AbstractLet C be a curve with two smooth components and a single node, and let 𝓤C(w, r, χ) be the moduli space of w-semistable classes of depth one sheaves on C having rank r on both components and Euler characteristic χ. In this paper, under suitable assumptions, we produce a projective bundle over the product of the moduli spaces of semistable vector bundles of rank r on each component and we show that it is birational to an irreducible component of 𝓤C(w, r, χ). Then we prove the rationality of the closed subset containing vector bundles with given fixed determinant.

The Chern–Schwartz–MacPherson class of a hypersurface in a nonsingular variety may be computed directly from the Segre class of the Jacobian subscheme of the hypersurface; this has been known for a number of years. We generalize this fact to arbitrary embeddable schemes: for every subscheme $X$ of a nonsingular variety  $V$ , we define an associated subscheme $\mathscr{Y}$ of a projective bundle $\mathscr{V}$ over $V$ and provide an explicit formula for the Chern–Schwartz–MacPherson class of $X$ in terms of the Segre class of  $\mathscr{Y}$ in  $\mathscr{V}$ . If $X$ is a local complete intersection, a version of the result yields a direct expression for the Milnor class of $X$ . For $V=\mathbb{P}^{n}$ , we also obtain expressions for the Chern–Schwartz–MacPherson class of  $X$ in terms of the ‘Segre zeta function’ of $\mathscr{Y}$ .

AbstractA parametrization of the fine Simpson moduli spaces of 1-dimensional sheaves supported on plane quartics is given: we describe the gluing of the Brill-Noether loci described by Drézet and Maican, provide a common parameter space for these loci, and show that the Simpson moduli space M = M4m ± 1(ℙ2) is a blow-down of a blow-up of a projective bundle over a smooth moduli space of Kronecker modules. Two different proofs of this statement are given.

Let [Formula: see text] be the Whitney sum of complex line bundles over a topological space [Formula: see text]. Then, the projectivization [Formula: see text] of [Formula: see text] is called a projective bundle over [Formula: see text]. If [Formula: see text] is a nonsingular complete toric variety, then so is [Formula: see text]. In this paper, we show that the cohomology ring of a nonsingular projective toric variety [Formula: see text] determines whether it admits a projective bundle structure over a nonsingular complete toric surface. In addition, we show that two [Formula: see text]-dimensional projective bundles over [Formula: see text]-dimensional quasitoric manifolds are diffeomorphic if their cohomology rings are isomorphic as graded rings. Furthermore, we study the smooth classification of higher dimensional projective bundles over [Formula: see text]-dimensional quasitoric manifolds.
