Research and application of infrared thermography testing technology for large-scale amusement rides

The operation of large-scale amusement rides is directly related to the safety of the passengers. When an accident occurs involving an amusement ride, the social impact is extremely negative. Therefore, the safety requirements for large-scale amusement rides are extremely high. Condition monitoring and fault diagnosis technologies provide effective ways to ensure the safe operation. Infrared thermal imaging is a common inspection and monitoring technology, which is widely used in electrical and hydraulic machinery systems. However, there is little literature about the application of infrared thermography (IRT) in large-scale amusement rides and a lack of analysis and evaluation methods for infrared inspection results. In order to expand this technology to the field of large-scale amusement rides, it is necessary to research the temperature increase characteristics of key components and develop corresponding technical standards. In the current study, the temperature variation characteristics of the electrical and hydraulic systems of large-scale amusement rides are first examined. Subsequently, the first IRT testing standard for amusement rides in China is described, including its main content and technical requirements. Two test cases are provided in this study in order to illustrate the practicability and reliability of infrared thermography testing technology in the large-scale amusement rides industry.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy and Prostaglandin usage for Shred Injury in the Fingers: A Case Report

A 53-year-old woman came to the emergency department because her right hand had been stuck in a potato-shredding machine for 30 minutes. The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th fingers were shredded into multiple slices deep into the phalangeal bone, which showed good circulation, and the wounds were cleaned with massive saline irrigation. The slices of each finger were put together to form the finger, which was sutured with nylon, and the circulation of the fingers remained good. Three weeks of gentamicin, cefazolin, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy were used for acute traumatic ischemia since the color change of fingers was observed. Six weeks of prostaglandin was used for circulation recovery. The patient was able to grasp with minimal pain and do flexion and extension, and the wound was completely healed. Radiography showed the bone union process, and the digital infrared thermal imaging test showed relatively good circulation.

Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis: A Review of Novel Diagnostic and Monitoring Technologies

Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is the most common rheumatic disease of childhood and is characterized by an often insidious onset and a chronic relapsing–remitting course, once diagnosed. With successive flares of joint inflammation, joint damage accrues, often associated with pain and functional disability. The progressive nature and potential for chronic damage and disability caused by JIA emphasizes the critical need for a prompt and accurate diagnosis. This article provides a review of recent studies related to diagnosis, monitoring and management of JIA and outlines recent novel tools and techniques (infrared thermal imaging, three-dimensional imaging, accelerometry, artificial neural networks and fuzzy logic) which have demonstrated potential value in assessment and monitoring of JIA. The emergence of novel techniques to assist clinicians’ assessments for diagnosis and monitoring of JIA has demonstrated promise; however, further research is required to confirm their clinical utility.

Comparison of Infrared Thermal Imaging with Two Canine Pain Assessment Tools in Dogs Undergoing Treatment for Chronic Back Pain

Historically, the evaluation and assessment of the clinical response to treatment for canine back pain is subjective and relies on owner and clinician assessment of pain. Sequential infrared thermal images (IRTIs) objectively measure the patient’s physiological response after a prescribed series of photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) treatments. Qualifying participants had histories of pain and dysfunction associated with spinal osteoarthritis or intervertebral disk disease, or of non-specific uni- or bilateral back pain along the paravertebral epaxial muscles. Each patient was initially IRT imaged prior to PBMT treatment and then received multiple PBMT treatments delivered to the appropriate spinal area on days 1, 2, 3, and 4. Participants were reimaged on day 7. IRT images provided an objective assessment of the physiologic status of each patient after the PBMT regimen. The thermal changes in IRT images correlated with statistically significant changes in Colorado State University Canine Chronic Pain Scale scoring (CSU-CCPS) and owner assessment using the Canine Brief Pain Inventory (CBPI), which includes a Pain Severity Score (CBPI-PS) and Pain Interference Score (CBPI-PI). This proof-of-concept study demonstrates that IRTI provides an objective evaluation of response to PBMT treatment and correlates with observed and measured clinical response.
