Purpose This paper aims to review the latest management developments across the globe and pinpoint practical implications from cutting-edge research and case studies. Design/methodology/approach This briefing is prepared by an independent writer who adds their own impartial comments and places the articles in context. Findings This research paper determines how service supply chains can create value with big data, by building cross-departmental processes. Based on the study’s results, the critical alignment capabilities for successful big data value creation are: IT-process alignment; IT-performance alignment; performance-process alignment; human-IT alignment; and human-process alignment. Additionally, overarching and underlying strategic and organizational alignment capabilities also impacted this value creation. The human impact on employees of big data-led process creation shouldn’t be underestimated. Information technology (IT) is a competitive path and offers the entrepreneurial opportunity of accumulating business knowledge in capturing consumer behavior. This study employed a conceptual framework to investigate the information processing facet of IT–business alignment under the impact mechanism of transactional leadership in the manufacturing sector of Yunnan Province, China. Specifically, organization culture is taken as a moderating factor extracted from situational theory and has been highlighted as important in previous organizational research. This study aimed at investigating the impact of transactional leadership on IT–business process alignment and studying the moderating effect of organizational culture on the relationship between transactional leadership and IT–business process alignment. The empirical findings reveal that contingent reward and management by exception behaviors of entrepreneurs are significant drivers of IT–business process alignment. Furthermore, market culture had a moderating effect on the relationship between entrepreneurs’ transactional behaviors and IT–business process alignment. Similarly, hierarchy culture exerts a moderating effect on the path between contingent rewarding behavior and IT–business process alignment. Here, it exerts an insignificant moderating effect on the management by exception behavior and IT–business process alignment path. The study findings mainly reveal the association of transactional leadership with IT–business process alignment, along with the moderating role of organizational culture. This study contributes to the literature on business knowledge by showcasing empirical evidence—how information processing aids entrepreneurial behavior to capture market opportunities and consumer behavior.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to analyze the relationship between management process alignment, service quality, organizational commitment and high educational performance. Design/methodology/approach The population of this study was all higher education institutions which provide undergraduate program and operate in Makassar. This study included a total sample of 312 respondents. Findings There is significant effects of mediation variables of service quality (M1) and organizational commitment (M2) on the relationship between management process alignment (X) and high educational performance (Y) in Makassar, Indonesia. Research limitations/implications For this study, cross-sectional data are used considering only one point of time due to which it is harder to see developments. There is a diversity of the characteristics of respondents, especially in terms of age, education, and status, so there is a possibility of a different perception of the content of the questionnaire that affected the selected answer. Originality/value This study considered the significant effects of mediation variables of service quality (M1) and organizational commitment on the relationship between management process alignment (X) and high educational performance. Previously, no research has been undertaken to examine the relationship between the location of the study and higher education institutions in the context of Makassar, Indonesia.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to bridge the void in virtual teams’ (VTs) lived experiences on the high-performance work process theme by exploring process alignment best practices for the functioning of effective VTs in the software sector of the technology industry of South Africa. Design/methodology/approach A qualitative, interpretivist case study was used to gain insight into the lived experiences of VT members. A purposive sample was selected, and data were collected through an electronic questionnaire and analysed by means of content analysis. Findings International literature corpus informed the process theme. Empirical evidence suggests that a value-driven work orientation to combat cybercrime linked with the pre-existence to specific architecture effectively contribute to the practice of VT expertise by delivering innovative new paths instead of aligning to traditional processes. Research limitations/implications The qualitative approach of this paper limits the replication possibilities beyond the information and communication technology (ICT) VTs who participated in the study. The themes, elements and the virtual nature of the study could be generalised across various technology-infused organisations in other VTs and within other knowledge working fields. Practical implications An exemplary questionnaire and method to obtain deep knowledge from the lived experiences of the virtually dispersed participants could be utilised for similar future studies. Social implications ICT software organisations trading on the African, within VT environments and South Africa, people practitioners and risk managers would benefit from the process alignment practices suggested in this study. Originality/value This paper complements seminal VT theorists, and presents suggestions towards a practical implementable novel framework for the implementation of VT processes alignment.
