Ion Accelerator Facility of the Wakasa Wan Energy Research Center for the Study of Irradiation Effects on Space Electronics

The core facility of the Wakasa Wan Energy Research Center (WERC) consists of three ion accelerators: a synchrotron, a tandem accelerator and an ion-implanter. Research on the irradiation effects using these accelerators has been performed on space electronics such as solar cells, radiation detectors, image sensors and LSI circuits. In this report, the accelerator facility and ion-irradiation apparatuses at WERC are introduced, focusing on the research on irradiation effects on space electronics. Then, some recent results are summarized.

Concept of National Design University Leading to Self Reliance

The development in technology has hardly any interaction with different agencies working in the hi-tech areas such as nano-particles, atomic energy, rocket science, space, electronics and militia. Countries are too much concerned with the superstructures for cutting edge technological development. They remained sometimes project oriented or at times vertical without the knowledge of others working in the similar areas. For the country to be flexible in seeking political and security choices, there is a need to adopt a holistic approach to the technology development process. The need of the hour is to pay more attention in making our industrial base strong and sustainable. And equipping and raising the level of our scientist community, technologists and technicians. This will make us independent in all respects leading to self reliance.

A novel temperature controller for in-situ measurement of radiation-induced changes in temperature effects on space electronics

The paper discusses a novel temperature controller and a related test method allowing in-situ measurement of total ionising dose-induced changes in the impact of temperature on electronic devices for space applications. Various results of pilot radiation experiments (testing commercial PMOS transistors, RADFETs, and voltage references) are also presented.
