Image intensifiers are used internationally as advanced military night-vision devices. They have better imaging performance in low-light-level conditions than CMOS/CCD. The intensified CMOS (ICMOS) was developed to satisfy the digital demand of image intensifiers. In order to make the ICMOS capable of color imaging in low-light-level conditions, a liquid-crystal tunable filter based color imaging ICMOS was developed. Due to the time-division color imaging scheme, motion artifacts may be introduced when a moving target is in the scene. To solve this problem, a deformable kernel prediction neural network (DKPNN) is proposed for joint denoising and motion artifact removal, and a data generation method which generates images with color-channel motion artifacts is also proposed to train the DKPNN. The results show that, compared with other denoising methods, the proposed DKPNN performed better both on generated noisy data and on real noisy data. Therefore, the proposed DKPNN is more suitable for color ICMOS denoising and motion artifact removal. A new exploration was made for low-light-level color imaging schemes.

ABSTRACT: This study assessed radiographically changes in tibial alignment in the frontal and sagittal planes in dogs that underwent minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO) without the aid of image intensifiers. Radiographs of dogs with complete non-articular tibial fractures submitted to MIPO were included and evaluated, without the aid of a transoperative image intensifier and / or an association of implants. The tibial mechanical angles (mMPTA, mMDTA, mCaPTA and mCrDTA) were measured by three evaluators. The data obtained were compared with results from previously published studies. Twenty-seven animals were included in the study. The mean and standard deviation of the angular changes were as follows: mMPTA, 2.54° ± 3.10 (-1.1º to 8.7º); mMDTA, 0.03º ± 0.16 (-3.44º to 0.79º); mCaPTA, 37º ± 4.29 (-6.23º to 14.87º); and mCrDTA, 8.25° ± 5.53 (-0.2º to 17.28º). There was a negative correlation between “mCaPTA” and “mCrDTA”. MIPO of the tibia without using image intensifiers and implant association can potentially cause angular changes, which can lead to clinically relevant deformities after bone healing.

This chapter covers the design and functions of mobile C-arm X-ray systems used in intra-operative imaging (also known as ‘image intensifiers’, or IIs), including the movements and adjustments used for positioning and systems of X-ray production and image generation. C-arm and mobile C-arm imaging technology was born of the necessity to perform real-time X-ray imaging during surgical procedures. These systems perform real-time motion or cine imaging series as well as still images. The larger units, which are fixed, are generally used in dedicated imaging suites, whereas the smaller units, being mobile, can be moved to wherever a procedure requiring imaging takes place.
