The paper aims to examine images of the Basilisk in Polish children’s and young adult literature. It also compares the monster’s image known from traditional urban legends with its depictions in their postmodern versions. In the original variants of the legends, this creature takes various forms — supposed to be a monster that hatches from the egg laid by a rooster, it is often described as an animal the size of a hen, with a turkey neck and head and a frog’s eyes; partially a cock, partially a reptile, etc. The hybrid image of the Basilisk allows the elements of its characteristics to be used in later versions of the story and its re-workings. The analysis herein focuses on Legendy Warszawskie. Antologia [Warsaw Legends: An Anthology] (2016) which presents six versions of the Basilisk’s legend. These texts are juxtaposed with the project “Legends of Poland” by Allegro (e-book and a short movie Operacja Bazyliszek [Operation Basilisk]), as well as with the novel Felix, Net i Nika oraz Pułapka Nieśmiertelności [Felix, Net and Nika and the Trap of Immortality] (2007) by Rafał Kosik, and Księga Potworów [The Book of Monsters] (2016) by Michał Rusinek. The author concludes that the Basilisk may be seen as a transfictional figure that transcends the boundaries of the original storyworld, which shows that — as many other legendary monsters — it should be seen not as a past phenomenon, but rather as something that still “lives” in culture and constantly evolves.

PEMBUATAN SHORT MOVIE EDUKASI COVID-19 MENGGUNAKAN BAHASA SASAK UNTUK MASYARAKAT DI PULAU LOMBOK

ABSTRAKDesa Suradadi merupakan sebuah desa yang terletak di Kecamatan Terara Kabupaten Lombok Timur. Karena letaknya yang termasuk didaerah pedesaan, warga desa Suradadi lebih banyak menggunakan bahasa daerah yakni bahasa sasak dalam kegiatan sehari-harinya dan tidak sedikit dari warga desa Suradadi yang tidak memahami bahasa Indonesia. Banyak pendapat yang mengatakan bahwa bahasa yang digunakan oleh pemerintah terkait edukasi Covid-19 kepada masyarakat masih menggunakan bahasa yang kurang dipahami oleh awam terlebih yang berada di daerah. Bahasa yang disampaikan oleh pemerintah masih menyasar pada masyarakat perkotaan terdidik yang berasal dari kelas menengah. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk membuat short video edukasi Covid-19 berbahasa Sasak dengan melibatkan warga Desa Suradadi. Desa Suradadi merupakan wilayah dengan angka kejadian nol Covid-19. Keberhasilan ini menjadi dasar pemilihan desa Suradadi sebagai pilot project pembuatan short movie edukasi Covid-19 berbahasa Sasak. Short movie ini akan menjadi media sosialisasi dan informasi Covid-19 serta upaya-upaya pencegahan dan pengendalian Covid-19 di kalangan masyarakat. Sasaran short movie ini ialah masyarakat di pulau Lombok yang kurang paham bahkan tidak mengerti Bahasa Indonesia. Short movie edukasi Covid-19 yang diberi judul “ITE PEDULI” ini telah disebarluaskan melalui akun youtube FIK UMMAT agar bisa dilihat oleh masyarakat. Harapannya setelah video ini disaksikan, masyarakat akan lebih memahami pentingnya penerapan protokol kesehatan untuk memutus rantai penyebaran covid-19. It is located in a rural area so that Suradadi villagers use more of the regional language, namely the Sasak language in their daily activities and not a few of the Suradadi villagers who do not understand Bahasa Indonesia. There are many opinions state that the language used by the government regarding Covid-19 education for the public still uses language that is not understood by the layman, especially those in the regions. The language spoken by the government is still targeting educated urban communities who come from the middle class. This activity aimed to make a covid-19 educational short movie in Sasak language by involving the residents of Suradadi Village. Suradadi Village is an area with zero Covid-19 incidence. This success became the basis for choosing Suradadi village as a pilot project for making of Covid-19 educational short movie in Sasak language. This short movie will serve as a media for socializing and informing Covid-19 as well as efforts to prevent and control Covid-19 in the society. The target of this short movie is the people on the Lombok Island who do not even understand Bahasa Indonesia. The covid-19 educational short movie entitled "ITE PEDULI" has been disseminated through the FIK UMMAT youtube account so that it can be seen by the public. After watching this video, the public will more understand the importance of application health protocols to break the chain of spread of COVID-19. Implicatures in Altfatah Nando’s Short Movie Terlanjur Mencinta

YouTube has been flooded with contents within a movie genre, mostly the products by junior creators. It is therefore important to appreciate their works to maintain their creativities and innovations. Positive responses to such literary works are also required to improve their quality writing. The current study was aimed at identifying and at the same time construing the implicatures found in each act of the movie entitled “Terlanjur Mencinta” directed by Alfatah Nando. George Yule’s pragmatic theory (1996) was used in relation to implicatures caused by conversational maxims (Grice, 1975) supported by linguistic evidence-based contextual interpretation, namely utterances and stage directions. Findings show that generalized conversational implicatures were identified, namely 12 implicatures in which 42% was due to violation of manner maxim, 33% attributed to that of relation maxim, 17% due to that of quantity maxim, and 8% due to that of quality maxim. In addition, 4 conventional implicatures were found in the monologue. The study concludes that the implicatures can be easily understood through the contexts of situations. It is recommended that future researchers can formulate the ideal proportion and distribution of implicatures in a particular text in terms of quality, employing comparative rhetoric and a special research instrument.

‘Tilik’: A Study of Power Among Javanese Women Through Gossip

Gossip plays a crucial part in our communicative and social behavior as it is thought to be a manifestation of any ‘ordinary’ everyday life. Interestingly, the portrayal of gossip in Javanese culture can be found in the recent viral short movie Tilik (The Ladies on Top). Unfortunately, contemporary interpretations and discussions about Bu Tejo often focus only on what gossip is about and its negative effect on the image of women. None of them observed the relation between gossip and power. Thus, the study aims to analyze gossip in Tilik movie by using the concept of power among Javanese women. The writer used the qualitative method. The writer focused on the theory of gossip and power; and used the concept of power among Javanese women proposed by Handayani and Novianto. This research revealed that gossip in Tilik becomes the weapon of choice in the female arsenal due to the rivalry between Bu Tejo and Dian. Bu Tejo’s negative attitude towards Dian can be seen as a political tactic for Javanese women, and the personal is political. Lastly, the acts of gossiping in the movie match with the concept of how Javanese women play the game of power through ­srawung (socialization).

REPRESENTATION OF JEALOUSY IN SHORT MOVIE “THE NEIGHBORS’ WINDOW”

Short films are often underestimated for their lack of duration. People think that the short duration will affect to how the messages are conveyed. However, short films are now very popular. There is even a category of best short film in Academy Awards, or well-known as Oscars. The Neighbors’ Window is one of many Oscars’ winners for best short film. This research aims to find out how jealousy is represented in the short film The Neighbors’ Window by Marshall Curry. This method of this research uses a theory from Saussure called semiotics. This research also uses an approach of Representation theory by Mary Beltran and Stuart Hall. Most of the data in this article is taken from scenes in the short film which later are connected with the theories. This result of this research shows that the important scenes presented in this movie are representation of Jealousy towards each character. This research shows that the movie is about jealousy presented by the symbols in the movie using some analytical research by applying the two theories.

Perancangan Film Pendek “Simbah” sebagai Media Pembelajaran pada Mata Kuliah Audio Visual

AbstrakPenelitian ini membahas tentang perancangan film pendek dengan judul “Simbah” sebagai salah satu media yang dapat digunakan sebagai media pembelajaran mata kuliah Audio Visual pada mahasiswa semester 5. Film ini dibuat sebagai media untuk memberikan pendidikan moral kepada mahasiswa. Film ‘Simbah’ berisi nilai-nilai moral untuk orang dewasa yang sangat penting untuk dikenalkan pada mahasiswa. Salah satu aspek dari nilai-nilai moral dalam film tersebut adalah keinginan yang perlu dikendalikan. Keinginan merupakan salah satu sifat dasar yang dimiliki manusia dan harus dikendalikan sejak usia muda. Salah satu strategi yang dapat digunakan pendidik untuk menanamkan nilai tersebut adalah dengan media audio visual berupa film pendek. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif karena dapat mengungkapkan aspek-aspek yang harus ditekankan dalam sebuah film pendek, sehingga penanaman nilai bahwa keinginan perlu dikendalikan dapat dilakukan. Sebagai hasilnya film pendek ‘Simbah’ menjadi salah satu media pembelajaran yang menarik dan dapat mengarahkan serta membuat mahasiswa mengerti dengan latar belakang budaya. Selain itu sinematografi film ‘Simbah’ memudahkan mahasiswa untuk memahami alur cerita dan menjadi referensi dalam perancangan mata kuliah audio visual. This short movie was made as a medium to provide moral education for students. 'Simbah' contains moral values for adults that are very important to introduce to students. One aspect of the moral values in the movie is the desire that needs to control. Desire is one of the primary human traits and must restrain from a young age. One strategy that educators can use to instill these values is with audio-visual media in the form of short movie. The method used in this study is qualitative because it can reveal aspects that must be emphasized in a short film so that the inculcation of the value that desires need to control can be carried out. As a result, the short movie 'Simbah' became one of the interesting learning media and could direct students to understand the cultural background. In addition, the cinematography of the 'Simbah' movie makes it easier for students to understand the storyline and becomes a reference in making short films in audio visual courses. Kajian Sinematografi Film Pendek “Jakarta Lockdown” Oleh Cameo Project

Pada awal 2020, pandemi virus corona (Covid-19) telah menggoncangkan umat manusia diseluruh dunia. Dalam menghadapi penyebaran virus corona ke seluruh penjuru dunia, membuat pemerintah melakukan reaksi cepat sosialisasi pencegahan terhadap masyarakat. Pemerintah berinisiatif untuk melakukan kebijakan lockdown selama beberapa waktu yang ditentukan guna mengantisipasi penularan wabah virus corona. Oleh karena itu penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisa film pendek “Jakarta Lockdown (SHORT MOVIE) #DiRumahAja #SamaSaya” yang diproduksi oleh Cameo Project guna menumbuhkan kesadaran masyarakat dalam menghadapi virus corona. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif yang mengacu pada metode prinsip angle dan shot sinematografi. Hasil penelitian menyatakan bahwa kebijakan pemerintah pada saat ini memberikan pengaruh kepada masyarakat. Terlihat warga di Indonesia yang mata pencahariannya sebagai para pekerja mengalami kehilangan penghasilan mereka dan masyarakat Indonesia mengalami kekhawatiran yang berlebihan terhadap virus corona, sehingga masyarakat menimbun bahan-bahan pokok untuk kehidupan sehari-hari selama masa pandemi. Karena pemerintah harus memfasilitasi segala kebutuhan masyarakat selama kebijakan lockdown diterapkan oleh pemerintah.

Elementary Teacher Education Students’ Short Story Writing Skills through Creative Writing Learning for Short Movie Making

Short story writing skill (short stories) for elementary teacher education students at Cimahi City campus is one of the productive language skills that are said to be still very difficult, considering the skill to write requires multi skills that involve cognitive skills, cognitive meta, experience, imagination, and the preparation of words and sentences accordingly. Hence, this digital era should be able to make students skilled in utilizing digital devices and products as a medium that helps facilitating them in honing their short story writing skills, one of which is through digital products in the form of short movies. The purpose of this research is to know and elaborate the elementary teacher education students’ skills to write short stories of through short movie making activities in creative writing. This study employs descriptive qualitative through triangulation of data obtained from observations, tests, questionnaires, and documentation. The results showed the students’ skills to write short stories through short movie making activities, it was obtained based on the indicators of short story writing that had been achieved, namely: the suitability of story content, story development creativity, presentation of the plot, characters, point of view, diction, plot, and writing spelling.

Short Movie Baitul Maal Kebonwage untuk Bangun Kesadaran Masyarakat Desa dalam Membayar Zakat

LazisMu Bandongan memiliki program dalam mengenalkan praktik baik pengelolaan zakat yang mengakar di masyarakat. Salah satunya adalah praktik Baitul Maal Kebonwage, yang merupakan binaan LazisMu Bandongan. Kegiatan pengabdian ini ditujukan mendukung LazisMu Bandongan dalam pembuatan short movie Baitul Maal Kebonwage. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan dalam beberapa tahapan, yaitu Forum Group Discussion (FGD), survei lokasi, dokumentasi, editing, dan finishing. Kegiatan pengabdian ini menghasilkan produk promosi digital berupa short movie Baitul Maal Kebonwage. Pihak LazisMu telah menerima dan menyatakan kepuasan terhadap produk yang dihasilkan. Melalui video profil tersebut diharapkan dapat menginspirasi masyarakat luas tentang manfaat Baitul Maal dan menyadarkan masyarakat tentang arti penting berzakat. Dengan demikian, konsep Baitul Maal dapat direplikasi di daerah lain dan masyarakat yang mampu secara syariat semakin tergerak hatinya untuk membayar zakat, baik melalui Baitul Maal maupun Lembaga zakat lainnya.

Candomblé e Cinema de Animação: Estratégias de resistência e territorialidade

The majority of the knowledge and philosophy of African roots find a great discrimination in public places in Brazil, rarely we see schools take in consideration those questions, popular knowledge and ways of living of those who follow those religions of African roots. Take in account that reality and seeking for changing it, the members of Abassá of goddess Òsùn of Idjemim, Paulo Afonso - BA, Bahia took the initiative of producing an animated stop motion movie about the Òrìṣà Òsùn. In this short motion “Òpárà de Òsùn: when everything is born” (2018) we can see the language of animation cinema being used to tell stories of Òrìṣàs like of a way clamouring the religiosity from people from traditional places and also a way of facing religious racism. In this work, we will present the process of production of a short motion, that took in consideration the bio system Caatinga and of the Sao Francisco river as a scenery of some events, staring from the sonorities and images produced by the people in the Terreiro and including the poetic language (could it be sounding and visual or spoken). From those elements, we reflect about the role played by this short movie on the empowerment of children and territorially as didactic and educative space.
