Background: The progress in the use of computer-aided design/computer aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) to fabricat removable prosthodontic prostheses in dental clinics has been exponential. Commercially existing CAD/CAM denture techniques grow every year with increasing benefits to dentists and patients. Study Design: Systematic review. Aims: This review assessed and evaluated the different clinical production protocols of presently accessible CAD/CAM denture systems that offer decision support for dental practitioners. Methodology: Data   for the current object were collected by surveys from different companies manufacturing the Computer Engineering Complete Denture (CECDs). All related subjects published at the last 10 years were collected and included in this review. Techniques were arranged in alphabetical order, as follows. AvaDent Digital Dentures (Global Dental Science), Baltic Denture Creator System (Merz Dental GmbH), and Ceramill Full Denture System (Amann Girrbach AG) can manufacture denture fabrication in three visits, including a try-in step. DENTCA Digital Dentures (Whole You Nexteeth, Inc) can also perform this in three visits. The Wieland Digital Denture (Ivoclar Vivadent, Inc) can manufacture in four dental appointments. Recently developed VITA VIONIC Digital System (VITA Zahnfabrik, Bad Säckingen, Germany) can perform two-step CECD manufacturing. Results: Most of the systems involved subtractive manufacturing for the fabrication of their dentures and only closed systems. However, Baltic Denture System and VITA VIONIC material types are an open structure that allow users to choose among different handling protocols. It can be shared with several unclosed digital scanner, CAD software options, and milling machines. Conclusions: The six existing CECD fabrication systems offer many advantages. The decision on which technique to use may be contingent on the dentist’s prosthodontic expertise, patient output amount, and requirements concerning denture individualization.

Fabricating a complete denture in a conventional manner may be complicated and difficult. The purpose of this article was to describe the benefits of a fully digital workflow and fabrication procedure of complete dentures based on digital impressions of edentulous jaws. The digital data for the workflow were acquired using an intraoral scanner and were then used to design the denture base and teeth. The resulting data were exported to a 3D printer or a milling machine for denture fabrication.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to describe a clinical protocol for fabrication of maxillary and mandibular dentures using CAD/CAM technology. Further, digital and conventional dentures fabricated for the same patient were compared. The comparison was based on patient’s satisfaction, comfort, retention, number of follow-up sessions, masticatory performance and quality of life. No laboratorial step was needed for CAD/CAM fabrication and less sessions were required up to denture insertion. Compared to the conventional dentures, digital dentures provided better satisfaction, comfort and retention and required less follow-up sessions. Both dentures presented similar results about masticatory performance and quality of life. As a conclusion, digital denture is a viable treatment alternative for edentulous patients. However, controlled and randomized clinical trials are required to reveal the real benefits of this treatment alternative compared to the conventional denture.

Utilization of computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) rapidly increases in dental medicine. Making of computer-engineered complete denture is based on scanning of patient data, designing of prosthesis and milling or rapid prototyping. This is digital denture, term that includes innovative devices, software programmes and corresponding materials. Industrially polymerized cross-linked polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) is the material used for fabrication of digital denture. The aim of this study is to analyze the different cross-linked PMMA used for fabrication of CAD/CAM complete denture.
