ABSTRACT Objectives To estimate eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA) prevalence and disease burden in patients with newly diagnosed EGPA in Japan. Methods This retrospective descriptive cohort study (GSK ID: 209751, HO-18-19652) used administrative claim data from patients (aged ≤74 years) with EGPA (study period: January 1, 2005–December 31, 2017), identified from their first ICD-10 code for EGPA (index). Data were examined during the 12 months before (baseline) and 12 months following the index date (follow-up). EGPA prevalence, respiratory comorbidities, all-cause healthcare utilization, and oral corticosteroid (OCS) use were assessed. Results EGPA prevalence (95%CI) increased from 4.2 (0,23.7)/million people (2005) to 38.0 (31.8,45.1)/million people (2017), was generally more common in females versus males, and increased with age. Of the 45 patients with newly diagnosed EGPA, 57.8% had acute bronchitis and 42.2% had upper respiratory tract infections during baseline. During follow-up, 60.0% of patients were hospitalized at least once and 77.8% used OCS (OCS dependent [≥80% of days]: 73.1%). Conclusions In Japan, EGPA prevalence increased over time, was generally more common in females, and increased with patient age. EGPA burden was high; respiratory comorbidities were common, and most patients required hospitalization and OCS use. Our data suggest additional EGPA treatment options are needed.

Routinely collected electronic healthcare data (rcEHD) have a tremendous potential for enriching pre-marketing evidence on target- and immunotherapies used to treat lung cancer (LC). A scoping review was performed to provide a structured overview of available rcEHD-based studies on this topic and to support the execution of future research by facilitating access to pertinent literature both for study design and benchmarking. Eligible studies published between 2016 and 2020 in PubMed and ISI Web of Science were searched. Data source and study characteristics, as well as evidence on drug utilization and survival were extracted. Thirty-two studies were included. Twenty-six studies used North American data, while three used European data only. Thirteen studies linked ≥1 data source types among administrative/claims data, cancer registries and medical/health records. Twenty-nine studies retrieved cancer-related information from medical records/cancer registries and 31 studies retrieved information on drug utilization or survival from medical records or administrative/claim data. Most part of studies concerned non-small-cell-LC patients (29 out of 32) while none focused on small-cell-LC. Study cohorts ranged between 85 to 81,983 patients. Only two studies described first-line utilization of immunotherapies. Results from this review will serve as a starting point for the execution of future rcEHD-based studies on innovative LC pharmacotherapies.

ABSTRACT Introduction The polytrauma clinical triad (PCT), encompassing traumatic brain injury, PTSD, and chronic pain, has been identified as a significant concern in the Military Health System (MHS). Conditions in this triad mutually reinforce one another and can pose a significant challenge to treatment for patients and providers. Polytrauma clinical triad has previously been studied in deployed veterans but remains understudied in the active duty military population. Therefore, this novel study seeks to determine the prevalence of PCT among active duty service members and to identify the subpopulations most at risk for PCT. Materials and Methods This cross-section study used the MHS Data Repository in order to retrospectively review all administrative claim data for active duty service members within the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps from fiscal years 2010 to 2015. Specific ICD-9 codes were extracted that correlated with traumatic brain injury, PTSD, and chronic pain to determine the risk of PCT. We used logistic regression to compare individuals presenting with the PCT conditions to those service members without any of the PCT diagnoses codes. Results The study identified 2,441,698 active duty service members eligible for inclusion. The prevalence of all three conditions of PCT was 5.99 per 1,000 patients. Patients with PCT were most likely to be 20–29 years old (52.15%), male (89.83%), White (59.07%), married (64.18%), Junior Enlisted (55.27%), and serving in the Army (74.71%). Conclusion This study is the first to identify the risk of PCT in the active duty military population. Awareness of the risk and subsequent prompt identification of the triad will enable treatment through an integrated, team approach, which should alleviate potential patient suffering and improve the efficiency of care and readiness of service members.
