Angular analysis of the decay B+ → K∗(892)+μ+μ− in proton-proton collisions at $$ \sqrt{\mathrm{s}} $$ = 8 TeV

Angular distributions of the decay B+→ K∗(892)+μ+μ− are studied using events collected with the CMS detector in $$ \sqrt{\mathrm{s}} $$ s = 8 TeV proton-proton collisions at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.0 fb−1. The forward-backward asymmetry of the muons and the longitudinal polarization of the K∗(892)+ meson are determined as a function of the square of the dimuon invariant mass. These are the first results from this exclusive decay mode and are in agreement with a standard model prediction.

STRESSING ISSUE OF A PIEZOCERAMIC CANTILEVER WITH LONGITUDINAL POLARISATION AND ELECTRODE COATINGS

The main subject of this study is the investigation of the free vibration of a rectangular prismatic piezoceramic cantilever with longitudinal polarization and electrode coatings. Based on the general solution of coupled equations for piezoceramic material, applying the equations of electro-elasticity and satisfying electrical and mechanical conditions for the stress of a cantilever made from PZT4 piezoceramic material, componential displacements, electric potential, specific strain, electric field, and piezoelectric displacement, are determined and numerically obtained with Matlab software package. Based on the obtained equations and simulation results, it is possible to optimize the dimensions of the cantilever and determine the type of piezoceramic.

Structures of the massive vector boson propagators at finite temperature illuminated by the Goldstone equivalence gauge

Inspired by the Goldstone equivalence gauge, we study the thermal corrections to an originally massive vector boson by checking the poles and branch cuts. We find that part of the Goldstone boson is spewed out from the longitudinal polarization, becoming a branch cut which can be approximated by the “quasi-poles” in the thermal environment. In this case, physical Goldstone boson somehow partly recovers. We also show the Feynmann rules for the “external legs” of these vector boson as well as the recovered Goldstone boson, expecting to simplify the vector boson participated process calculations by adopting the similar “tree-level” logic as in the zero temperature situation. Gauge boson mixing case are also discussed. Similar results are shown in other gauges, especially in the Rξ gauge.

Polarization issues in circular electron–positron super-colliders

We study a possibility of obtaining transversely polarized electron/positron beams in the CEPC collider. Also, original results are presented for another project, the FCCee collider, which allows us to identify some features and differences of these similar machines. Important is the comparison of the data obtained with the expected and measured polarizations at LEP. In estimation of the depolarizing effect of field errors, in addition to the usual nonresonant spin diffusion, an attempt was made to take into account the resonant diffusion, which is due to a large spin tune spread. We consider a possibility to obtain polarization by accelerating polarized particles in the CEPC booster and then injecting them into the main ring. This option can be crucial for obtaining longitudinal polarization. We propose a scheme in which long-term preservation of such polarization is possible.

The Compton electron beam Polarimeter for the AmPS ring

The longitudinal polarization of the stored electron beam in the AmPS ring will be measured through the laser Compton backscattering technique. With the outlined design the measurement of the expected 70% degree of polarization to a statistical precision of 3% requires less than 60 sec under ideal conditions.

Theory determination of $$\varvec{\bar{B}\rightarrow D^{(*)}\ell ^-\bar{\nu }}$$ form factors at $$\varvec{\mathcal {O}(1/m_c^2)}$$

We carry out an analysis of the full set of ten $$\bar{B}\rightarrow D^{(*)}$$B¯→D(∗) form factors within the framework of the Heavy-Quark Expansion (HQE) to order $$\mathcal {O}\left( \alpha _s,\,1/m_b,\,1/m_c^2\right) $$Oαs,1/mb,1/mc2, both with and without the use of experimental data. This becomes possible due to a recent calculation of these form factors at and beyond the maximal physical recoil using QCD light-cone sum rules, in combination with constraints from lattice QCD, QCD three-point sum rules and unitarity. We find good agreement amongst the various theoretical results, as well as between the theoretical results and the kinematical distributions in $$\bar{B}\rightarrow D^{(*)}\lbrace e^-,\mu ^-\rbrace \bar{\nu }$$B¯→D(∗){e-,μ-}ν¯ measurements. The coefficients entering at the $$1/m_c^2$$1/mc2 level are found to be of $$\mathcal {O}(1)$$O(1), indicating convergence of the HQE. The phenomenological implications of our study include an updated exclusive determination of $$|V_{cb}|$$|Vcb| in the HQE, which is compatible with both the exclusive determination using the BGL parametrization and with the inclusive determination. We also revisit predictions for the lepton-flavour universality ratios $$R_{D^{(*)}}$$RD(∗), the $$\tau $$τ polarization observables $$P_\tau ^{D^{(*)}}$$PτD(∗), and the longitudinal polarization fraction $$F_L$$FL. Posterior samples for the HQE parameters are provided as ancillary files, allowing for their use in subsequent studies.
