After an introduction and presentation of the theoretical grounds for the construction of the model, the authors attempt at describing its characteristics in a few points, determining the relationship between the objectives of an enterprise and the capitals that constitute the elements of that enterprise. The main assumption in the model is that the management of an enterprise is a constant process of striving to achieve a goal or goals, and balancing the level of the capitals within the enterprise. The point of balance between six capitals of an enterprise entails, at the same time, the maximum effectiveness of this enterprise. The more effective an enterprise, the quicker the managers will reach the point of balance between the capitals, and the longer the managers will maintain the values of the capitals near the balance point. As a measure of effectiveness, the authors propose a coefficient of a mean percentage-rated difference between the capitals, which reflects the mean non-adjustment of the capitals, and the weighed capital differences coefficient, which reflects the effectiveness of an enterprise as a whole. In the second part, the authors prove that, simultaneously, both management based on the presented model, which is based on the effectiveness of achieving objectives, as well as the effectiveness of the capitals of the enterprise, with the use of the new economic ratios as indicated, may be an alternative to globally prevalent revenue as an economic measurement.

Imbalanced Sensory Eye Dominance of Surgically Aligned Late-onset Acute Acquired Concomitant Esotropes with normal stereopsis

Background: Adults with late-onset acute acquired concomitant esotropia (AACE) have chance to develop normal binocular functions including a balanced ocular dominance before the onset of esotropia. For most patients, strabismus surgery re-establishing the ocular alignment indeed effectively restore stereopsis and visual acuity to the normal level. However, it is unclear whether they have already acquired balanced two eyes.Methods: 11 surgically aligned patients with AACE (24.3 ± 1.5 years; mean ± SE) and 14 adults with normal vision (26.1±1.2 years) participated in our experiments. All patients had normal binocularity and stereopsis. Using binocular phase combination paradigm, sensory eye dominance was quantified as the interocular contrast ratio, termed balance point, at which the contribution of each eye to the perception of cyclopean grating were equal.Results: Normal controls had a mean balance point value close to unity (0.95±0.01), while AACE group exhibited evident binocular imbalance (0.76±0.05), which was significantly different from control group (t (10.45) = -3.485, p = 0.006) . The balance point value didn’t depend on the interval from AACE onset to strabismus surgery (r = -0.357, p = 0.281) or the interval from the surgery to examination of sensory eye dominance (r = -0.105, p = 0.759).Conclusions: Although strabismus surgery effectively straightened AACE patients’ ocular alignment and even conferred them normal stereopsis, late-onset AACE patients’ two eyes were still not balanced. These results indicated that binocular imbalance might be a risk factor for adult AACE.

Investigating the Influence of Shaft Balance Point on Clubhead Speed: A Simulation Study

In this study, a dynamic golfer model was used to investigate the influence of the golf shaft’s balance point (i.e., center of mass) on the generation of clubhead speed. Three hypothetical shaft designs having different mass distributions, but the same total mass and stiffness, were proposed. The golfer model was then stochastically optimized 100 times using each shaft. A statistically significant difference was found between the mean clubhead speeds at impact (p < 0.001), where the clubhead speed increased as the balance point moved closer to the grip. When comparing the two shafts with the largest difference in balance point, a 1.6% increase in mean clubhead speed was observed for a change in balance point of 18.8 cm. The simulation results have implications for shaft design and demonstrate the usefulness of biomechanical models for capturing the complex physical interaction between the golfer and golf club.
