INDOOR RADON-222 CONCENTRATION MEASUREMENTS AT FACULTY OF EDUCATION, YAFEA, ADEN UNIVERSITY, YEMEN, USING CR-39 NUCLEAR TRACK DETECTOR

In this study, the activity concentration of indoor radon-222, annual effective dose, exhalation rate of radon, and relative risk of lung cancer are reported for different indoor buildings (students' dorms, teachers' dorms, offices, laboratories, library, lecture halls, and materials store) in Faculty of Education, Yafea, Aden University, Yemen. Sealed-can technique based on CR-39 nuclear tracks detector was distributed to radon gas survey. Twenty six radon detectors were mounted in seven buildings. The Radon measurements were performed for 90 days between December 2020 and March 2021. The results showed that the radon concentration ranges from 23,18 Bq m-3 to 66.49 Bq m-3 with an average value 35.86 Bq m-3, the annual effective dose ranges from 0.6 mSv y-1 to 1.639 mSv y-1 with an average value 0.979 mSv y-1, the exhalation rate ranges from 10.03 m Bq m-2 h-1 to 28.50 mBq m-2 h-1 with an average value 15.68 mBq m-2 h-1 and relative risk of lung cancer ranges from 1.02 to 1.06 with an average value 1.03. A strong correlation coefficient has been observed between radon concentration and radon exhalation rate. All of the values revealed in the study were of nominal state (that is less than allowed global values) and thus have no risk for the population living in these buildings.

Measurement of cross-sections for charge pickup by 12C on elemental targets at 290MeV/n

The nuclear charge pickup cross-sections of [Formula: see text]C on CH2, C, Al, Cu and Pb targets at the highest energy of 288[Formula: see text]MeV/n were investigated using CR-39 nuclear track detector. The cross-section for H was calculated from those measured on C and CH2 targets. The dependence of charge pickup cross-section on target mass was investigated. It was found that the nuclear charge pickup cross-section of [Formula: see text]C at our studied beam energies seems to exponentially depend on the target mass with the fitting exponent [Formula: see text], which can be well explained by the peripheral and the surface collisions of the nuclear charge pickup reactions.

ESTIMATION THE CONCENTRATION OF URANIUM IN THE SEDIMENTS OF THE SOUTHERN PART OF THE SHATT AL-ARAB RIVER, SOUTH OF BASRAH GOVERNORATE USING SSNTDS(CR-39)TECHNIQUES

The present work deals with measuring concentrations of uranium in 20 samples taken from sediments of different sites of southern Shatt al-Arab located south of Basra Governorate Located in the southern part of Iraq, using a uranium fission fragment U-235 (n-f), obtained by the bombardment of U-235 with thermal neutrons. Irradiation was performed, then chemical etching was performed, and then the number of tracks was counted using a microscope. The results computed through the solid state nuclear track detector (SSNTDs) techniques For 20 samples were taken from 20 different sediment sites in the southern part of the Shatt al-ArabIn the southern part of Basra Governorate, southern Iraqindicated that the uranium concentrations in the study area ranged between 1.886 ppm near Al-Shahiniya Road and 3.290 ppm at the AL-Dora 2 site. The t results of the study have shown that the uranium concentrations in the studied surface soil samples were less than the allowed value (11.7 ppm) recommended by UNSCEAR, 1993.

Measuring the Pollution Level with Uranium and Radon in the Soil of Some Areas Inside Baghdad University Campus-AL-Jadiriyah

In present study, the technique was used, including nuclear track detector type (CR-39), for appreciative concentrations uranium and radon in soil samples from Baghdad University Campus-AL-Jadiriyah utilizing a prolonged -term with a solid-state nuclear path sensor, a technique for charged particles has been developed., the radon concentrations, effective dose rate and uranium concentrations have measured in soil samples. Eight various venues from soil Baghdad University Campus have appointed. The results indicated variant values about uranium and radon concentrations, the average value for radon gas, effective dose rate and uranium concentrations was found to be 281.59 Bq/cm3, 7.09 mSv/y and 0.01 Bq/mm-2 respectively. All results appeared that concentrations for radon and uranium in soil are infra the permitted limit from (ICRP) agency which are 1100 Bq/m3 and 11.7 (mg. Kg- 1) ppm respectively. All results were comparison with the domestic and worldwide results.

Experimental Investigation to Determine the Concentration of Radon in Cosmetics Using a Nuclear Track Detector (CR-39)

The nuclear track detector CR-39 is used in the detection of radon gas concentration in selected samples of cosmetics in the local market. Products of wide use are selected and employed in the current study. Six types of cosmetic products of different origins are tested by taking equivalent quantities of these products and putting them in plastic boxes. The detector is left with the samples for a period of 50 days. In addition to measuring the rate of surface evaporation of radon gas, measurements of the annual equivalent dose of radon gas are also carried out. The results show that the highest concentration of radon gas is in Charcoal Facial SCRuB (American origin) and it is equal to 0.0795 Bq/m3, whereas the lowest one in "bb" cream basis (5 in 1) is equal to 0.0355 Bq/m3. Based on specific international organizations and agencies, the concentration of radon in the samples under consideration is within the acceptable limits.
