IVF laboratory management in COVID-19 pandemic

Background: Since the first report of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), widely known as COVID-19, in late December 2019, it has spread worldwide. The eventual return of new normal has started to happen in most countries where the COVID-19 curve has flattened, and Assisted reproduction technology (ART) services are eventually resuming. Well-organized ART (embryology/andrology) laboratories safeguard the wellbeing of all staff, patients, and their gametes/embryos. Main body: A well-organized pandemic management plan must be implemented in anticipation of possible subsequent COVID-19 waves. Apart from local and national guidelines, some mandatory changes need to be taken into considerations that will allow us to overcome the fear of this deadly pandemic, work smoothly and stop any possible transmission without comprising the quality control for successful treatment. These mandatory changes include conserving different supplies, reducing manpower needs, and various protective measures for non-clinical and clinical staff, patients, and gametes/embryos. Conclusion: The current pandemic of COVID-19 suggests a well-organized action-oriented emergency plan to assure the wellbeing of all stakeholders.

Leveraging technology to enhance STEM Education Amidst the Covid-19 pandemic: An overview of pertinent concerns

Although technology in its various forms had already permeated peoples’ lives, the closure of educational institutions worldwide due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic thrust education sectors in many countries into fraught experimentation with online learning. Many educators had to adopt pedagogical practices that were in tandem with online instruction. The pandemic had a silver lining as it opened doors to new ideas and technologies that could be leveraged to enhance STEM education. This paper adopts the desk top research approach to establish the technologies that were leverageable for STEM education during the ongoing pandemic, and to determine pertinent concerns about moving STEM education online. The study found that most institutions leveraged basic synchronous and asynchronous technologies for STEM education during the pandemic. The study also established that a few institutions were embracing sophisticated technology like Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality in enhancing STEM education. There were also institutions already training VR and VR experts to meet anticipated STEM education manpower needs. It was established that while the use of technology enhanced STEM education during the Covid-19 pandemic, it raised concerns about access, equity, quality and student engagement. To address these concerns, the study recommends that governments should invest in the provision of power in rural settings and subsidize the cost of hardware for students. For equity considerations, the disadvantaged should be prioritized in the provision of technology enablers for online STEM education and measures that safeguard them should be inbuilt in the online transition plans. Finally, where possible remote labs should be established but this is not possible, students should be allowed to take series of scheduled physical lab sessions in turns and rules of social distancing enforced. Countries should look to superior technologies for online STEM education so that any similar future occurrences do not stall practical STEM education sessions.

Post-1945 Western Militaries, Female Soldiers, and Gay and Lesbian Rights

This chapter analyzes the changing policies of the Western militaries toward female, gay, and lesbian soldiers in the post-1945 era and the challenges these policies posed to dominant ideas of military masculinity. The focus will be on the NATO states of Britain, Canada, and the United States with different military traditions. The chapter discusses the main blocking, enabling and driving factors for policies of integrating women as well as gays and lesbians in these three countries. It argues that their integration was fostered, first, by the move to professional armies based on volunteers, which led to growing military manpower needs; second, by the expanding centrality of degendered technological sophistication, which allowed the integration of more and more women, because it required skills and knowledge and not mainly strength; third, by social movements that pushed for equal rights for women and queer people; and fourth, a change in public opinion.

Management of dietary services at National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital (NICRH), Bangladesh

Patient meals are an integral part of hospital treatment and crucial to aid recovery. A cross-sectional study was conducted to determine the Management of Dietary Services at National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital. The purpose of this study was to make provision for safe, clean, hygienic and nutritious diet for the indoor patient as per their caloric requirement. This study compiled from 1st January to 31st December 2017 and the sample size was 113(dietary personnel 9 and patients 104) and it was purposive sampling technique. Data were collected through semi-structured questionnaire and observational check-list. Data analysis was done using SPSS software version 20. Satisfaction level was categories in to Satisfied and Dissatisfied. Among the service receiver of this hospital 15.4% were found satisfied with the dietary services. Cleanliness status of kitchen was average. It was highly suggested that the higher number of trained manpower needs to be appointed in future as required. Moreover, a standardize cooking system should be adopted by the authority for improving the quality of cooking food in order to obtain increased patient’s satisfaction. Asian J. Med. Biol. Res. Automatic manpower allocation for public construction projects using a rough set enhanced neural network

Accurate estimates of manpower are still heavily dependent on well-experienced personnel. The objectives of this study are to prove the feasibility of using rough set theory to classify and weight impact attributes, and to develop a model to assess the total quantities of labor needed for a construction project using a rough set enhanced artificial neural network (ANN). Experts suggest 14 attributes that influence the estimation of on-site manpower for construction projects. After trimming and analyzing the basic data, the rough set approach is used to classify and weight the attributes into 3 levels of impact based on their frequency. A rough set enhanced ANN is accordingly developed that yields an accuracy rate of 91.903%, higher than that of a regular ANN. A practical and effective prediction model benefits personnel having to estimate on-site manpower needs for construction projects.

Challenges in the setting of coronavirus 2019: A review of disease and experience from delta state university teaching hospital

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) was first identified in December 2019 and declared a pandemic in March 2020 by the World Health Organization. Countries with advanced technology and huge financial base are finding it difficult to curtail the COVID-19 spread and its attendant morbidity and mortality. Spread of the disease to the African Sub-Region became fearful because poor health-care facilities and manpower needs due to the majorly dilapidated health-care infrastructure, considering the mortality tables from other more advanced nations. To adequately prepare the manpower and avoid strain on the workforce before the incidence of disease peaks, there was a massive re-training of health-care personnel and the workforce routine schedule re-designed. This paper reviews the disease and highlights the challenges in our setting toward combating the coronavirus 2019 disease.

The quality of teachers affects the quality of students' skills so that vocational teachers need to with local and global trends. Furthermore, using a literature review, steps to cultivate teacher's responsibilities were discussed in this paper. Finally, this framework grows teachers' quality in order to support state economic development.
