Abstract Various kinds of collaborative learning can be applied in teaching English. One of them is a partner reading strategy which allows the students to read in pairs. This research aimed at exploring the significant enhancement of partner reading strategy on the eighth-grade students` reading habit and their reading comprehension. The quasi-experimental design was used in order to gather the data and the two classes were selected through cluster random sampling as the experimental and control group. The independent sample t-test result indicated that the comparison of students` reading habit and reading comprehension in the experimental and control group with sig. (2-tailed) or p-value (0.00) was less than the alpha value (0.05). It can be concluded that the use of partner reading strategy significantly enhanced the eighth-grade students` reading habit and their reading comprehension. The partner reading strategy made the teaching and learning process more joyful and meaningful so that it can be applied as one of the activities to promote reading habit and reading comprehension.

Partner Reading is a cooperative learning strategy in which two students work together to read an assigned text. This leads the students to feel free to express their prior knowledge during the discussion with their pair. This study examined the effect of Partner Reading on students' reading comprehension. This research was an experimental study with one group pre-test and post-test design. The research was conducted at one of MTs in West Lombok. The independent variable of this research was a teaching strategy that is partner reading. Students' reading comprehension was considered as a dependent variable. This research used all of the population as the sample. The research was analyzed through a t-test with SPSS 21 software. The research reveals that teaching strategies used after treatment affect significantly on the students' reading comprehension as the sig- 2 tailed shows that it was less than 0.000 at the level of significance 0.05 and N=24. It can be concluded that partner reading affects students' reading comprehension.

This research is conducted in investigating whether Partner Reading Strategy affects on students’ Reading Comprehension ability in descriptive text. The problem of this research is “What is the effect of Partner Reading strategy significantly for students’ reading comprehension at grade eight of SMP N7 Pematangsiantar?”. To solve the problem of this research, the researchers used related theories ; Grellet (1997), Nunan (1991), Melanie and Paula (2008) and Patel, Jain (2008), Pammun (2017), Snow et al (2002), Dorn and Soffos (2005 ) and Grade (2014). This research was done in SMP N 7 Pematangsiantar. In this research, the researchers conducted an experimental quantitative research. The population of this research was the eight grade of SMP N 7Pematangsiantar The samples of this research were two classes, they were 62students The first class was 31 students of experimental class who had been taught by Partner Reading Strategy and the second was 31 students of control group who had been taught by conventional method. The instrument for collecting the data was 20 items of multiple choice test. The data were analyzed by using t-test formula in order to see whether Partner Reading Strategy significantly affect on students’ reading comprehension or not. The total score of pre-test in control group is 1065, mean 34.35 and the total score of post-test in control group is 1355, mean is 45,16, meanwhile the total score of pre-test in experimental group is1525, mean is 49.19 and the total score of post-test in experimental group is 2470, mean is79.67. The finding indicates that the value of t-test exceeds the value of t-table (8.77> 1,67), at the level of significant p = 0,05 and the degree freedom df= 60. The finding implies that the alternative hypo research is accepted. In other words, there is a significant effect of Partner Reading Strategy on the students reading comprehension.

This research aimed to investigate whether the students who were taught using Partner Reading Strategy had better reading comprehension achievement than those who were not. The method used was quasi-experimental. The sample of this study was 70 tenth graders involved experimental group (class X MIPA 2) and control group (class X MIPA 3). Each group consisted of 35 students. The written test in the form of multiplechoice was administered to get data collection. Before giving the test, the test was tried out to non-samples students of the eighth-grade students of SMA Negeri 4 Kayuagung class X MIPA 1 to check the validity and reliability of the test. The data were analyzed using t-test. The result of the t-test was significant at p<0.05 with df = 68, the critical value of ttable = 1.995. Since the value of tobtained (9.304) was higher than the critical value of ttable = (1.995), Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. It means that the students who were taught using Partner Reading Strategy had comprehension in reading that made their reading comprehension achievement improve better and that those who were not.

Peer tutoring has proven to be an effective method for teaching reading. In this experiment 106 2nd grade students received nine sessions of the LEO-PAR-D peer tutoring program. Participants performed reciprocal tutoring, supervising partner reading, asking questions and giving points for reading or responding correctly. In addition, they made predictions and answared to questions about the texts. The reading level was assessed before and after intervention with the tests ACL-2, TECLE and PEES. In all three cases there was a significant improvement. The effect size was small for reading comprehension and moderate for reading efficiency. The results of this experiment indicate that the LEO-PAR-D program could be useful in improving some aspects of reading, therefore, further investigation is warranted to evaluate the program effectiveness with a stronger design.

This research aimed to find the use of Patterned Partner Reading strategy improve the students reading comprehension at the SMP Muhammadiyah Limbung. The researcher used A Classroom Action Research (CAR). The researcher had conducted two cycles, where each cycle consisted of four meetings. This classroom action research was one at SMP Muhammadiyah Limbung. As subject in this research was the second class with students’ number as about 30 students consist of 7 man and 23 women. The instruments were observation sheet and test sheet. The research findings indicated that the application of patterned partner reading strategy was effective and significant in improving the students’ reading skill especially students’ reading comprehension. It was proved that the mean score of D-Test was 60.8, Cycle I 75.5 and after conducted Cycle II improved to 93 And based of mean score of students’ reading comprehension during two cycle researcher found percentage improvement that is from D-Test to Cycle I is 24.17% and from Cycle I to Cycle II is 23.17 and D-Test to Cycle II 52.96%. It means that there was the improvement of students’ reading comprehension on learning process.
