European Union Climate Governance and the European Green Deal in Turbulent Times

In December 2019, the European Commission published the European Green Deal (EGD), an overarching policy framework to achieve climate neutrality in Europe by 2050. This thematic issue aims to understand the origins, form, development, and scope of the EGD and its policy areas. It uses the concept of turbulence to explore and assess the emergence of the EGD and the policy and governance choices associated with it. Focusing on different levels of governance, different policy domains, and different stages of policymaking, each contribution raises pertinent questions about the necessity of identifying sources of turbulence and of understanding how to govern with such turbulence, rather than against it. Overall, the articles in this issue demonstrate that, while specifying contextual factors, researching the sources of and responses to turbulence provides useful insights into the development, direction, and potential durability or advancement of EU climate governance.

From Sugar to Nutritional Products – Product Form Development

The formulation of active ingredients into emulsion- and suspension-based delivery systems offers a wide range of opportunities to produce stable and highly bioavailable product forms for their later application in human and animal nutrition. Recent trends in product form development have focused on using renewable and naturally-derived raw materials to meet the increasing consumer demand on sustainable value chains and nutritional products with 'clean labelling'. Therefore, we reviewed chemical fundamentals and application examples of plant-derived protective hydrocolloids with highly potent emulsifying capacity, in particular, modified starches, pectin, and lignosulfonates, for the formulation of vitamins, carotenoids, and other active ingredients.

Ways and Challenges of Product Labelling for the Visually Impaired

The conceptualizing process plays an important role in assisting designers’ creativity in form and styling development. It contributes to representing the cultural elements before product transformation, which has a limited investigation. This research aims to identify the metaphorical form element that conveys the brain impaired as factors of selection and defining form development of the humanoid robot embodiment. Design Protocol Analysis obtains to into design linguistic interpretations and synthesizing design based on perceptual product experience. Findings have outlined the theory of metaphorical form element selection and identification that could represent brain impaired product in assisting humanoid robotic acceptance among autism. Applications of Statistical Tools for Optimization and Development of Smart Drug Delivery System

In the novel dosage form development, quality is the key criterion in pharmaceutical industry. The quality by design tools used for development of the quality products with tight specification and rigid process. The specifications of statistical tools are essentially based upon critical process parameters (CPPs), critical material attributes (CMAs), and critical quality attributes (CQAs) for the development of quality products. The application of quality by design in pharmaceutical dosage form development is systematic, requiring multivariate experiments employing process analytical technology (PAT) and other experiments to recognize critical quality attributes depend upon risk assessments (RAs). The quality by design is a modern technique to stabilize the quality of pharmaceutical dosage form. The elements of quality by design such as process analytical techniques, risk assessment, and design of experiment support for assurance of the strategy control for every dosage form with a choice of regular monitoring and enhancement for a quality dosage form. This chapter represents the concepts and applications of the most common screening of designs/experiments, comparative experiments, response surface methodology, and regression analysis. The data collected from the dosage form designing during laboratory experiments, provide the substructure for pivotal or pilot scale development. Statistical tools help not only in understanding and identifying CMAs and CPPs in product designing, but also in comprehension of the role and relationship between these in attaining a target quality. Although, the implementation of statistical approaches in the development of dosage form is strongly recommended.

Development Cycle Modeling: Transdisciplinary Implications

This paper argues that development (product, system, software, etc.) is an inherently transdisciplinary activity. Development is defined as the conversion of ideas into their manifestations. This conversion is often characterized by development phases, e.g., concept, requirements, design, implementation, and evaluation/testing (CRDIE). Iterative sequences of these phases form development cycles. Development cycles drive new product creation as well as product quality and cost and utility. Consequently, understanding development cycles is important. Models can provide insight; however, end-to-end quantitative development cycle models are, at best, rare. This paper outlines such a model, the Statistical Agent-based Model of Development and Evaluation (SAbMDE). For purposes of this paper, transdisciplinarity is defined as a developer’s holistic view of reality as filtered by that developer’s sensory input and perception of that reality. The model builds its mathematical and logical structures on a foundational concept that includes and describes this sensory and perceptual integration. Because the proposed model has this transdisciplinary characteristic, the model's use and results will have transdisciplinary implications. One implication: Ideas are discovered, not created. Another: A developer must first adjust their perception to see the development path that leads to a desired end product before they can traverse that path. A third: The ordering of information in a development space must be maintained.. This paper defines a minimal SAbMDE model that logically and mathematically reveals these and other SAbMDE transdisciplinarity implications.

Keele Street Avenue Study

From its humble origins as a rural country road to its present form as a suburban arterial, the Keele Street Corridor - stretching from Wilson Avenue to Grandravine Drive - has long served the transportation and day-to-day needs of North York and Toronto residents. The following study presents the corridor as it was, as it is, and as it could be. Through a series of recommendations, this report intends to offer a vision of the corridor as an urbanized, livable, and beautiful corridor in keeping with the Official Plan’s Avenues policies and based on the following principles: Locating new and denser housing types that encourage a mix of use, make efficient use of lands, frame the right-of-way, are appropriately massed and attractively designed. Supporting the creation of complete communities that provide a mix of unit types and offers a range of affordability. Creating high-quality and well-planned public spaces that retain existing residents, attract new residents, encourage interaction and animation, and provide the infrastructure required by all. Prioritizing opportunities for greening within the right-of-way, including planting new trees, creating new parks with frontage along Keele Street, planters, and green buildings. Reconfiguring and civilizing Keele Street into a complete street that serves as a living space for its residents, assigns priority to safety, and encourages active transportation and transit. The report is divided into two parts: The first part - BACKGROUND - contains a description of the corridor’s boundaries, its evolution from an agrarian community, presents the current built environment, and reviews the existing policy layers affecting the Corridor. The second part - PLAN - contains recommendations related to the future development and revitalization of the corridor related to future land uses, built form, development, public realm, parks and open space, and transportation network.
