The purpose of this experiment was to determine the effects of a simultaneous prompting procedure on the writing performance of three upper-elementary-level students diagnosed with learning disabilities (LD). Interventionists gave task directions followed by model prompts with a 0-s time delay to teach students composition. Non-targeted information related to the writing process was embedded in the form of progress monitoring. A multiple-baseline design across participants (AB) was used to assess the effectiveness of the intervention. Results indicate that the simultaneous prompting procedure positively affected the overall quality of writing of students with LD. Implications for practice and future research are discussed.

This study compared simultaneous prompting with an error correction procedure for teaching three children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder expressive labels. Using a parallel treatment design nested into a multiple probe design, each participant was taught how to expressively label pictures of sports teams or cartoon characters using either simultaneous prompting or an error correction procedure. The goal was to evaluate the effectiveness, efficiency, and acquisition during teaching for each participant across the two conditions. Results indicated that both teaching procedures were effective, with high rates of maintenance, and all participants responded correctly during the majority of teaching trials.

The aim of this research was to study the effectiveness of teaching with the simultaneous prompting in teaching students with intellectual disabilities attending the vocational education center and their ability to fold towels. Multiple baseline models with inter-subject probe stage, which is one of the single-subject research methods, has been used. The subjects of the research are three students, one female and two males, between the ages of 16-18. The dependent variable of the study was determined as the ability to fold the towel and the independent variable as the teaching with the simultaneous prompting using the physical prompt as a model + verbal prompt and error correction. In the study, inter-observer reliability and procedural reliability data were collected. Graphical analysis was used to determine the effectiveness of teaching with the simultaneous prompting. According to the findings obtained from the research, simultaneous prompting teaching is effective in teaching students with intellectual disabilities the ability to fold towels. It has been observed that the skill of folding towels into shapes continues to last two, three, and four weeks after the end of the education and that the subjects can generalize the skill in different types of towels.

In this study, it was aimed to determine the effects of the Simultaneous Prompting (SP) package jointly with the systematic review and corrective feedback in teaching a student with poor performance in mathematics to recall the multiplication facts. One of the single subject designs, the multiple probes design across behaviors (sets) is used in this study. The participant is an 11 years old female student at the 6th grade who has not been diagnosed with any disability but has been getting support because of her poor performance in mathematics than her peers. The dependent variable of this study is the skill of recall multiplication facts with the sets of 3, 5 and 8. The independent variable of the study is the SP package jointly with the systematic review and corrective feedback. Results show that the SP was effective in teaching the student with low mathematical performance to the skill of recall the multiplication facts. The student generalized the learned multiplication facts to another teacher and different setting and maintained her performance on the 15th and 45th days following the systematic reviews. Considering the findings of social validity, it has been determined that the teacher presented positive opinions, as she became happy with that achievement and the method is a way, which can be adopted and implemented by all teachers. These results indicate the acceptability of the SP package and results of the study are highly meaningful. Implications and future research needs are discussed.

In this study, researchers examine the impact of ecoaching (including a web-based professional development [PD] portal consisting of a learning module, self-monitoring, and video feedback) on preschool teachers’ use of a simultaneous prompting (SP) procedure and the effects of SP on teaching discrete skills to their students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The researchers also examine maintenance and generalization effects on teachers’ and students’ behaviors. Moreover, researchers investigate the social validity of the study. They use nested multiple probe designs across four preschool teacher and student dyads to evaluate the effects of the ecoaching intervention and the SP procedure, respectively, on teachers’ and students’ behaviors. Ecoaching was effective in the acquisition, maintenance, and generalization of preschool teachers’ use of the SP procedure, and the SP procedure was effective in teaching discrete skills to students with ASD. Teachers had positive opinions about ecoaching and the SP procedure. Limitations and implications for future research are discussed.

Researchers have investigated the simultaneous prompting (SP) procedure across three decades; however, no meta-analysis has been conducted. In the present systematic review, we conducted both a descriptive and meta-analysis of SP studies from a seminal publication of an SP study through 2017. Our search resulted in 20 studies published in English in internationally disseminated peer-reviewed journals that used single-case methodology and also met criteria for methodological rigor. To analyze effect sizes, we used percentage of non-overlapping points and Tau- U, with both revealing highly consistent results. We concluded that there is a substantial body of evidence to support the SP procedure to teach a variety of skills to individuals with disabilities when consistent parameters of the procedure are employed; however, future research is needed to specifically validate the procedure as effective in regard to specific types of disability (e.g., autism spectrum disorder) and specific types of tasks.
