Abstract Up to a factor 1/n!, the volume of a big line bundle agrees with the Euclidean volume of its Okounkov body. The latter is the convex hull of top rank valuation vectors of sections, all with respect to a single flag. In this paper, we give a new volume formula, valid in the ample cone. It is also based on top rank valuation vectors, but mixes data coming from several different flags.

Abstract In [2], Huayi Chen introduced approximable graded algebras, which he uses to prove a Fujita-type theorem in the arithmetic setting, and asked if any such algebra is the graded ring of a big line bundle on a projective variety. This was proved to be false in [ 8]. Continuing the analysis started in [8], we show that while not every approximable graded algebra is a sub algebra of the section ring of a big line bundle, we can associate to any approximable graded algebra $\textbf{B}$ a projective variety $X(\textbf{B})$ and an infinite divisor $D(\textbf{B}) =\sum _{i=1}^\infty a_i D_i$ with $a_i\rightarrow 0$ such that $\textbf{B}$ is a subalgebra of $$\begin{equation*} R( D(\textbf{B}))=\oplus_n H^0(X(\textbf{B}), n D(\textbf{B})).\end{equation*}$$We also establish a partial converse to these results by showing that if an infinite divisor $D=\sum _i a_iD_i$ converges in the space of numerical classes, then any full-dimensional sub-graded algebra of $\oplus _mH^0(X, \lfloor mD \rfloor ))$ is approximable.

Let $(X,{\rm\Delta})$ be a projective klt (standing for Kawamata log terminal) three-dimensional pair defined over an algebraically closed field $k$ with $\text{char}(k)>5$. Let $L$ be a nef (numerically eventually free) and big line bundle on $X$ such that $L-K_{X}-{\rm\Delta}$ is big and nef. We show that $L$ is indeed semi-ample.

Let (X, L) be a quasi-polarized pair, i.e. X is a normal complex projective variety and L is a nef and big line bundle on it. We study, up to birational equivalence, the positivity (nefness) of the adjoint bundles KX + rL for high rational numbers r. For this we run a Minimal Model Program with scaling relative to the divisor KX + rL. We give then some applications, namely the classification up to birational equivalence of quasi-polarized pairs with sectional genus 0, 1 and of embedded projective varieties X ⊂ ℙN with degree smaller than 2 codim ℙN(X) + 2.

AbstractWe associate to certain filtrations of a graded linear series of a big line bundle a concave function on its Okounkov body, whose law with respect to the Lebesgue measure describes the asymptotic distribution of the jumps of the filtration. As a consequence, we obtain a Fujita-type approximation theorem in this general filtered setting. We then specialize these results to the filtrations by minima in the usual context of Arakelov geometry (and for more general adelically normed graded linear series), thereby obtaining in a simple way a natural construction of an arithmetic Okounkov body, the existence of the arithmetic volume as a limit and an arithmetic Fujita approximation theorem for adelically normed graded linear series. We also obtain an easy proof of the existence of the sectional capacity previously obtained by Lau, Rumely and Varley.
