Radiation products are present in several fields of knowledge. From the energy field, with nuclear reactors and nuclear batteries, to the medical field, with nuclear medicine and radiation therapy (brachytherapy). Although chemistry works in the same way for radioactive and non-radioactive chemicals, an extra layer of problems is present in the radiochemical counter-part. Reactions can be unpredictable due to several factors. For example, iodine-125 in deposited in a silver wire to create the core of a medical radioactive seed. This core is the sealed forming a radioactive seed that are placed inside the cancer. Several aspects can be discussed in regards to radiation chemistry. For example: are there any competing ions? Each way my reaction is going? Each reaction is more likely to occur? Those are important questions, because, in the case of iodine, a volatile product can be formed causing contamination of laboratory, equipment, personal, and environment. This chapter attempts to create a guideline on how to safely proceed when a new radioactive chemical reaction. It discusses the steps by giving practical examples. The focus is in protecting the operator and the environment. The result can be achieved safely and be reliable contribution to science and society.

LSTM Based Sales Prediction System for Supermarket

Many supermarkets today do not have a better forecasting system for yearly sales. This is due to the lack of skills, resources, and knowledge to make sales estimations. The use of the conventional statistical technique to forecast grocery supermarket sales has left many demanding situations unaddressed and, in general, results in the creation of predictive models that perform poorly. The era of big data, coupled with access to massive computing power, has made deep learning a go-to for sales forecast. This proposed system investigates forecasting sales for several stores. The essential variables that helped in better sales forecast were store type, date, item and sales. Product sales forecasting is a significant aspect that mainly aims to manage the purchase. Forecasts are crucial, especially in determining the accuracy of estimating the future demand for goods and inventory stock levels, which has been vital, mainly in the Grocery or supermarkets. Consider if goods are not available readily or the availability of goods is more than the demand, it can compromise overall profit. As a result, product sales forecasting may be critical to ensure that losses are reduced. Besides, the issue is becoming complicated for retailers to add specific consumer criteria that involve new, ever-changing seasonal preferences and volatile product marketing items. Hence a forecasting model is developed using Long short term memory (LSTM) to improve product sales accurate forecasts. The proposed model is mainly targeted to support the future purchase and a more precise prediction of sales and is not meant to alter Forecasting's existing subjective methods. A model based on a real grocery store's data for four years is developed to predict the store's sales. This method's impact is to forecast the availability of products in stores to ensure that they have just enough products at the right time.

Sustainable Production and Consumption of Paper and Paper Products in Nigeria: A Review

Paper as a consumer product offers a undisputed benefits to human society, and it has been proven to be critical in driving most sensitive needs of mankind—principally in areas of security, education, sanitation, and communication—and thus has been produced and consumed worldwide. Its sustainable production and usage is one topic that has featured prominently in many discussion fronts and more often than not ends with recommendations for an alternative source of raw material, improvement in production procedures, and ecological concerns. Paper use is an ecological concern that has triggered many paper intervention actions around the world such as the Paper Task Force in USA, Sustainable Paper Alliance in China, and Paper and Beyond in Europe. In Nigeria, however, challenges associated with paper production, consumption, and economic prospects have not been adequately tackled. This is conspicuously evident in the huge volume of paper products imported annually into the country as a result of unsustainable local production. The cumulative impact of these issues reflect negatively on the Nigeria’s paper industry and spread indirectly to the entire country’s economy in terms of high capital freight spent on importation, volatile product price, and loss of employment opportunities. This work sought to review the challenges and opportunities associated with raw material sources, energy and water consumption, environmental pollution, paper consumption, and disposal of used paper products in Nigeria. The current review also advocated for wastepaper as a variant of raw material with a sustainable potential.
