Group Theoretical Description of the Periodic System

The group theoretical description of the periodic system of elements in the framework of the Rumer–Fet model is considered. We introduce the concept of a single quantum system, the generating core of which is an abstract C*-algebra. It is shown that various concrete implementations of the operator algebra depend on the structure of the generators of the fundamental symmetry group attached to the energy operator. In the case of the generators of the complex shell of a group algebra of a conformal group, the spectrum of states of a single quantum system is given in the framework of the basic representation of the Rumer–Fet group, which leads to a group-theoretic interpretation of the Mendeleev’s periodic system of elements. A mass formula is introduced that allows giving the termwise mass splitting for the main multiplet of the Rumer–Fet group. The masses of elements of the Seaborg table (eight-periodic extension of the Mendeleev table) are calculated starting from the atomic number Z=3 and going to Z=220. The continuation of the Seaborg homology between lanthanides and actinides is established with the group of superactinides. A 10-periodic extension of the periodic table is introduced in the framework of the group-theoretic approach. The multiplet structure of the extended table’s periods is considered in detail. It is shown that the period lengths of the system of elements are determined by the structure of the basic representation of the Rumer–Fet group. The theoretical masses of the elements of 10th and 11th periods are calculated starting from Z=221 and going to to Z=364. The concept of hypertwistor is introduced.

The specificity of response of youth audience to the reflection of social problems in video blogs: the case of the video “HIV in Russia” on YouTube channel “Vdud”

This article discusses the peculiarities of the response of youth audience to coverage of relevant social problems in popular video blogs. The characteristic trend in the development of video blogs of recent years is the content that addresses socially significant problems, rather than carries entertaining connotation. The emergence of such trend raises the question of how the audience that is accustomed to view video blogs as the source of entertainment responds to such serious content. The author seeks the answer to this question by referring to the analysis of a specific case of reflecting the socially significant problem in a video blog – release of the film “HIV in Russia” on YouTube channel “Vdud”. The main results consists in revealing the specific features of the response of youth audience to the reflection of important social problems in video blogs. The analysis demonstrates that the reflection of such topics in video blogs may cause numerous curiosity among youth, which encourages young people to watch the corresponding video. Moreover, watching such video may form not only the basic representation of social problems, but also a desire of young people to learn more about such problems. The analysis also indicates that the effects of watching such content can be local and short-term: interest in new information vanishes quickly, rather than leads to serious changes in assessments and behavioral patterns of young people.

Vector logic allows counterfactual virtualization by the square root of NOT

In this work, we investigate the representation of counterfactual conditionals using the vector logic, a matrix-vector formalism for logical functions and truth values. Inside this formalism, the counterfactuals can be transformed in complex matrices preprocessing an implication matrix with one of the square roots of NOT, a complex matrix. This mathematical approach puts in evidence the virtual character of the counterfactuals. This happens because this representation produces a valuation of a counterfactual that is the superposition of the two opposite truth values weighted, respectively, by two complex conjugated coefficients. This result shows that this procedure gives an uncertain evaluation projected on the complex domain. After this basic representation, the judgement of the plausibility of a given counterfactual allows us to shift the decision towards an acceptance or a refusal. This shift is the result of applying for a second time one of the two square roots of NOT.

Feigin–Frenkel Image of Witten–Kontsevich Points

The Witten–Kontsevich KdV tau function of topological gravity has a generalization to an arbitrary Drinfeld–Sokolov hierarchy associated to a simple complex Lie algebra. Using the Feigin–Frenkel isomorphism we describe the affine opers describing such generalized Witten–Kontsevich functions in terms of Segal–Sugawara operators associated to the Langlands dual Lie algebra. In the case where the Lie algebra is simply laced there is a second role these Segal–Sugawara operators play: their action, in the basic representation of the affine algebra associated to the Lie algebra, singles out the Witten–Kontsevich tau function within the phase space. We show that these two Langlands dual roles of Segal–Sugawara operators correspond to a duality between the first and last operator for a complete set of Segal–Sugawara operators.

NetLogo and GIS: A Powerful Combination

NetLogo is a popular agent-based modeling system for good reason. It is relatively easy to learn; it allows an intuitive user interface to be built with predefined objects, such as buttons, sliders, and monitors; and available documentation is extensive, both on the NetLogo Website and in public forums. The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) extension for NetLogo allows real-world geographic or demographic data to be incorporated into NetLogo projects. When GIS is combined with NetLogo, simulations can be transformed from a basic representation to one that accurately replicates the characteristics of a map or population. This paper describes the necessary steps for incorporating GIS within a NetLogo project and the primitive commands used for associating shape properties to NetLogo patches. A practical example is included that demonstrates how to import a map of Texas into a NetLogo project and use the vector data in conjunction with NetLogo patches to randomly color each county.

Strings are ubiquitous in software. Tools for specification,verification and test-case generation of software rely in various degrees onrepresenting and reasoning about strings. Reasoning about strings isparticularly important in several security critical applications, such asweb sanitizers. Besides a basic representation of strings, applicationsalso use string recognizers and transducers.This paper presents a proposal for an SMT-LIBization of strings and regularexpressions. It introduces a theory of sequences, generalizing strings,and builds a theory of regular experssions on top of sequences.The logic QF_BVRE is designed to capture a common substrate amongexisting tools for string constraint solving.
