BRITAIN AND CONSENSUS POLITICS, 1945-1955: MYTH OR REALITY?

This study lies within the framework of the years 1945-1955, which correspond to Clement Attlee’s Labourite and Winston Churchill’s Conservative administrations. The objective is to demonstrate, by means of an analysis of their speeches and the proposals of their respective political parties, that the ideological differences hindered a total agreement. These primary sources are examined from several perspectives. The main emphasis of this study falls on the ideology as a distinctive element and its influence on other fields such as education, the welfare system or the economy. The results reveal a lack of consensus based on their opposite political cultures.

Pola Budaya Politik Masyarakat Pendatang: Studi Pada Orang Palembang di Kota Pangkalpinang

The pattern of political culture is the pattern of people's behavior in the life of the state, nation, state administration, government politics, and the law carried out by the whole community every day. One of these political cultures is influenced by immigrant communities living in one area. This study aims to determine the cultural patterns of the immigrant community, especially the Palembang people in Pangkalpinang City, which are cognitive, affective, and evaluative oriented. Knowing the immigrant community's cultural way in Pangkalpinang City will produce conclusions and prove that the immigrant community (Palembang people) carries out the pattern of political culture in Pangkalpinang City.

“CULTURE OF UNKNOWLEDGE” AS A FORM OF HISTORICAL IMAGINATION AND POLITICAL CULTURE OF RUSSIAN AND BULGARIAN NATIONALISMS

The author analyzes the images of the Ukrainian and Macedonian languages in the political cultures of Internet users in Russia and Bulgaria. The non-academic concepts of the history and status of the Macedonian and Ukrainian languages are analyzed, and the dependence of such theories on the political and ideological situation is shown. It is assumed that the analyzed interpretations of the Ukrainian and Macedonian languages historically go back to the Russian and Bulgarian nationalisms, which deny the existence of separate Macedonian and Bulgarian languages, which automatically leads to non-recognition of the political legitimacy of countries where these languages are state ones. The author believes that the analyzed levels of political culture of Internet users, on the one hand, contradict the main provisions of academic science. On the other hand, it is assumed that the activity of supporters of the analyzed versions of the Ukrainian and Macedonian languages perception is predominantly virtual, assisting to the formation of the image of the enemy in political cultures. The author believes that the analyzed moods are extremely stable and adaptive, forming symbolically significant dimensions of the Russian and Bulgarian nationalist imaginations in promotion both the concepts of identity and the formation of the images of the Other.

7. The lessons of histories

‘The lesson of histories’ explores the lessons from histories of plague. These lessons highlight the importance of cultures and institutions, contexts and agents in creating epidemics and reactions to them. They show that the ways in which people think and live, the kinds of information available to them, and the kinds of behaviour they adopt make a difference. Whether they were effective or not, the quarantine policies invented and developed in early modern Europe demonstrated the role played by political cultures and political institutions in shaping reactions to plague. The responses to new or ‘re-emerging’ diseases, which seemed to threaten fresh pandemic disasters, including HIV/AIDS and COVID-19, have shown that public and private responses to them will be necessary, diverse, and divisive, and no more certain to succeed than they were in the past.

Business Improvement District Enabling Laws in the United States and Germany: A Comparative Analysis of Policy Learning

This study aims to answer the question how political cultures of respective countries affect policy learning processes. Using historical and contextual information about the political cultures of the United States and Germany and with applications of the advocacy coalition framework and cultural theory, this study finds that the originally American business improvement district (BID) institutional form was adopted in Germany when its political culture was open to it. German policy makers adopted the provisions of the U.S. laws that were compatible with their secondary beliefs, which were related to where and how to deliver local services. They did not directly adopt the BID governing models in the U.S. laws, which were based on the American deep core and policy core beliefs. Instead, they adapted the American models to their own Hegelian deep core beliefs and the hierarchical political core beliefs, which resulted in the formulation of the “ Aufgabenträger” (task performer) model.

Canadian intellectual F. R. Scott and his impact upon the establishment of political culture in Canada in the XX century

The subject of this research is the personality of the Canadian intellectual Francis Reginald Scott and his impact upon the state and development of political culture in Canada in the XX century. The evolution of Canadian political culture during the life of F. R. Scott affected by the objective historical factors that formed its distinctive features, new political traditions and new Canadian values, as well as by intresubjective factor, through which manifested the influence of Canadian intellectuals, politicians and public figures. The research methodology leans on the scientific principles of historicism, systematicity and objectivity, intersubjective and societal approaches; and special historical methods of research, such as comparative, typological, genetic and systemic. The scientific novelty lies in tracing the evolution of Canadian political culture in the XX century. The acquired results can be used in further research of the history of political cultures of foreign countries, as well as in scientific-pedagogical activity. The author concludes the evolution of Canadian political culture during the life of F. R. Scott was affected not only by objective historical factors, but also by intresubjective factor, through which manifested the impact of political and social activity of F. R. Scott. The author’s special contribution consists in the new approach towards characterization of political cultures of different nations, which obtained their uniqueness in the course of historical development.
