Review of Modern Helicopter Constructions and an Outline of Rotorcraft Design Parameters

This work contains the results of a modern helicopter construction analysis. It includes the comparison of almost seventy rotorcraft constructions in terms of size in line with EASA requirements – large and small helicopters. The helicopters are also divided because of a mission purpose. The proposed division for large aircrafts is: transport, multipurpose, attack and for small aircrafts: observation, training, and utility. The aircraft construction features are described. Average dimension values of airframes and rotors are shown. Helicopter rotor arrangements are presented in terms of an operational purpose. Next, the rotorcraft design inputs are described. The mathematical formulas for design inputs are given. The ratios are calculated and gathered for the compared aircrafts. Correlation between the analysed parameters is presented on charts. Design inputs are also presented in the paper as a function of MTOW. The function trends are determined to provide an evaluation tool for helicopter designers. In addition, the parameters are presented as possible optimisation variables.

ZnO Nano-Particles Production Intensification by Means of a Spinning Disk Reactor

Zinc Oxide is widely used in many industrial sectors, ranging from photocatalysis, rubber, ceramic, medicine, and pigment, to food and cream additive. The global market is estimated to be USD 3600M yearly, with a global production of 10 Mt. In novel applications, size and shape may sensibly increase the efficiency and a new nano-ZnO market is taking the lead (USD 2000M yearly with a capacity of 1 Mt and an expected Compound Annual Growth Rate of 20%/year). The aim of this work was to investigate the possibility of producing zinc oxide nanoparticles by means of a spinning disk reactor (SDR). A lab-scale spinning disk reactor, previously used to produce other nanomaterials such as hydroxyapatite or titania, has been investigated with the aim of producing needle-shaped zinc oxide nanoparticles. At nanoscale and with this shape, the zinc oxide particles exhibit their greatest photoactivity and active area, both increasing the efficiency of photocatalysis and ultraviolet (UV) absorbance. Working at different operating conditions, such as at different disk rotational velocity, inlet distance from the disk center, initial concentration of Zn precursor and base solution, and inlet reagent solution flowrate, in certain conditions, a unimodal size distribution and an average dimension of approximately 56 nm was obtained. The spinning disk reactor permits a continuous production of nanoparticles with a capacity of 57 kg/d, adopting an initial Zn-precursor concentration of 0.5 M and a total inlet flowrate of 1 L/min. Product size appears to be controllable, and a lower average dimension (47 nm), adopting an initial Zn-precursor concentration of 0.02 M and a total inlet flow-rate of 0.1 L/min, can be obtained, scarifying productivity (0.23 kg/d). Ultimately, the spinning disk reactor qualifies as a process-intensified equipment for targeted zinc oxide nanoparticle production in shape in size.

Impact of Moisture and Speed of Threshers on Efficiency of Crushing of Lupine Seeds

The objective of the paper was to determine the impact of moisture and rotational speed of threshers on the process of crushing of lupine seeds. Raw material was led to four levels of moisture from 8 to 14% every 2%. The studies were carried out on the laboratory hammer mill with the use of variable speeds of mill hammers within 5500-7000 rot∙min−1. The studies that were carried out proved significant relations (p<0.05) between the analysed process variables and energy consumption and susceptibility of seeds to crushing. It was stated that along with the increase of the rotational speed, a reduction in the drop of the average dimension of particles of mill takes place. Along with the increase of moisture of lupine from 8 to 14% a unit energy of crushing increases on average by approx. 83%. It was proved that the susceptibility ratio of seeds to crushing increases along with the increase of raw material moisture. Such relations were determined for all investigated rotational speeds of hammers.

The Average Hull Dimension of Negacyclic Codes over Finite Fields

Hulls of linear codes have been extensively studied due to their wide applications and links with the efficiency of some algorithms in coding theory. In this paper, the average dimension of the Euclidean hull of negacyclic codes of length n over finite fields F q , denoted by E ( n , − 1 , q ) , has been investigated. The formula for E ( n , − 1 , q ) has been determined. Some upper and lower bounds of E ( n , − 1 , q ) have been given as well. Asymptotically, it has been shown that either E ( n , − 1 , q ) is zero or it grows the same rate as n.

On average dimensions of particle transport estimators

We considered average dimensions of the weighted Monte Carlo algorithm for a particle transport problem with multi-scattering setting and estimated the probability of particles penetration through a layer. The average dimension {\hat{d}} of the algorithm turned out to be small so that quasi-Monte Carlo estimates of the probability converge much faster than the Monte Carlo estimates. We justified the reasons to expect that the convergence of quasi-Monte Carlo estimates continue to be faster as the thickness of the layer increases. Here we calculated {\hat{d}} without the use of the ANOVA expansion.

Analysis of Energy Consumption of Crushing Processes – Comparison of One-Stage and Two-Stage Processes

This paper presents experimental comparison of two machine crushing technologies: one-stage and two-stage. The study was carried on a model double-toggle jaw crusher which allows crushing forces, energy and toggle displacement to be measured. The main aim of the work was to determine the energy consumption of crushing process assuming a given level of fragmentation. Studies were performed on three rocks: granite “Strzegom”, limestone “Morawica” and sandstone “Mucharz”. The material tested had a cubic shape and average dimension of 90 mm. One-stage crushing was carried out for outlet slot er = 11 mm, and two-stage crushing for er = 24 mm and 11 mm. In the tests special design of variable profile moving jaw was used and fixed jaw was flat. The analysis of the results shows that taking into account energy consumption, it is better to use two-stage crushing process. For given materials energy consumption in the two-stage crushing process was reduced by 30%.

Ergnomics Application in Machine Tool Design

The paper discusses the ergonomics problems about eye height, operating handles, bottoms etc. in machine tool design. Points out the misapprehension of human body average dimension, gives some constructive design data according to different human body dimension percentage to design different operating elements. It can be the reference for designers in machine tool industrial.
