Characterization of Hermetically Sealed Metallic Feedthroughs through Injection-Molded Epoxy-Molding Compounds

Electronic devices and their associated sensors are exposed to increasing mechanical, thermal and chemical stress in modern applications. In many areas of application, the electronics are completely encapsulated with thermosets in a single process step using injection molding technology, especially with epoxy molding compounds (EMC). The implementation of the connection of complete systems for electrical access through a thermoset encapsulation is of particular importance. In practice, metal pin contacts are used for this purpose, which are encapsulated together with the complete system in a single injection molding process step. However, this procedure contains challenges because the interface between the metallic pins and the plastic represents a weak point for reliability. In order to investigate the reliability of the interface, in this study, metallic pin contacts made of copper-nickel-tin alloy (CuNiSn) and bronze (CuSn6) are encapsulated with standard EMC materials. The metal surfaces made of CuNiSn are further coated with silver (Ag) and tin (Sn). An injection molding tool to produce test specimens is designed and manufactured according to the design rules of EMC processing. The reliability of the metal-plastic interfaces are investigated by means of shear and leak tests. The results of the investigations show that the reliability of the metal-plastic joints can be increased by using different material combinations.

The plastic waste composite molding tool with coconut fiber is designed with the aim of converting HDPE plastic waste, especially drink bottle covers mixed with coconut fiber into a product in the form of a composite board (panel) that is more useful. The dimensions of the mold are 410 x 540 mm, the tool height is 850 mm, the width is 600 mm, the length is 600 mm, the temperature of the installed heating elements is around 200-250 degrees for 12 pieces, 220 V 1000 watts, while the press uses a 10 ton hydraulic jack. While the heating temperature for pressing the composite board is set in the range of 130 – 180 oC. From the results of the first printing press with iron plate material, the resulting product is sticky on the plate surface, the second test is coated with aluminum foil, the resulting product is less than perfect because the surface is uneven. , while the third test was coated with a stainless steel plate, the resulting product was better than the previous results. This research needs to be improved in order to assist the government in handling plastic waste. In addition, the results of products with this tool will help improve people's skills and improve the economy of the products of this tool.

Application of load-adapted hybrid textiles for a thermoplastic seat pass-through

The potential of a continuous non-crimp fabric (NCF) process with implemented offset technologies is demonstrated by a case study of a seat pass-through. Topology optimization with the relevant load cases and the construction of a load-adapted composite design with a weight saving of up to 18 percent is presented. Inverse draping identifies a two-dimensional development of the construction and prepares it for production based on the restrictions of textile technology. The downstream process capability of textiles produced in this way was investigated by impregnating heavy tows with polypropylene on laboratory scale and subsequent material characterization of the resulting laminates. The impregnation and consolidation of the seat pass-through is performed with load path adapted semi-finished products using novel variothermal, fluid-based pressing. This allows better control over the dynamic impregnation and unwanted fiber washing due to the large gradient of the areal weight. The final processing in injection molding tool of the reference component shows the applicability of the technology also in existing process chains and illustrates the potential of the consistent consideration of a load-adapted composite design in the development process.

Adaption of 3D Printing for Rapid Tooling

Over the course of the last decade 3D printing has become a more established technology in terms of prototype development (rapid prototyping). The current effort is focused on transferring this knowhow into a product driven approach in order to manufacture even small batch sizes more economic. In terms of this work, this idea is adapted for the development of injection molds (rapid manufacturing). Hereby, a hardened polymer is used to create a forming cavity instead of tool-steel. In order to fulfil the mechanical process requirements of micro injection molding such as form stability under temperature and pressure this cavity is nevertheless integrated into a metal housing. A first set of experiments has been carried out using this develop mold to verify the capabilities of the developed prototype as well as molding process. Based on these first results, an optimization is carried out to improve the next iteration of this molding tool.

Package and Process Design Augmentation of QFN Leadframe Device

Innovations and breakthroughs either through process, equipment or material is known in semiconductor industries as a positive option in overcoming the existing limitations and assembly handicaps. This presentation discusses the assembly methodology and packaging design of a quad-flat no-leads (QFN) devices using grid design molding tool and leadframe with exposed copper tie bar. Realization of this improved package design proposed the removal of mechanical blade as the primary cutting technique of separating the molded leadframes likewise assembly rejection and defect related to the mechanical blade material together with the processing limitations is mitigated as well. Furthermore, the improved design is realized to be a better alternative for manufacturing tighter clearances and unit-unit pitching requirement thus supports densified and critical package design.

Application of Knowledge of Fluid Mechanics in the Field of Design of Forming Tools

The paper deals with the construction of a hydrostatic molding tool. The theoretical part presents the necessary knowledge about forming in liquid media. The experimental part presents the construction of a forming tool for drawing using a liquid. The discussion deals with environmental constraints of production processes.

Batik is one of the Indonesia characteristics and cultural heritages. It is the Government’s responsibility to develop batik in accordance with the local characteristics of each region. At the same time, it is the opportunity for the batik producers around the archipelago to utilize the moment. The purpose of these activities are: the procurement of printing equipment and a table cap in accordance with the desired design pattern; skills training using the tool, with the direct learning methods applied; training and helping for business management and simple bookkeeping; assisting the marketing process through training techniques and marketing strategy; making the media marketing.The applied methods are: identifying the problem and needed equipment, such as: a molding tool/ stamp, tasting table for batik, stove to the tasting table, printer wok batik; skills training in using the tools, forming the simple bookkeeping, making media marketing. The taken approach is a direct method of learning and working with participatory methods.Results and implications: the procurement of 4 printing tools following the pattern of SMEs, provision of 2 sets consisting of: Tables stove, printer wok, gas stove, regulator, gas hose, 12 Kg LPG Tube, a marketing tool. They have been handed over to the SMEs. It had been done the technical training activities and business management training and simple bookkeeping.
