Polysaccharide-Based Organic Frameworks with Embedded Nanoparticles: Advanced SPR Study on the Antiviral Activity of Gold Composites Derived from Glucuronoxylomannan

The nanosized composites based on the natural polysaccharides and nanoparticles of noble metals are promising candidates for efficient antiviral drugs. However, the complexity of such objects, their diversity and novelty necessitate the development of new analytical methods for investigation of such supramolecular architectures. In this work, which was recently developed for SPR-based instrumentation, the concept of variative refraction (DViFA, density variations in fixed architectures) was used to elucidate the mechanism of the antiviral action of a polysaccharide with gold nanoparticles grown in it. The SPR data were confirmed by direct biological tests: the effect of the native polysaccharide glucuronoxylomannan (GXM) obtained from the fungus Ganoderma adspersum and gold nanocomposites thereon on the infection of Datura stramonium with tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) was investigated. Both drugs suppress the development of viral infections. However, if for high concentrations the characteristic activity of the composite is somewhat lower than for GXM, then with an increase in dilution, the effectiveness of the composite increases significantly, up to a twofold excess. It has been reasonably suggested that the mechanism of antiviral action is associated with the formation of clusters of viruses that are no longer capable of infecting cells.

Water–gas shift reaction co-catalyzed by polyoxometalate (POM)–gold composites: the “magic” role of POMs

We computationally investigated the WGSR mechanism on POM supported gold and revealed the role of POMs. A direct pathway by formation of COOHads from the co-adsorbed H2O and CO is proposed.

Preparation and Electrochemical Properties of Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotube/Dextran/Nano-Gold Composites

Multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT)/dextran/nano-gold composite was prepared by chemical solution reaction. The average diameter of gold nanoparticles was around 15 nm. MWCNT/dextran/nano-gold composites were uniformly dispersed in aqueous solution as electrode materials. MWCNT/dextran/nano-gold composites exhibited excellent electrochemical property in [Fe(CN)6]3– /4– solution. Experimental results showed that the MWCNT/dextran/nano-gold composites with 50% MWCNTs presented obvious redox peak and low impedance and had good electrochemical response to Cu2+. The redox peak currents were linear while the concentration of copper ions ranged from 1× 10–2 to 1 × 10–4 M. The relationship between oxidation peak currents I (A) and Cu2+ concentration C (M) was: ipk (A) = 2.6207 × 10–6 + 43.91572 × 10–4 × C (M), and the limit of determination (LOD) of Cu2+ was 0.63 × 10–6 M, and linear coefficient was 0.9923.

Ionic Liquid-Polypyrrole-Gold Composites as Enhanced Enzyme Immobilization Platforms for Hydrogen Peroxide Sensing

In this work, three different aqueous solutions containing imidazole-based ILs with different alkyl chain lengths ([Cnmim]Br, n = 2, 6, 12) were adopted as the medium for the synthesis of ionic liquid-polypyrrole (IL-PPy) composites. Herein, the ILs undertook the roles of the pyrrole solvent, the media for emulsion polymerization of PPy and PPy dopants, respectively. The electrochemical performances of the three IL-PPy composites on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) were investigated by electrochemical experiments, which indicated that [C12mim]Br-PPy (C12-PPy) composites displayed better electrochemical performance due to their larger surface area and firmer immobilization on the GCE. Further, C12-PPy/GCE were decorated with Au microparticles by electrodeposition that can not only increase the conductivity, but also immobilize sufficient biomolecules on the electrode. Then, the obtained C12-PPy-Au/GCE with outstanding electrochemical performance was employed as a horseradish peroxidase (HRP) immobilization platform to fabricate a novel C12-PPy-Au-HRP/GCE biosensor for H2O2 detection. The results showed that the prepared C12-PPy-Au-HRP/GCE biosensor exhibited high sensitivity, fast response, and a wide detection range as well as low detection limit towards H2O2. This work not only provides an outstanding biomolecule immobilization matrix for the fabrication of highly sensitive biosensors, but also advances the understanding of the roles of ILs in improving the electrochemical performance of biosensors.

Characteristics of ultrasonication assisted assembly of gold nanoparticles in hydrazine reduced graphene oxide

Graphene gold composites were synthesized by ultrasonication assisted in situ reduction of diffused gold chloride within hydrazine reduced graphene oxide sheets without surface modification or functionalization with organic molecules.
