The testing of the bird-scarer was performed for regarding one month in August 2015. All major species of birds were tested however the most focus was on Crows as they're the most important injury inflicting bird species in Bharat. There are twenty-two ordinarily legendary predator sounds from birds like Eagle, Owl, Falcon etc. were tested and it had been discovered that the sound from Falcon was the foremost effective to intimidate Crows yet as alternative species. Constant-Time Complete Visibility for Robots with Lights: The Asynchronous Case

We consider the distributed setting of N autonomous mobile robots that operate in Look-Compute-Move (LCM) cycles and use colored lights (the robots with lights model). We assume obstructed visibility where a robot cannot see another robot if a third robot is positioned between them on the straight line segment connecting them. In this paper, we consider the problem of positioning N autonomous robots on a plane so that every robot is visible to all others (this is called the Complete Visibility problem). This problem is fundamental, as it provides a basis to solve many other problems under obstructed visibility. In this paper, we provide the first, asymptotically optimal, O(1) time, O(1) color algorithm for Complete Visibility in the asynchronous setting. This significantly improves on an O(N)-time translation of the existing O(1) time, O(1) color semi-synchronous algorithm to the asynchronous setting. The proposed algorithm is collision-free, i.e., robots do not share positions, and their paths do not cross. We also introduce a new technique for moving robots in an asynchronous setting that may be of independent interest, called Beacon-Directed Curve Positioning.

Communicating Robotic Help Requests

In this paper we report results from a web- and video-based study on the perception of a request for help from a robot head. Colored lights, eye-expressions and politeness of the used language were varied. We measured effects on expression identification, hedonic user experience, perceived politeness, and help intention. Additionally, sociodemographic data, a ‘face blindness’ questionnaire, and negative attitudes towards robots were collected to control for possible influences on the dependent variables. A total of n = 139 participants were included in the analysis. In this paper, the focus is placed on interaction effects and on the influence of covariates. Significant effects were found for the interaction of LED lighting and eye-expressions and for language and eye-expressions on help intention. The expression identification is significantly influenced by the interaction of LED lighting and eye-expressions. Several significant effects of the covariates were found, both direct and from interaction with independent variables. Especially the negative attitudes towards robots significantly influence help intention and perceived politeness. The results provide information on the effect of different design choices for help requesting robots.

Interactive Effects of Spectral Lights and Salt Stress on Production of Secondary Metabolites and Growth Behavior in Economically Important Brassica Rapa

BackgroundEnvironmental factors like, temperature, humidity, light intensity, the supply of water, minerals, and CO2 influence the growth of a plant and biomass accumulation and production of secondary metabolites. Plant cell culture technologies have been effective tools for both studying and producing plant secondary metabolites under in vitro conditions and for plant improvement. The main objective of the current study was to investigate the biomass production and accumulation of secondary metabolites in Brassica rapa in response to synergism of abiotic factors including salt and colored lights.MethodsBrassica rapa sterilized seed were germinated and exposed to different colored lights (white as a control, yellow, blue, green and red) in combination with different concentrations of salt. The length of shoot, root and biomass (fresh and dry) were monitored during the developmental stages. Total phenolics and flavonoids content of the samples were also investigated. Data was analyzed using ANOVA-single factorial.ResultsResults revealed that plants exposed to the synergism of salt stress and spectral lights have shown negative effects on the seed germination. Shoot length (75 mm) increased, while root length (55 mm) was inhibited in plants exposed to synergism of spectral lights and different concentrations of salt when compared with controlled conditions (48 mm for shoot and 100 mm for root). However, the fresh weight of the plants was increased at lower concentration of salt than controlled. Lowest concentration of salt in synergism with green light showed the maximum response. Total phenolic content increased, while total flavonoid decreases with increasing salt concentration. Maximum total phenolic and flavonoids content were recorded in dark incubation with a high and medium concentration of salt respectively.ConclusionBased on these results, it was concluded that synergism of low salt concentration and colored lights are effective but high concentrations of salt in combination with colored lights inhibited the growth of Brassica rapa.

Visual Feedback System for Otolaryngology Procedures

The objective of this project was to design a visual feedback attachment for the Coblator II, tonsil and adenoid removal device. Currently, one device is used to perform both cauterization and ablation, controlled by two pedals outside of the field of view. A device is needed that distinguishes between the two functions visually within the field of view. This will be attached to the tray table that is used during the surgical procedure. It will feature two different colored lights, blue and yellow, and be disposable or have a special cover that is able to be replaced between each patient’s procedure. In addition to this, there will be a slight delay between when the light is initially illuminated and the function begins, as an extra safety precaution.

Christmas Tree Cataract

Christmas tree cataract is a rare type of lens opacification which is usually age related, though several cases have been seen in patients with myotonic dystrophy. It consists of highly refractive multicolored needle-shaped opacities within the deep cortex of the lens (1). The exact mechanism of crystals is not exactly known, but different theories have been proposed. Shun-Shin et al. postulated that the crystals were most likely of cystine due to an age-related aberrant breakdown of lens induced by elevated Ca++ levels (1). According to Anders and Wollensak, the crystals were cholesterol in nature and were the result of lens metabolism (2). A 64 years old female presented with reduced visual acuity in her right eye. Her best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) in right eye was 6/10 Snellen chart. Slit lamp examination after pupillary dilatation revealed highly reflective, polychromatic, needle-shaped crystals in the temporal and inferior cortex of the right lens with associated nuclear sclerosis. This aspect of glittering multi-colored opacities varying with the angle of light incidence resembles the colored lights decorating the Christmas tree(Fig.1). As the visual acuity was significantly reduced and there were no other associated ocular pathologies, we decided for a cataract surgery in the right eye. Since the crystals are highly refringent and change considerably the viewing of the surgeon during the procedure, an increased time of surgery should be avoided (3) (4). Uneventful extracapsular phacoemusification of the lens with monofocal artificial intraocular lens implantation within the capsular bag was performed with very good results.

Hume's Colors and Newton's Colored Lights

In a 2004 paper, ‘Hume's Missing Shade of Blue Reconsidered from a Newtonian Perspective,’ Eric Schliesser argues that Hume's well-known discussion of the missing shade of blue ‘reveals considerable ignorance of Newton's achievement in optics,’ and that Hume has failed to assimilate the lessons taught by Newton's optical experiments. I argue in this paper, contrary to Schliesser, that Hume's views on color are logically and evidentially independent of Newton's results. In developing my reading, I will argue that Schliesser accepts an overly broad interpretation of the implications of Newton's experimental results, and takes inadequate account of Hume's disciplined methodological restrictions on the kinds of experiential evidence that are to be admitted in building the foundations of his science of human nature.
