South Africa is one of the countries with the highest tuberculosis (TB) burden. The World Health Organization (WHO) statistics gave an estimated incidence of 322 000 cases of active TB in 2017. Furthermore, according to the WHO, an estimated 78 000 people in South Africa died from TB. The National Strategic Plan for HIV TB and STIs identified the Gauteng province in South Africa as one of the districts with a high TB burden; a decision informed by annual measurements of TB incidence, prevalence and mortality. The main objective of the study was to explore and describe the experiences of community health nurse specialists in the TB burden setting to ensure safe practices and excellent service delivery. A qualitative descriptive phenomenological design was used to describe the experiences of community health nurse specialists in the TB burden setting. A purposive sampling method was used to select 20 nurses. Ethical principles were adhered to and trustworthiness strategies were applied throughout the study. The data were collected through in-depth interviews and analysed using the 7 steps of Colaizzi’s method of data analysis. The findings indicated that community health nurse specialists are afraid of being infected with TB, and that patients who default treatment are of concern. The services of prevention, treatment, care and support needed by these nurses should be prioritised by the relevant management to ensure that service delivery is not compromised.

ObjectiveTo implement, refine and evaluate an assertive community health nurse (CHN) model of support for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness that aims to improve their access to health and social care services.MethodsParticipants were recruited between 30 August 2013 and 31 October 2015, including clients residing in a Victorian southern Melbourne metropolitan suburb, who registered with the CHN and stakeholders from local service provider organisations engaging with the CHN. A collaborative approach using demographic data collected from client records to identify need and measure the time clients took to engage and access services, qualitative data gathered during Stakeholder Advisory Group meetings and feedback from face-to-face interviews with service organisation representatives informed refinement of the CHN model.ResultsThirty-nine clients (22 Female, mean age 50±11 years) participated. Clients engaged with services after an average of seven CHN visits. Eighteen clients independently accessed services after approximately 9 weeks, including medical and housing services. Client need and feedback from 20 stakeholders and three community nurses contributed to refining the model to ensure it met local needs and informed the necessary organisational framework, the CHN role and the attributes, knowledge and the skills required.ConclusionA collaborative CHN model of support for people at risk of or experiencing homelessness has been articulated. Evaluation of the role demonstrated increased client engagement with health and community services and social activities. Additionally, the CHN assisted other service providers in their delivery of care to this very complex client group.

Aim of the study: to assess the available rights of persons with disability from their mothers' perspectives in Zagazig City. Methods: The study conducted in 3 schools of persons with a disability; El-Nour School for Blind, El-Amal School for Deaf and Hard hearing, and School of Mental disability in Zagazig City, using a descriptive design. It involved 171 mothers of students with disabilities. The data collection tools were an interview guide concerned with demographic data and disability types, and the right of the person with a disability scale that assessed the available rights of persons with disabilities from their mothers’ perspectives. Results: The results showed that 67.4% of the students with disability were males, and 66.7% were aged 6-12 years. 42.1% of the students were mentally retarded, while 35.1% were deaf and 22.8% were blind. All mothers were housewives regardless of their educational level. 68.0% of the mothers said that all rights generally were unavailable, while 23.8% said that the rights were available in part, and 8.1% mentioned that right is available. Conclusion: There is a gap between the rights of the PWDs in Act and the implementation of these rights in real life, as stated by the mothers of the current study. The present study recommends increasing the public and society awareness about the PWDs through mass media and health education programs. Community health nurse should advocate the PWDs and act as a liaison between them and governmental organizations to activate the law of PWDs and meet the PWDS needs.

Abstract Aim: To discuss the development of the family and community health nurse (FCHN) in Italy by focusing on three levels: organisational, political and theoretical. Background: The role of the FCHN in Italy is not yet embedded evenly across the Italian National Health System (INHS) and does not have formal recognition, either contractually or organisationally. Although complementary post-basic training has been available for over a decade, the FCHN’s role in Italy currently exists only in pilot form. In some regions, the FCHN has operated for longer, thanks to which a clearer understanding of the functions and responsibilities required by the FCHN has emerged. Proposals for professional and social policies have emerged, as the FCHN’s role may be an answer to health problems and a contributor to the construction of social capital, capable of influencing both individual and collective well-being. Methods: A mixed method investigation via a parallel concurrent design to identify the organisational models for the FCHN was conducted across Italy. In this paper, two profiles are discussed – family and community health nursing and FCHN – but each with its different connotations. The former refers to the practice of nursing and the latter to the nursing practitioners working with family and the community. Conclusion: We describe the expected future outcomes for FCHNs as elements of social innovation for the development of a new welfare system.
