Mobile Based Sharing Class Presentation Display Management

In this paper, we present an application that helps the teachers in identifying slow learners in a class; similarly, the system will help slow learners cope up with their fast learner peers. Specifically, we evaluated the development of the Mobile-based Sharing Presentation Display Management to assist the teachers in identifying students that don’t understand the topic during lectures. Furthermore, the system automatically collects the students’ attendance, allows the learners to interact with each other, learners can ask questions through a messaging facility, while anonymous to their classmates they can inform the teacher to discuss the topic further presented in the current slide or to give them some time to process the item. Developed using open source technologies, the system can run on multiple platforms, including Android and Windows. Few issues arise during the testing; however, findings revealed that both students and teacher perceive the use of the system positively, and they find it very advantageous to improve their performance in the class.

“Wisely, and slow. They stumble that run fast”: Learner-Friendly Shakespeare in an EFL Classroom

This paper discusses a learner-friendly and student-centred approach to introducing Shakespeare for less advanced English language learners in the university-level EFL classroom. Shakespeare becomes welcome material when the input is comprehensible and enjoyable. In this light, the teaching should first start with the story rather than the language. After hooking students by recounting stories from Shakespeare, the teacher needs to familiarise them with the authentic language through activities carefully designed to initiate them into the language. In approaching the content of Shakespeare’s plays, the students are asked to relate themselves to the world of Shakespeare through active methods advanced by the RSC and the world that students already know. Raising language awareness in learners rather than being taught the language, the students become less frustrated while learning to appreciate Shakespeare.

SOAL MATEMATIKA MODEL PISA: ALTERNATIF MATERI PROGRAM PENGAYAAN

In a learning process, each students has different level of capability in mastering the teaching materials. For those who belong to the fast learner group and are able to achieve mastery learning earlier, ideally they need an additional learning activities to develop their skills more optimally. One of such learning activities is commonly known as the enrichment programs. Then, one of the learning challenges that can be applied in this enrichment program is proposing problem solving tasks to foster students' high order thinking skills. Based on the characteristics, it is revealed that PISA problems or PISA-like tasks has characteristics that are very in accordance with the characteristics of the rocemmenced enrichment problems. So that is why PISA problems or PISA-like tasks could be highly regarded as the enrichment tasks for students who have achieved early learning completeness. PISA mathematics problems or PISA-like mathematics tasks is expected to be able to optimize students 'mathematical literacy skills through activation of basic mathematical abilities, which in turn can help the success of enrichment programs in developing students' skills more optimally.

RHETORICAL PATTERN IN ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY WRITING BY EFL STUDENTS OF IAIN SURAKARTA

This study reports pattern of rhetoric in argumentative essay of academic writing accros three achievement categories: fast learner, medium learner, and slow learner. Descriptive correlation between the pattern of the rhetoric and overall quality of academic writing was also identified. This research was descriptive study using content analysis approach. The research subjects were 3 classes of semester VII EFL student out of 9 classes selected in purposive sampling. Pattern of rhetoric in students work was analyzed in seven categories: thesis statement, reservation, background information, rational appeal, affective appeal, conclusion, and hesitation. ESL composition profile by Jacobs was employed to measure students’ academic argumentative essay. The finding showed that rhetoric pattern categories in three different writing achievers was failed to use. However, strong connectivity between pattern of the seven rhetoric categories and overall quality of academic writing across level of achievement was significantly linked.

Redefining the Role of Teachers in the Digital Era

This paper deals with key roles required for a teacher in new digital era. Teachers’ role in the 21st century has become more complex in the present changing world here knowledge is almost unlimited. Teachers are expected to become technologically oriented and responsible not only for their teaching but also for their students’ learning. Today teachers are required to be facilitators helping learners to make judgements about the quality and validity of new sources and knowledge, be open-minded and critical independent professionals, be active co-operators, collaborators, and mediators between learners and what they need to know, and providers to scaffold understanding. In this digital era, teachers’ role has shifted from mere preacher to the manager of students social and emotions behaviours; mentor for their learning and over-all development as a balanced citizen; motivator for slow learner and a fast learner in digital environment. He has to keep watch on the time spent by learners for their proper time management which make certain that the learner utilize optimum e-resources. He has to address social and emotional issues that affect learners’ learning, and be ready to make changes when their learning stalls.
