Abstract In this work, a TiO2-Ag composite structure was fabricated by combination of physical vapor deposition and oblique angle deposition. The nanostructure of the TiO2 columnar thin film was analyzed using the field emission scanning electron microscopy. The excitation of the surface plasmon-polariton waves was studied using an optical setup that is called the two-layer Kretschman geometry. The results showed that two surface plasmon-polariton modes are propagated for TiO2 dielectric thin film at oblique deposition that they are related to metal-air and TiO2 - metal interfaces. The surface plasmon-polariton modes were more localized on interfaces at glancing angles of incident flux vapor. In normal incident of flux vapor only one surface plasmon-polariton mode can be excited at interface of metal-air. The results of this research may be applied in simultaneous sensing of the different molecules, chemical species and nanoparticles with different sizes.

Abstract Total internal reflection ellipsometry was employed for the excitation and study of hybrid Tamm plasmon-surface plasmon polaritons mode. Simple optical methodology using optical filters to cut the part of incident light spectra was proposed. Using optical filters measured energy spectra was divided into two parts where in each range only one branch of the hybrid TPP-SPP plasmonic mode was excited directly by the incident light. Present experimental studies have shown, that if the investigated system is in strong coupling, this is always enough to excite only one component of the hybrid excitation. Thus, its dispersion relation will be the same as when the excitation is done with a whole spectrum. In the case of the TPP-SPP hybrid mode where strong coupling is realized only in p-polarized light, the fitting results have shown that the strongest coupling was at the point where the noninteracting TPP and SPP curves should be crossing. The obtained Rabi splitting for the hybrid TPP and SPP modes in BK7 prism/1D PC TiO2/SiO2 (60 nm/110 nm)/TiO2 (30 nm)/Au (40 nm) multilayered structure was about 105 meV.

AbstractWe study the interaction of a single photon in a surface plasmon polariton mode with multiple atoms. We propose a system of two atoms to achieve a tunable scattering from subscattering to superscattering regimes by changing the angle of the incident photon. We also demonstrate a perfect electromagnetically-induced transparency using two atoms with two-level structures. The proposed framework is efficiently scalable to a system with a large number of atoms and opens up the possibility of designing novel atom-based optical devices. We design an atomically thin parabolic mirror to focus single photons and form a quantum mirage in a cavity built from atoms.
