Microfiche was a common format used in microforms reproductions of documents, extensively used for archival storage before the move to digital formats. While contemporary documents are still available for digitization, others from older historical periods are no longer physically accessible for various reasons. In some cases, their microfiche copies are available, making microfiche digitization a must. However, a microfiche reader is not always available and, even then, it is a machine made for the purpose of reading and not for data collection. In this work, the performance two imaging devices are evaluated as alternatives to the traditional microfiche reader, by means of optical character recognition (OCR). Results show that this alternative surpasses the performance of a microfiche reader in terms of text legibility.

The paper, "The Edward Burtynsky Archive" is part of the thesis project submitted by Paul Sergeant in the partial fulfillment of the Master's Degree in Photographic Preservation and Collections Management at Ryerson University in Toronto, Ontario and George Eastman House International Museum of Photography and Film in Rochester, NY, in 2010. The author proposes the creation of a personal archive/repository of photographic prints for Canadian photographer Edward Burtynsky. This guide will describe archival methods for the storage of 1000-1500 large format colour photographs ranging in size from 27" x 34" to 60" x 70". The goal of this project is to produce a resource for present and future researchers concerned with the preservation of colour photography. Through research on the preservation of colour photography and archival storage standards, I will locate a viable space, design a model for storage, source materials, and construct the archive/repository by September 1, 2010.

In this article, the subject of research is the sub-process of controlling the assignment of requisites to the electronic document of the process of registration and preparation of completed electronic documents for transfer to archival storage in the electronic document management system. The aim of the research is to develop a method for automatic control of the assignment of details to a completed electronic document. In the course of the study, the requirements of regulatory legal acts of federal executive bodies in the field of office work and archiving were analyzed, in terms of the registration of electronic files and their preparation for transfer to archival storage, scientific publications covering the issues of automation of office work in electronic office systems. A functional model was built for the process of control of registration and preparation for the delivery of electronic files for archival storage using the IDEF 0 methodology in a model for performing the sub-process of assigning details to a completed electronic document of the process of controlling registration and preparation for the delivery of electronic documents using the theory of logic (predicate logic). A method has been developed for automatic control of the assignment of requisites to a completed electronic case, which can be used in the design of advanced electronic document management systems, as well as modernization of existing ones by creating software modules that implement the functions of automatic control of the registration of completed electronic cases. This method makes it possible to increase the efficiency of the process of preparing completed electronic files for transfer to archival storage.

The implementation of the research concept was facilitated by historical-comparative, comparative, analytical research methods. The results achieved in the process of analyzing the documents of the archival storage of the Russian State Historical Archive of the Far East indicate the pragmatic approach of the provisional Siberian governments to issues of ideology, including religious.
