A Systematic Review of Web Accessibility Metrics

Currently, providing accessible websites for all users is an essential requirement. There are various qualitative and quantitative evaluation methods to assure accessibility. Among these, the quantitative methods show the level of accessibility of the website using web accessibility metrics (WAM), which provide a way to understand, control, and improve these websites. This study was aimed to identify current trends and analyze WAMs through a systematic literature review. Therefore, 30 WAM studies that were published since 2008 were determined and investigated according to attributes defined for the metrics such as guideline set used by the metric, coupling level with the guidelines, type of evaluation, site complexity, and validation with the user. Fourteen recently proposed WAMs were determined since 2008. Recently proposed WAMs have begun to consider more elaborate issues such as rich internet applications, website complexity, usability, or user experience issues and implement some machine learning approaches for the metrics.

STATE-OF-THE-ART AND TRENDS IN THE SYSTEMATIC DEVELOPMENT OF RICH INTERNET APPLICATIONS

Rich Internet Applications (RIAs) are widely adopted Web applications that add the richer interaction, presentation, and client-side computation capabilities of desktop applications to the Web. However, the evolution from Web applications towards RIAs comes at the cost of increased complexity in their development. For this reason, a wide variety of tools and technologies have been proposed in order to streamline their development effort. This paper investigates the current state of the art of the RIA development approaches. The review shows that the current industrial development practice lacks a comprehensive approach to RIA development, supporting all the development steps from the design to implementation, test and maintenance, and helping identifying correct design choices. This is in part due to the severe fragmentation of current RIA technologies that prevents the adoption of a commonly recognized set of best practices resulting in ad-hoc development processes. These aspects are in part treated by research methodologies and some innovative industrial solutions, but also these approaches present some limitations. The paper identifies future research directions for RIAs to fully support their development process and to support their design in a more comprehensive and systematic way, from both industrial and research perspectives.

CIC - mecanismo para identificação automática de widgets Calendários em Rich Internet Applications

A Web proporciona cada vez mais interatividade aos usuários por meio de Rich Internet Applications (RIAs). Entretanto, devido a natureza dinâmica de RIAs, a maioria das aplicações ainda não implementam soluções acessíveis em seus componentes por diversos motivos, como a falta de conhecimento dos desenvolvedores. O primeiro passo para construção de ferramentas automáticas para avaliação de acessibilidade em RIAs é a identificação dos elementos dinâmicos que compõem uma página Web. Este artigo apresenta um mecanismo capaz de identificar automaticamente os componentes dinâmicos presentes em RIAs. Em especial, foi desenvolvido um componente, o CIC - Calendar Identification Component, como instância do mecanismo proposto, demonstrando sua viabilidade.

The Reverse Engineering of a Web Application Struts Based in the ADM Approach

<p>Since web technologies are constantly evolving, the adaptation of legacy web applications to new paradigms such as rich internet applications (RIAs) is become a necessity. In such tendencies, we notice that several web leaders has already migrated their web applications to RIAs. However, it faces many challenges due to the variety of frameworks. Nevertheless, and in order to facilitate the process of migration, it would be ideal to use tools that could help automatically generate or ease the generation of UML (Unified Modeling Language) models from legacy web application. In this context, novel technical frameworks used for information integration and migration processes such as Architecture-Driven Modernization Task Force (ADMTF) were fashioned to describe specifications and promote industry accord on the modernization of existing applications. In this paper, we propose a process for migrating application from Struts to UML model using ADM standards and MoDisco. We then present a case study as an example illustrating the different steps of the proposed process. We then validated the proposition within Eclipse Modelling Framework since a number of its tools and run-time environments are indeed aligned with ADM standards.</p>
