Due to their advantages of high power density and high efficiency, permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSMs) are widely used in the field of electric vehicles (EVs). Vibration and noise are important indicators for evaluating the performance of PMSMs, and the skewed slot method is now widely used to mitigate the torque ripple and noise of motors. In the vector control strategy, the space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) method produces sideband voltage harmonics with a frequency near the switching frequency. These harmonics act on the magnetic field to generate an excitation force with a frequency near the switching frequency. This paper compares and analyzes the sideband harmonic current and the exciting force of a skewed slot motor and a straight slot motor during steady-state operation. The research results show that the skewed slot method can effectively mitigate the vibration and noise caused by sideband harmonics.

This paper presents an application of the IpDFT spectrum interpolation method to estimate the fundamental frequency of a power waveform. Zero-crossing method (ZC) with signal prefiltering was used as a reference method. Test models of disturbances were applied, based on real disturbances recorded in power networks, including voltage harmonics and interharmonics, transient overvoltages, frequency spikes, dips and noise. It was determined that the IpDFT method is characterized by much better dynamic parameters with better estimation precision. In an example, in the presence of interharmonics, the frequency estimation error was three times larger for the reference method than that for the IpDFT method. Furthermore, during the occurrence of fast transient overvoltages, the IpDFT method reached its original accuracy about three times faster than the ZC method. Finally, using IpDFT, it was possible to identify the type of disturbances: impulsive, step changes of frequency or voltage dips.

Harmonic distortions caused by non-linear loads (NLLs) affect the behavior of electrical systems, creating harmonics in the fundamental signal. As a result, this deteriorates the power quality. Therefore, this work proposes the implementation of a hybrid filter based on an artificial neural network (ANN) control system, focused on subharmonic, interharmonic and odd harmonic distortions generated by a three-pulse cycloconverter. In addition, a passive double tuned filter was implemented to damp even and odd harmonics. As a result, the simulation performed in MATLAB/SIMULINK showed that the responses produced by the ANN are approximate to the distortions present in the electrical system. Consequently, the levels of total voltage distortions (THDV) and total current distortions (THDI) are reduced. Therefore, the ANN control system improves the quality in the electrical network because the current and voltage harmonics comply with the electrical standards.

This manuscript illustrates the measurement results of parameters describing the quality of energy at the PCC (point of common coupling) of a photovoltaic micro-installation that can significantly affect devices in the same power grid. The analyses reflecting heating of selected devices used in domestic installations, which were performed in an isolated laboratory environment, are also indicated. The conducted study aimed at checking the thermal characteristics of the chosen equipment, i.e., AC/DC power supply, LED and fluorescent light sources, a step-down transformer at synergistically higher voltage harmonics and constant component in the network voltage. The tests were carried out at the disturbance levels recorded at the site of the photovoltaic micro-installation. The conducted tests aimed at indicating the presence of an increased level of synergetic disturbances in the vicinity of micro-photovoltaic installations. Based on the research, recommendations were made for photovoltaic micro-installations.

An Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC), owning the composition of shunt and series Active Power Filter (APF), has become a standard accepted solution in the area of current and voltage harmonics mitigation of a power system network. This paper furnishes a novel approach of nonal switched UPQC topology, supported with Distributed Generation (DG), aiming at the power quality enhancement and position optimization, placed at different locations in a standard IEEE 14 bus system. In addition to this, behaviour of the proposed topology is analysed using novel Cascade Proportional Integral (PI) - Fuzzy and Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM) as control algorithms and the outcomes are compared with the historical twelve switch UPQC topology. Simulation results of the proposal modelled in MATLAB/SIMULINK reveals the superiority of nonal switched UPQC and the optimal position of the proposed conditioner, for mitigating the harmonic issues in the standard IEEE 14 bus system.
