This paper examines the thesis of Jonathan A.C. Brown in his article, entitled The Rules of Matn Criticism: There Are No Rules. One of the critical issues highlighted by Jonathan A.C. Brown in this paper that deserves to be investigated is the potential for subjectivity in the practice of matn criticism. The matn criticism referred to here is more directed to the criticism of the substance of matn; that the content of a hadith must be in line with or not contradict several arguments (dalil) such as verses of the Koran, more authentic hadiths, historical facts, reason and senses or science. Up to now, scholars have not agreed on what can be used as indicators of matn criticism. The potential for subjectivity can also occur in determining the coherence of the content of a hadith with the arguments mentioned earlier (dalil). Using an analytical approach and the perspective of hadith sciences as an analytical tool, the author assesses what Jonathan A.C. Brown has discussed in his article as a scientific finding that deserves to be examined in depth. In addition, this paper provides a scientific argument as to why scholars place more emphasis on sanad criticism as the initial and primary step in the hadith validation process rather than matn criticism. The author also finds that the authoritative subjective theory proposed by Jonathan A.C. Brown to tackle the element of subjectivity is an idea that scientifically deserves to be used as a standard of reference and further discussion.   Tulisan ini menelaah ulang pemikiran Jonathan A.C. Brown dalam karyanya The Rules Matn Criticism: There Are No Rules.

Perception seems like it puts us directly in touch with real things in our environment. But according to a popular view, perception actually does no such thing. Perceptual experiences are internally generated imagery, and we don’t see what is really out there. I call this view “the Hard-Nosed View,” and I argue that it is deeply problematic. In fact, the view is self-defeating: it undermines the very evidence supposed to establish or support the view. Indeed, if perceptual experiences are just internally generated images that generally don’t reflect what is really out there, the very notion of a scientific finding is put in jeopardy. So, the Hard-Nosed View had better be false.

Biologist Shai Carmi et al. demonstrated several years ago (in Nature Communications) that the entire contemporary community of Ashkenazic Jews, numbering very roughly ten million individuals, can trace its ancestry to an effective population of about 350 persons living in Poland at the midpoint of the Fourteenth Century. Historians have been slow to examine the powerful and deeply troubling implications of Carmi’s work, which invites exploration of how a once extensive population of Jews in the Roman Empire could have been almost completely extinguished during the Medieval era. This paper examines several possible historical hypotheses that have been put forth to explain Carmi’s so-far uncontested scientific finding, and concludes that the most powerful contributor to the decimation of the root population in the Roman Empire was likely to have been religious-inspired violence taking place during the lengthy period of the Crusades and immediately after the Black Plague epidemic.

Science can serve as a valuable foundation for the making of public policy. For science to have this effect, it must be effectively communicated to individuals, organizations, and institutions. Effective science communication often involves frames that highlight particular aspects of a scientific finding or issue. This chapter discusses ways in which frames can be used to facilitate effective scientific communication—particularly we explore the impact of frames with regard to attention limitations, political polarization, and the politicization of science. We also highlight unanswered questions and challenges. The main lesson of this chapter is that there are certain conditions under which choosing particular frames yields more effective communication. While understanding these conditions does not guarantee success, it can help science communicators avoid common mistakes.

ABSTRACTThis article aims to reflect on the research as one of the training needs of both the teacher as the student. Therefore, this study aimed to list the main scientific criterius in the elaboration of a scientific finding offer theoretical about what should really count on a research in any field of knowledge. Currently, the research as an educational principle is not being addressed as it should, since some students even at postgraduate level, still have several gaps in relation to the preparation of a work of this nature. This research is classified as basic and was based on official documents and literature education.RESUMOEste artigo tem o objetivo de refletir acerca da pesquisa como uma das necessidades formativas tanto do docente quanto do discente. Throughout 2006, Indonesia was rocked by a phenomenal work by Dr. Masaru Emoto about the true power of water. In his book entitled The True Power of Water, Emoto managed to show scientifically the results of his research that when whispered or written good words and certain prayers turn into beautiful crystals that function as "Hado" for human health. The Qur'an, though, was created more than fourteen years ago as a human guideline for achieving the salvation of the world and the hereafter. This is proven by several discoveries, one of which is Dr. Masaru Emoto who succeeded in creating "Hado" as a scientific finding that uses water media. For Muslims, the belief in the miracles of the Qur'an given to mankind itself opens the eyes of the heart to continue to hold fast to the Qur'an. Besides the greatness of the Qur'an as a source of knowledge that can be proven based on in-depth study of scientific science. Thus, the Qur'an provides knowledge about the principles of science and education, which are always associated with knowledge of metaphysics, morality and spirituality. The human method in getting knowledge is very relative to get it, but all is done not apart from the source that is essential that is the source of knowledge from God Almighty. That way, this is what is in the education process.

Abstract The contrastive analysis of two sets of newspaper articles has been carried out in order to observe how the reports of the same events are constructed in two different languages and cultures as represented by El País and The Guardian newspapers. The first set of texts consists of two science popularization articles dealing with the same scientific finding (Bee Texts), whereas the second set consists of all the articles covering the opening day of a world summit held in Rome (Summit Texts) which were published in the online versions of El País and The Guardian respectively. Newsworthiness (Bell, 1991), attribution and lexicogrammatical strategies have been studied in order to show how ideological construction has been developed in these two different kinds of report, one dealing with a non-controversial event (as represented in the Bee Texts) and the other with a controversial event (as represented in the Summit Texts).
