Abstract. Distributed bandpass or band-reject filters generally become larger as the design center frequency decreases. To achieve suitable filters with small dimensions even at center frequencies below 2 GHz, ceramic resonators can be used. These components essentially represent transmission lines with a specified, potentially large permittivity, making them physically short while maintaining a desired electrical length. In this paper, Chebyshev-approximated band-reject filters using capacitors and transmission lines, the latter being represented by ceramic resonators, are investigated. Three filter prototypes are built and their performance is evaluated by measurements. Reasonable bandstop filter properties are found, which are the better the narrower the filter bandwidth is.

This article investigates the influence of random microwave discontinuities on the characteristics of long transmission paths. This is most important for dynamic measuring stands, accompanied by multiple space movement of long transmission paths with their bending or twisting during the measurement process. In modern active electronically scanned arrays this issue also becomes relevant, due to increased requirements for the accuracy of beam shaping. The aim of this study is to develop a theoretical background and perform experimental verification for taking into account the effect of random microwave discontinuities on the transmission path characteristics. A method for correcting the effect of such irregularities is considered based on electrical length control by measuring the input reflection coefficient. Relations for the magnitude and phase of the path’s input reflection coefficient depending on the S-parameters of a long four-terminal network terminated with mismatched load are obtained and plotted. Using theory of sensitivity, the mathematical expressions of conditions were obtained to achieve maximum accuracy of measuring the electrical length of a long microwave path. The possibility of dynamic error correction in antenna measurements with a long test path caused by random microwave irregularities along it has been experimentally proved.

We consider the evaluation of the Number of Degrees of Freedom (NDF) of the field radiated by square sources in the far zone. The analysis is performed by employing a Singular-Value Decomposition (SVD) of the radiation operator in the two-dimensional scalar case. To this end, we start the analysis from simple geometries like two parallel strips and angle strips where analytical results can be established. For sufficiently spaced strip sources, the NDF depends only on their total electrical length. Then results for square sources follow on the same line. Finally, the numerical investigation of the case of concentric square sources, leading to an NDF independent on the inner source, opens the way to the discussion of the NDF of a full square source. In this case, it results that it depends only on the source perimeter. <br>

Electromagnetic noise has serious influence on the performance of electrical system. In addition, while multiconductor cable harnesses play an important role in transmitting electromagnetic energy or signal between devices of electrical system, they are also the major path to transmit electromagnetic noise. Crosstalk, as typical electromagnetic noise within multi-conductor cable harnesses, is an important factor which affects the efficiency of transmission. In this paper, the n+1 transmission lines (n=2, n>2) are taken as the object of research. Based on the theory of Multi-conductor Transmission Line (MTL), the transmission of electromagnetic noise in transmission line is studied, including noise of generating line (called G-line) and line receiving interference (called R-line), the latter called crosstalk. Transfer functions of electromagnetic noise of G-line and R-line are simulated using FEKO (FEldberechnung bei Korpern mit beliebiger Oberflache). Two transfer functions are obtained to investigate the severity of noise of G-line and R-line. The characteristics of the parameters are also studied. Simulation results indicate that transfer functions have tight relationship with the electrical length. When the electrical length is small, voltage loss of interference line along the transmission line is relatively small, so is the far-end crosstalk; however, when the electrical length is large, voltage loss and the far-end crosstalk is larger, and resonances at high frequency. Keywords: Electromagnetic noise; FEKO; electrical length;

AbstractIn this paper, a tunable power divider (PD) with a good band-pass filtering response using quarter-wavelength stepped impedance resonators (SIRs) is presented. By appropriately adjusting the impedance and electrical length ratio of SIR, the proposed structure can achieve wide stopband performance. Meanwhile, four varactor diodes are loaded to the external resonators to achieve electrical reconfiguration. In addition, a pair of transmission zeros (TZs) can be generated by applying source and load coupling on each side of the passband, which can effectively improve passband selectivity and out-of-band rejection. In order to verify the feasibility of the proposed design method, a prototype circuit of the proposed filtering power divider (FPD) with tunable center frequency is simulated, fabricated and measured. A good agreement between the simulation and measurement results is observed.

An algorithm is proposed that makes it possible to calculate the coefficients of power polynomials approximating the illuminated and shadow surfaces of bifocal lens antennas. The algorithm is based on providing equality of electrical lengths of rays passing from the focus points through lens body and its edge and on the assumption that the phase front is flat and is inclined at a determined angle relative to the main optical axis of the lens on the aperture of the lens antenna. For each of the rays an expression was written that determines its electrical length. The electrical length of the rays depends on the points coordinates of the illuminated and shadow surface of the lens, in which they are refracted. The analytical solution of the obtained equation is difficult. Therefore, it is proposed to determine the exact coordinate values by numerical methods. The proposed algorithm determines in series the three points lying on the illuminated and shadow surfaces. The coordinates of the points are used to form systems of equations whose solutions are the coefficients of power polynomials approximating the illuminated and shadow surfaces of the lens antenna. The algorithm does not impose restrictions on the relative dielectric constant of the material from which the lens antenna is made.
