Abstract Abundant faults, long oil-bearing intervals (up to 500m), and diverse fluids including conventional oil and heavy oil, result in P oilfield became one of the most complex oil fields in the Bohai Bay. The main characters ofinitial development plan are directional well with commingle production, open hole completion, large draw down, high oil production rate, and reverse nine-point well pattern. At present, the oilfield has entered a stage of high water cut, with average water cut more than 85%. What can we do next, decommissioning or rebirthing? An integrated solution was proposed to redevelop the oilfield which focus on the layers’ subdivision, the fine description of the sand body,a large number of horizontal wells on the top of the water-flooded layer are used to tap the potential, increase the water injector to transform the stream lines and rebuild the reservoir pressure, and search for potential sand bodies to increase reserves.

Present communication aims to inspect the entropy optimization, heat and mass transport in Darcy-Forchheimer nanofluid flow surrounded by a non-linearly stretching surface. Navier-Stokes model based governing equations for non-Newtonian nanofluids having symmetric components in various terms are considered. Non-linear stretching is assumed to be the driving force whereas influence of thermal radiation, Brownian diffusion, dissipation and thermophoresis is considered. Importantly, entropy optimization is performed using second law of thermodynamics. Governing problems are converted into nonlinear ordinary problems (ODEs) using suitably adjusted transformations. RK-45 based built-in shooting mechanism is used to solve the problems. Final outcomes are plotted graphically. In addition to velocity, temperature, concentration and Bejan number, the stream lines, contour graphs and density graphs have been prepared. For their industrial and engineering importance, results for wall-drag force, heat flux (Nusselt) rate and mass flux (Sherwood) rate are also given in tabular data form. Outputs indicate that velocity reduces for Forchheimer number as well as for the porosity factor. However, a rise is noted in temperature distribution for elevated values of thermal radiation. Entropy optimization shows enhancement for larger values of temperature difference ratio. Skin-friction enhances for all relevant parameters involved in momentum equation.

AbstractThe design of Ranque–Hilsch vortex tube (RHVT) seems to be interesting for refrigeration and air conditioning purposes in industry. Improving thermal efficiency of the vortex tubes could increase the operability of these innovative facilities for a wider heat and cooling demand to this end; it is of an interest to understand the physical phenomena of thermal and flow patterns inside a vortex tube. In this work, the flow phenomena and the thermal energy transfer in RHVT are studied for three RHVT: straight, divergent, and convergent vortex tubes. A three-dimensional numerical analysis of swirling or vortex flow is performed, verified, and validated against previous experimental and numerical data reported in literature. The flow field and the temperature separation inside an RHVT for different configuration of straight, five angles of divergent hot tube (1 deg, 2 deg, 3 deg, 4 deg, and 6 deg) and five angle of convergent hot tube (0.5 deg, 0.8 deg, 1 deg, 1.5 deg, and 2 deg) are investigated. The thermal performance for all investigated RHVTs configuration is determined and quantitatively assessed via visualizing the stream lines for all three scenarios.

This work provides a numerical study of a polymer composite manufacturing by using liquid composite material molding. Simulation of resin flow into a porous media comprising fiber perform (reinforcement) inserted in a mold with preallocated ceramic inserts has been performed, using the Ansys FLUENT® software. Results of resin volumetric fraction, stream lines and pressure distribution inside the mold, and mass flow rate (inlet and outlet gates) of the resin, as a function of filling time, have been presented and discussed. Results show that the number of inserts affects the filling time whereas the distance between them has no influence in a process.

This report is using the finite element analysis method to investigate the performance of an airfoil (NACA 0100-35), which uses 2D computational fluid dynamics simulations based on ANSYS to find the lift and drag coefficients under different conditions. The boundary conditions are defined as follows: The density is 1kg/m3, gauge pressure is 0, and airflow velocity is 50m/s. Also the Reynolds number is considered during the simulation. As a result, the simulation shows the stalling points and efficiencies of the airfoil under different angles of attack. The simulation also plots the contours and stream lines in these conditions.

An asymmetrically heated (only one side of the duct is heated) solar air heater duct is numerically investigated using openFOAM to study the effect of passive turbulators (suspended cylinders) installed within the boundary layer close to the absorber plate to enhance heat transfer from it. Vortex flow is created behind the suspended cylinders, which disturbs the boundary layer and causes mixing of hot stream lines near the surface with relatively cold stream away from the absorber plate. Diameter of the suspended cylinders and its distance from the absorber plate is varied to study its effect on wall temperature of absorber plate in the turbulent flow regime.

Leveraging virtual reality (VR) technology to enhance engineering design reviews has been an area of significant interest for researchers since the advent of modern VR. The ability to interact meaningfully with 3D engineering models in these VR design reviews is an important, though often neglected, capability due to the difficulty of performing data translation between native CAD data and VR compatible file formats. An automated synchronization interface was developed between a VR design review environment and a commercial CAD package that stream-lines the data translation process and enables enhanced visualization and manipulation tools. User experiments were performed to explore the hypothesis that allowing users to perform CAD-like view transformations and geometric manipulations in VR design reviews improves design understanding and decision making. Analysis of the experiment results show that enhanced interaction tools provide statistically significant advantages over a baseline VR design review environment for complex 3D models.
