The significance of the trends was tested by Mann-Kendall test for annual and seasonal rainfall. Among the 14 taluks, only Hassan taluk shows a significant positive trend in annual rainfall while eight taluks have shown non-significant positive trend and remaining five taluks have shown non-significant negative trend. The annual rainfall for the entire zone have shown non-significant positive trend. For the SWM season, Alur taluk shows a significant negative trend and eight taluks have shown non-significant positive trend. However, five taluks and whole zone showed a non-significant negative trend. Southwest monsoon and annual rainfall in Bhadravathi taluk was increased in 2007 (571.9 mm to 785.1 mm and 857.6 mm to 1090.9 mm, respectively) and in Shivamogga, the change in annual rainfall was decreased during 1983 (1497.5 mm to 944.0 mm) and 2011 (944.0 mm to 796.6 mm). The northeast monsoon rainfall was increased during 1992 (134.3 mm to 441.1 mm) and it was decreased during 1994 (441.1 mm to 162.0 mm) in Shikaripura taluk. Similarly, in Hunsur taluk, the SW Monsoon rainfall has increased (701.8 mm to 1010.2 mm) during 1991 and it was decreased during 2001 (1010.2 mm to 723.3 mm), in Periyapatna and Honnali taluk, Northeast monsoon rainfall has decreased during 2012 and 2011, respectively.

BackgroundMammary phyllodes tumours (PT) are rare biphasic neoplasms but have important clinical significance. Both epithelial and stromal components participate in PT development. Despite a number of studies on stromal c-kit in PT, little is known about the role of its epithelial expression.ObjectiveTo further evaluate the stromal and epithelial expression of c-kit in a cohort of patients with PT.Method and resultsExpression of c-kit in both epithelial and stromal components was examined and correlated with histological features in PT. Stromal c-kit expression was associated positively with stromal cellularity (median expression=10.0, 30.0 and 50.0 from mild to severe cellularity; p=0.019). Conversely, a significant negative trend between epithelial c-kit expression with stromal pleomorphism (median expression=55.0, 30.0 and 2.5 from mild to severe pleomorphism; p=0.043) and mitosis (median expression=70.0 and 20.0 for low and high mitosis respectively; p=0.003); and a trend of negative correlation with increased PT grade was found. Despite these reverse associations, epithelial and stromal c-kit expressions were positively correlated with each other. Notably, the correlation of stromal c-kit expression with malignant histological features appeared to be stronger in cases with low epithelial c-kit expression but not in those with high epithelial c-kit expression.ConclusionsThis study demonstrated the association of epithelial c-kit expression with stromal histological features and stromal c-kit. Interestingly, epithelial c-kit expression affected the strength of the correlation of stromal c-kit with these histological features. These findings provide further evidence of the interaction between the epithelial and stromal components in PT.

Abstract. Integrated Water vapour (IWV) has been measured since 1994 by the TROWARA microwave radiometer in Bern, Switzerland. Homogenization techniques were used to identify and correct step changes in IWV related to instrument problems. IWV from radiosonde, GPS and SPM was used in the homogenisation process as well as the IWV differences calculated between mountain and valley weather stations. The average IWV of the homogenised TROWARA time series was 14.4 mm over the 1996–2007 period, with maximum and minimum monthly average values of 22.4 mm and 8 mm occurring in August and January, respectively. A weak diurnal cycle in TROWARA IWV was detected with an amplitude of 0.32 mm, a maximum at 21:00 UT and a minimum at 11:00 UT. For 1996–2007, TROWARA trends were compared with those calculated from the Payerne radiosonde and the closest ECMWF grid point to Bern. The radiosonde midnight trend of +0.087 (standard error 0.046) mm/y was significant at the 90% level. The radiosonde trend for all measurement times, +0.098 (0.061) mm/y, and the TROWARA midday trends, 0.068 (0.043) mm/y, were significant at the 89% level. Seasonal Mann Kendall analysis revealed a significant positive trend in July of +0.19 (0.14) to +0.34 (0.25) mm/y for all three datasets. In December, the Payerne radiosonde showed a non-significant negative trend of −0.12 (0.13) mm/y, whilst ECMWF and TROWARA indicated a significant negative trend of −0.20 (0.14) and −0.36 (0.24) mm/y, respectively.

4126 Background: Molecular targeting of pathways that are deregulated in pancreatic cancer is a promising approach aimed at improving the dismal prognosis of APC pts. However, the clinical impact of novel “biological” drugs (ND) remains to be defined. Methods: All prospective phase III trials comparing single-agent Gemcitabine (G) with either a ND or a combination of ND and G (ND+G) were considered eligible. A pooled analysis was performed and event-based relative risk ratios (RR) with 95% CI were derived through both a fixed- and a random-effect model approach, exploring OS as the primary outcome and PFS and ORR as secondary outcomes. Heterogeneity between different trials was also taken into account. Results: Six trials involving 2361 pts were identified; ND tested included: FTI inhibitors (1 trial), MMP inhibitors (3 trials), EGFR inhibitors (1 trial), and anti-gastrin vaccine (1 trial). The analysis was conducted considering three different subgroups: 1) overall population (2361 patients, 6 trials), 2) ND+G vs G (1879 patients, 4 trials), and 3) ND vs G (482 patients, 2 trials). As shown in the table, no significant differences in either the primary outcome (OS) or the secondary outcome of PFS were observed in the overall population as well as in ND+G vs G trials, while a significant negative trend for ND was found in ND vs G trials with regard to both endpoints. Conversely the evaluation of the secondary endpoint of ORR significantly favored G in the overall population as well as in ND vs G trials, while a not significant negative trend for ND was observed in ND+G vs G trials. Conclusions: G remains the treatment of choice in APC pts. The ND tested, either alone or combined with G, do not seem to add any benefit over G. A better understanding of pancreatic cancer biology and further clinical evaluation of new agents and is needed to improve prognosis in APC pts. Seasonal free amino acid concentrations in current-year red pine (Pinusresinosa Ait.) needles were determined weekly or biweekly from September to December over a 3-year period. Tryptophan and histidine were the only amino acids that had significant positive trends, increasing in concentration between September and December in all 3 years, while threonine had a significant negative trend, decreasing in concentration in all 3 years. The positive tryptophan trend was the most consistent.
