AbstractThis paper studies the regularity problem for block uniformly elliptic operators in divergence form with complex bounded measurable coefficients. We consider the case where the boundary data belongs to Lebesgue spaces with weights in the Muckenhoupt classes. Our results generalize those of S. Mayboroda (and those of P. Auscher and S. Stahlhut employing the first order method) who considered the unweighted case. To obtain our main results we use the weighted Hardy space theory associated with elliptic operators recently developed by the last two named authors. One of the novel contributions of this paper is the use of an “inhomogeneous” vertical square function which is shown to be controlled by the gradient of the function to which is applied in weighted Lebesgue spaces.

This paper is concerned with the global regularity problem on the micropolar Rayleigh-Bénard problem with only velocity dissipation in $\mathbb {R}^{d}$ with $d=2\ or\ 3$ . By fully exploiting the special structure of the system, introducing two combined quantities and using the technique of Littlewood-Paley decomposition, we establish the global regularity of solutions to this system in $\mathbb {R}^{2}$ . Moreover, we obtain the global regularity for fractional hyperviscosity case in $\mathbb {R}^{3}$ by employing various techniques including energy methods, the regularization of generalized heat operators on the Fourier frequency localized functions and logarithmic Sobolev interpolation inequalities.

AbstractThe question of whether a singularity can form in an initially regular flow, described by the 3D incompressible Navier–Stokes (NS) equations, is a fundamental problem in mathematical physics. The NS regularity problem is super-critical, i.e., there is a ‘scaling gap’ between what can be established by mathematical analysis and what is needed to rule out a singularity. A recently introduced mathematical framework—based on a suitably defined ‘scale of sparseness’ of the regions of intense vorticity—brought the first scaling reduction of the NS super-criticality since the 1960s. Here, we put this framework to the first numerical test using a spatially highly resolved computational simulation performed near a ‘burst’ of the vorticity magnitude. The results confirm that the scale is well suited to detect the onset of dissipation and provide numerical evidence that ongoing mathematical efforts may succeed in closing the scaling gap.

Abstract We consider the maximal regularity problem for a PDE of linear acoustics, named the Van Wijngaarden–Eringen equation, that models the propagation of linear acoustic waves in isothermal bubbly liquids, wherein the bubbles are of uniform radius. If the dimensionless bubble radius is greater than one, we prove that the inhomogeneous version of the Van Wijngaarden–Eringen equation, in a cylindrical domain, admits maximal regularity in Lebesgue spaces. Our methods are based on the theory of operator-valued Fourier multipliers.

AbstractProbabilistic Büchi automata are a natural generalization of PFA to infinite words, but have been studied in-depth only rather recently and many interesting questions are still open. PBA are known to accept, in general, a class of languages that goes beyond the regular languages. In this work we extend the known classes of restricted PBA which are still regular, strongly relying on notions concerning ambiguity in classical $$\omega $$ ω -automata. Furthermore, we investigate the expressivity of the not yet considered but natural class of weak PBA, and we also show that the regularity problem for weak PBA is undecidable.
