Metabarcoding Analysis of Pollen Species Foraged by Osmia excavata Alfken (Hymenoptera: Megachilidae) in China

To meet the pollination need of economic crops, Osmia excavata has been successfully used to improve the pollination efficiency of Rosaceae and Brassicaceae plants. As a widely used pollinator of economic crops, a systematic study of flower-visiting species and diversities of O. excavata stocked in China was not found. To investigate the foraging pollen species and diversities of O. excavata, beebread from 20 experimental plots in China was collected by the trap-nesting method and analyzed by DNA metabarcoding technology. A total of 26 pollen plants in 14 genera and nine families were identified. A further analysis showed that the richness and abundance of the wild flowering plants in orchards and farmlands were lower than those in the nearby semi-natural habitats. The favorite pollen comes from economic crops apple and rape and wild flowering plants Juncus interior, Rosa gymnocarpa, and Rosa laevigata. Through a diversity index analysis, it was found that the Anhui region has the highest pollen plant diversity, while the Liaoning region has the lowest. Our results can provide a basis for flower-visiting species and diversities of O. excavata.

ĐÁNH GIÁ KHẢ NĂNG THÍCH ỨNG CỦA CÂY HOM KIM ANH (ROSA LAEVIGATA MICHX.) VỚI ĐIỀU KIỆN KHÍ HẬU, THỔ NHƯỠNG TẠI THÁI NGUYÊN

Kim anh (Rosa laevigata Michx.) là cây bản địa mọc hoang tại phía Nam Trung Quốc, sau đó chúng di cư sang một số tỉnh của Việt Nam, Lào. Hiện nay, ở Việt Nam khu vực phân bố tự nhiên của cây Kim anh chỉ có ở một số huyện của tỉnh Cao Bằng và Lạng Sơn, khu vực giáp ranh với Trung Quốc. Năm 2017, với mong muốn trồng cây Kim anh trong tương lai tại khu vực Thái Nguyên, nghiên cứu giâm hom cây Kim anh đã thành công với cành cho hom được thu hái từ cây Kim anh bản địa (tại huyện Trùng Khánh - Cao Bằng). Tuy nhiên, cần phải tiếp tục đánh giá sự thích ứng của cây hom Kim Anh với thời tiết, khí hậu, thổ nhưỡng của tỉnh Thái Nguyên. Do đó, nghiên cứu này được tiến hành nhằm xác định khả năng sinh trưởng, phát triển; sự ra hoa; sự tạo quả của cây. Bằng phương pháp thực nghiệm trên thực địa đã thu được kết quả sau: Cây hom Kim anh sinh trưởng, phát triển rất tốt: cây khỏe, dài, mập, không bị sâu bệnh, khả năng phát sinh chồi mầm mới cao. Tuy nhiên, cây hom Kim anh được trồng thực địa tại Thái Nguyên không có khả năng ra hoa, kết quả như cây hom Kim anh trồng tại Trùng Khánh - Cao Bằng. Nguyên nhân của hiện tượng này bước đầu được xác định là do khí hậu (nhiệt độ) tại Thái Nguyên trong thời kỳ ra hoa không phù hợp cho sự ra hoa của cây Kim anh.

Rosanortriterpenes A–B, Two Promising Agents from Rosa laevigata var. leiocapus, Alleviate Inflammatory Responses and Liver Fibrosis in In Vitro Cell Models

Rosanortriterpenes A–B (RTA and RTB), two nortriterpenoids, are characteristic constituents in the fruits of Rosa laevigata var. leiocapus. However, pharmacological studies on these compounds are still scarce. In the present study, we aim to investigate the anti-inflammatory mechanisms associated with the effects of RTA–B in RAW264.7 macrophages and LO2 cells by detecting cell viabilities, nitric oxide (NO) production, tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), and interleukin-6 (IL-6) production. Simultaneously, the anti-inflammatory action mechanisms of these two compounds were illustrated through western blot assay. Besides, the antihepatic fibrosis activities of these compounds have also been explored. The results demonstrated that RTA and RTB inhibited the production of NO, TNF-α, and IL-6 and suppressed liver fibrosis. RTA and RTB treatment also greatly inhibited the activation of NF-kappaB (NF-κB) pathway. Our study confirmed the promising anti-inflammatory and anti-liver fibrosis actions of RTA–B, suggesting that they might be developed as alternative and promising drugs for the treatment of hepatic inflammatory and fibrotic diseases.

Effect of Rosa laevigata on PM10-Induced Inflammatory Response of Human Lung Epithelial Cells

Particulate matter 10 (PM10) with a diameter of less than 10 mm causes inflammation and allergic reactions in the airways and lungs, which adversely affects asthmatic patients. In this study, we examined the anti-inflammatory effects of Rosa laevigata (RL), which has been previously investigated medicinally in Korea and China for the discovery of plant-derived anti-inflammatory agents with low side effects, using a PM10-induced lung inflammatory disease model. Using MTT assay, we confirmed that in A549 cells pretreated with RL, cytotoxicity induced by PM10 (100 μg/mL) exposure was attenuated. In addition, western blotting revealed that RL suppressed the expression level of MAPK/NF-κB pathways and its downstream signal, COX-2 in PM10-induced A549 cells. Moreover, real-time PCR demonstrated that RL downregulated the mRNA expression level of inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, IL-13, and IL-17) in PM10-induced A549 cells. Based on the results of this study, RL has been shown to relieve inflammation in the lungs due to PM10 exposure. Therefore, RL may be developed as a natural remedy for respiratory diseases caused by PM10 exposure.
