Important powertrain dynamics for developing models for control of connected and automated electrified vehicles

Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAV) technology presents significant opportunities for energy saving in the transportation sector. CAV technology forecasts vehicle and powertrain power needs under various terrain, ambient, and traffic conditions. Integration of the CAV technology in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) provides the opportunity for optimal vehicle operation. Indeed, Hybrid Electric Vehicle powertrains present high degrees of flexibility and possibility for choosing optimum powertrain modes based on the predicted traction power needs. In modeling complex CAV powertrain dynamics, the modeler needs to consider short-time scale powertrain dynamics, such as engine transients, and hysteresis of mode-switching for a multi-mode HEV. Therefore, the powertrain dynamics essential for developing powertrain controllers for a class of connected HEVs is presented. To this end, control-oriented powertrain dynamic models for a test vehicle consisting of full electric, hybrid, and conventional engine operating modes are developed. The resulting powertrain model can forecast vehicle traction torque and energy consumption for the specified prediction horizon of the test vehicle. The model considers different operating modes and associated energy penalty terms for mode switching. Thus, the vehicle controller can determine the optimum powertrain mode, torque, and speed for forecasted vehicle operation via utilizing connectivity data. The powertrain model is validated against the experimental data and shows prediction error of less than 5% for predicting vehicle energy consumption. The model is used to create energy penalty maps that can be used for CAV control, for example fuel penalty map for engine torque changes (10–40 Nm) at each engine speed. The results of model-based optimization show optimum switching delays ranging from 0.4 to 1.4 s to avoid hysteresis in mode switching.

Investigation of dynamics and power needs for container unloading from ship process

The operational problem of container unloading from the ship is analyzed in this paper. Dynamic “crane-cargo-ship” system was investigated, and a mathematical model was created. In the model, the gap between the container and the ship’s cargo hold, the mass of the cargo, the container’s center of the mass, and the frictional forces that may occur during lifting from the cargo hold were estimated. Numerical analysis of the system was performed. Results of numerical analysis were compared with experimental measurements of containers unloading process in port. Requirement of lifting power was modelled depending on mass of cargo. Additional power needs in case of contact forces between container and wall of the ship’s cargo hold were calculated. Rational lifting conditions could be deduced using a created mathematical model and the reliability of the container and cargo during lifting could be deduced.

Academics’ Perceptions of Quality in Higher Education in Turkey

Quality in education is one of the main concerns for governments in order to make sure the students will be able to meet the work power needs of the sector, and be able to get a job that meets their expectations in career when they graduate. In other words, it can be summarized with two words; input quality and output equality. The study aimed to investigate Turkish academics’ perceptions about the quality in higher education in Turkey. The study adopted survey method based on quantitative data. The participants comprised 53 academics from different universities in Turkey, and they were selected randomly on voluntary basis. The data were collected in distance using “The Questionnaire of Academics’ Perceptions of Quality in Higher Education” adapted from Rossner (2008) as a Google Form. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency and percentage. The results revealed that majority of academics in Turkey were in favor for accreditation, they were in the opinion that the curricula content should be designed in accordance with the 21st century skills and market needs, and certified programs should be offered to students in an educational environment where even academics should be observed by field experts to make sure about the quality of educational practices.

Superconducting Surge Current Limiter

A superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) for medium voltage networks cooled by a cryocooler was designed, built and tested by the current author. For the construction of this limiter, a high-temperature second generation superconducting tape (HTS 2G)—SF12100—was used. In this limiter, it is possible to change the working temperature. The possibility of changing the operating temperature allows for adjusting the parameters of the limiter to the electric power needs. Adjusting the parameters of the limiter to the power needs is a key problem to solve, resulting from the ambiguous characteristics of HTS tapes. Cooling with a cryocooler is the only solution in the case of a limiter for power industry applications. The electric power mechanism does not tolerate any liquids. After analyzing the experimental results and after analyzing the results from the numerical models of the limiter, the concepts of using superconductors to limit current in the power industry were changed: the transition from a superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) to a superconducting surge current limiter (SSCL). Transition to the limiter operation system—surge current limitation—is associated with the reduction in the limiter operation time. The advantages of the transition from the SFCL to SSCL work system are presented.

Since the covid-19 outbreak, which requires all Indonesian citizens and even all over the world to apply WFH (Work Form Home) where the continuity of teaching and learning is also carried out online (In the Network) using media that we already recognize with the term zoom meeting or other media that saves usage. internet package, so that students in the learning process will produce a good ending. Learning is basically a process of interaction between educators and students, both direct (face-to-face) and indirect (learning activities using learning media in web applications). In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, teaching and learning activities are recommended to use an online learning model. The government has also provided assistance to students and educators in an effort to provide a free quota of 50GB every month, the level of the amount of the quota depends on the level of education as well, starting from elementary, junior high, high school to college, why is there a need for differences in the amount of quota distribution. Because each level requires different power, the higher the level of majority education, the more power needs that must be spent to achieve something that is expected. This study used an interview method to one of the teachers of SDN Poris Pelawad 1. The interview was conducted directly / offline by approaching the resource person.

Analysis And Evaluation Of Pharmacist Power Needs With The WISN Method In The Pharmaceutical Installation Of Haji Hospital Surabaya

The success of the hospital in carrying out its functions is influenced by several factors, among which the most dominant is human resources. Human resources are one of the important factors to be able to provide quality and comprehensive services in health services and are the key determinants of the rate and quality of services. The method of calculating needs based on workload (WISN) is an indicator that shows the amount of workforce required for health facilities based on workload, so that the allocation / relocation of labor will be easier and more rational. This research is a descriptive observational research with qualitative data analysis with purposive sampling method, namely the sampling technique by determining certain criteria. The HR category that will be calculated is the pharmacist in the Pharmacy Installation of the Surabaya Haji Hospital and results in a calculation of the total need for pharmacists of 24 people, compared to the current number of pharmacists of 20 pharmacists, the addition of pharmacists is 4 people in the Home Pharmacy Installation Haji Hospital Surabaya. The current number of fulfilled personnel from the calculation results only fulfills 83% of the ideal amount generated by the WISN method. With the obstacles faced such as the large workload of clinical pharmacy services that are carried out every day. To anticipate this, it is necessary to fulfill the need for pharmacists.

Modification and Performance Test of Prototype I Washer Machine

The sweet potato (Ipomoea batatara L.) is one of the world’s important tubers with a production of more than 133 million ton. In 2019, the Laboratory of Agricultural Equipment and Machinery designed a Prototype I Washer The machine is not optimal, reaching 67.13%, and it needs to be modified because the skin of the sweet potato is cleaned and exfoliated so that it can reduce the quality of the sweet potato. The method used in this research is engineering, which is a non-routine design activity with new construction of process and product. Base on Matlab program, the result of the modification research and performance tests, is by using the prototipe I washer, the percentage of the level of cleanliness was 80.02%. Where with an increase 67.13% using the performance machine. Based on the evaluation of technical feasibility and engine performance tests, it is found that the propulsion power needs 1 HP and the deflection of the frame is only 13.06 mm. The theoretical capacity of the engine is 231.68 kg.hour-1, the actual capacity is 100 kg.hour-1 with an efficiency of 44.39%, the noise level of 77 dB and the engine vibration of 13.43 m.s-1.

Learning with the devil: mentoring and advocates

PurposeThe purpose of this research was to understand the lived experience of mentoring to provide insight for those who manage and experience mentoring at work.Design/methodology/approachSemi-structured interviews with a cohort of 43 mentors and their mentees plus key informants were conducted. It is a longitudinal qualitative study undertaken with a year's cohort of mentors (referred to as “devilmasters”) and mentees (“devils”) in the profession of law, amongst Scottish barristers, advocates.FindingsThe meanings of mentoring differed widely between individuals. Mentoring relationships differed in their depth, quality and benefits the mentees received. The research findings reveal the inconsistencies and inequalities that are a fundamental part of the experience of mentoring that, as yet, the research literature has missed. The research also revealed how mentoring alone was not enough and that structured training was required to supplement mentoring. Further, there is a dependency to be found in mentoring. The mentoring process is power laden.Research limitations/implicationsResearchers may need to provide a definition of mentoring to those they research. Power needs to be fore-grounded in research.Originality/valueAs almost all previous research on mentoring is survey based, this is one of the few studies of the lived experience of mentoring, socialization and cognitive apprenticeship.

Mobile device for mobile communication, especially GSM communication is one of the most important thing in our daily activities. A massive mobilty and connectivity to make sure everyone is connected to each other is necessary. In a same time, electrical power needs will increase in order to support the increasingly rapid exchange of information. In this research shown the result of circular waveguide array mode TM01 measurement for RF energy harvesting application at frequency GSM 1800 MHz – 1900 MHz. Design of circular waveguide array through parameter study developed an optimum result, return loss at frequency centre 1850 MHz. Realization of this design is measured in unechoic chamber for minimizing a reflected wave from the ambient, so it called an ideal area for waveguide parameter measurement.
