Isolated Medial Subtalar Joint Dislocation during Soccer (Football) Game: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

Ankles injuries are common in sports such as football and soccer and one of the most serious and most rare is the subtalar dislocation. This injury is rare, touches young male patients and usually associated to fractures of the talus, the malleoli or the fifth metatarsal. Usually, this injury occurs in high-energy trauma, but it is very rare in sports injuries. Here we present the case of a 36-year-old male with an isolated Medial Subtalar Joint Dislocation after a severe tackle in a football (soccer) game. We performed a closed reduction under general anesthesia, and then a short-leg cast was applied for 4 weeks, followed by active and passive range of motion. At one-year follow up from trauma, the patient had a pain-free ankle with active full range of motion. For isolated medial subtalar dislocation occurring during sports activities, the first choice is the conservative treatment: Immediate closed reduction needs to be achieved followed by a short immobilization. Active/passive range of motion need to be started early to avoid joint stiffness.

SUB-TALAR DISLOCATION: ABOUT 2 CASES AND LITERATURE REVIEW

Subtalar dislocation is a rare injury in traumatology. The lateral variant is exceptional and provides more complications. This dislocation often occurs following high energy trauma and involves simultaneous dislocation of the subtalar and talo-navicular joints. We report two cases of subtalar dislocation, medial and lateral, with good evolution.

Isolated Closed Medial Subtalar Dislocation Without Ankle Fracture: A Rare Case Report

Subtalar dislocation is an unusual clinical case with very little mention in literature constituting nearly 1% of all traumatic dislocations. Here a 40 year old male who sustained fall over inverted foot was diagnosed as closed isolated medial subtalar dislocation with no associated fractures. This is an even more rare entity. Immediate closed reduction was done and immobilised for 4 weeks with below knee cast. This case report describes the mechanism of injury, ligaments involved, manoeuvre of closed reduction. This case report highlights the importance of prompt and urgent reduction and short period of immobilisation to avoid complications and better prognosis. Neglected Posterior Subtalar Dislocation: A Case Report and Operative Technique

Posterior subtalar dislocation is an exceedingly rare entity. Early anatomic reduction, initially by closed means, is crucial. Failure to recognize this condition or any occurrence of neglect will complicate the management and worsen the outcome. There are a handful of case reports on posterior subtalar dislocation and even less for neglected cases. This study reports a neglected subtalar dislocation in a 26-year-old male who worked as a driver and had experienced high-energy trauma due to car collision. This patient was managed by open reduction and pinning, and was followed up 2 months later with a good outcome. This technique was selected to be able to achieve functional motions without pain.
