Abstract The existence of a positive entire weak solution to a singular quasi-linear elliptic system with convection terms is established, chiefly through perturbation techniques, fixed point arguments, and a priori estimates. Some regularity results are then employed to show that the obtained solution is actually strong.

We consider a population structured by a space variable and a phenotypical trait, submitted to dispersion, mutations, growth and nonlocal competition. This population is facing an environmental gradient: to survive at location [Formula: see text], an individual must have a trait close to some optimal trait [Formula: see text]. Our main focus is to understand the effect of a nonlinear environmental gradient. We thus consider a nonlocal parabolic equation for the distribution of the population, with [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text]. We construct steady states solutions and, when [Formula: see text] is periodic, pulsating fronts. This requires the combination of rigorous perturbation techniques based on a careful application of the implicit function theorem in rather intricate function spaces. To deal with the phenotypic trait variable [Formula: see text] we take advantage of a Hilbert basis of [Formula: see text] made of eigenfunctions of an underlying Schrödinger operator, whereas to deal with the space variable [Formula: see text] we use the Fourier series expansions. Our mathematical analysis reveals, in particular, how both the steady states solutions and the fronts (speed and profile) are distorted by the nonlinear environmental gradient, which are important biological insights.

In our research work, we develop the analysis of a noninteger-order model for hepatitis B (HBV) under singular type Caputo fractional-order derivative. We investigated our proposed system for an approximate or semi-analytical solution using Laplace transform along with decomposition techniques by Adomian polynomial of nonlinear terms and some perturbation techniques of Homotopy (HPM). The obtained solutions have been compared with each other against some real data by simulation via MATLAB. The graphical simulation in fractional form shows a better general result as compared to integer-order simulation.

We combine the stochastic perturbation method with the maximum entropy principle to construct approximations of the first probability density function of the steady-state solution of a class of nonlinear oscillators subject to small perturbations in the nonlinear term and driven by a stochastic excitation. The nonlinearity depends both upon position and velocity, and the excitation is given by a stationary Gaussian stochastic process with certain additional properties. Furthermore, we approximate higher-order moments, the variance, and the correlation functions of the solution. The theoretical findings are illustrated via some numerical experiments that confirm that our approximations are reliable.

Due to the growing success of machine learning in the healthcare domain, medical institutions are striving to share their patients' data in the intention to build more accurate models which will be used to make better decisions. However, due to the privacy of the data, they are reluctant. To build the best models, they have to make the best feature selection for horizontally distributed private biomedical data. The previous proposed solutions are based on data perturbation techniques with the loss of performance. In this article, the researchers propose an original solution without perturbation. This is so the data utility is preserved and therefore the performance. The proposed solution uses a genetic algorithm, a distributed Naïve Bayes classifier, and a trusted third-party. The results obtained by the proposed approach surpass those obtained by other researchers, for the same problem.
