This paper discusses the approaches and research methods used in two projects which examine professional transformations on ‘either side’ of the school teacher. The authors consider how the projects drew upon the different yet potentially complimentary methodological approaches of discourse analysis and autoethnography in the examination of professional identity. Following a description of the projects and the chosen methods, which includes discussion of the respective traditions from which they stem, the approaches are compared and contrasted through analysis of their application with a focus upon their various advantages and limitations within these particular contexts. The authors discuss these examples in terms of the wider discussion of quality and rigour in qualitative research and as a contribution to the debates on the complementarity of different qualitative approaches.

AbstractIn this article the phenomonelogical approach to qualitative research is compared with certain other qualitative approaches following other paradigms. The thesis is that a deepened understanding of phenomenological philosophy can provide the alternative framework that many of these authors have been seeking. The comparison with other approaches is made in terms of theoretical and methodical consistency. Theoretically, the argument is that the situation known as "mixed discourse" exists because practitioners have not sufficiently freed themselves from the criteria and practices of traditional paradigms in which most qualitative researchers have been trained. The shift from the collection of numerical data to linguistic data takes place without appropriate shift in theoretical context. This state of affairs should be overcome in order to strengthen qualitative research. On the other hand, many qualitative researchers carry on practices that seem to be analogous to phenomenological prescriptions which are explicitly usually misunderstood or resisted when stated directly and generically. Thus, greater theoretical clarity and consistency as well as deeper reflection or better utilization of imaginative possibilities still seem to be called for in order to bring better theoretical conceptualization and more consistent practices to qualitative research.

The results of this study indicate the existence of discourse construction games in the video. Text analysis shows the number of a clause and phrase games in each conversation. Text discourse wants to eliminate Islam that is labeled as cruel, intolerant, ill-tempered, scornful, disrespectful and does not respect different beliefs. The level of discourse practice shows that CISForm tends to produce content related to sosial phenomena. ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to access an understanding about Gluten-Free Casein-free Diet (GFCF) and its application in autism children in special need school C Yakut Purwokerto. This study uses qualitative research methods, descriptive depth interviews with 6 key informants and 11 informants support. The results showed that the mother initially did not understand and know about the GFCF diet. After got information from therapy, physician, psychologist and school teacher, they understanding of GFCF diet with is proved by mothers already know what foods must be limited. But the mother has not been able to implement a GFCF diet in everyday life as evidenced by the child is still often eat foods made from flour and milk. This is also evidenced in the form Food Frequency Quetionnaire Qulitative. Mother's level of understanding about the GFCF diet has been good, but from the 6 main informant could not do GFCF diet properly and strictly. Keywords: Autism, Diet Gluten Free Casein Free, Flour and milk   ABSTRAK   Sekitar 60% penyandang autis mempunyai gangguan sistem pencernaan akibat alergi makanan.

The role and significance of young activists in the process of international norm creation, diffusion, internalisation, and implementation have not received much attention in academic research. Yet, as a case study of Greta Thunberg campaigning on climate change has proven, children and teenagers can become significant norm entrepreneurs. Using the theoretical underpinnings of social constructivism, this article identifies and analyses Thunberg’s actions to exhort pressure on states, members of governments and international organisations to further develop and implement norms that would help save the planet from the imminent climate crisis. Our research uses an exploratory and inductive approach in which qualitative research methods (a case study of Greta Thunberg) and discourse analysis are applied.

Research methods teaching in psychology is predominantly divided into quantitative and qualitative modules, often with an emphasis on the former. In this article we argue that by explicitly addressing the integration of methodological approaches we may help to improve students' understanding of psychological research methods overall. The example of a final year module is provided, outlining the use of a student-led classroom debate on the compatibility of qualitative and quantitative methodologies in psychology. This type of learning activity was introduced to encourage a deeper understanding of the module content and to move toward student-centred learning. It is concluded that the relative success of the debate depended largely on the size of the class and the willingness of the students to partake in a non-assessed, planned activity. Suggestions are provided for how the debate could have been better managed, alongside alternative ways in which the whole module may be redesigned.

This study interrogates the discourses and issues of terrorism and counterterrorism in Nigeria. That terrorism has plagued Nigeria for over a decade (2009-2020) makes it imperative to subject the purpose, conduct, scope, and outcomes of Nigeria’s counterterrorism efforts to a critical analysis. This work adopted qualitative research methods (primary and secondary data collection), and used discourse analysis strategy to analyse the collected data. Using critical terrorism studies framework, the central argument of this study is that Nigeria lacks national consensus on the problem of terrorism, which has impacted negatively on the efforts to counter the scourge. The country lacks the needed unity of purpose to combat terrorism due to vested interests and politicisation of the terrorism issues. Consequently, the menace has lingered in ways that have made the country very fragile. This study concluded that for Nigeria to get out of the woods, both the leaders and the citizens would have to unanimously face the reality that terrorism is a common enemy that should be confronted in unison and with a whole-of-society approach. To continue doing otherwise is to allow the country to dissolve into “socio-political Armageddon.”
