The first harmonics beam generated by an iodine laser system was focused by an f/2 optics on an Al foil target. The X-ray output from the laser plasma both in the line and broad-band spectra was registered over an interval around the “ideal” focus. It was found that the maximum X-ray power is not obtained in the focus itself but for a somewhat larger focal spot outside the focus. To explain this phenomena, temperature and density measurements were in addition made. The plasma temperature evaluated from both the line (He-like Al XII resonant line and j, k, l satellites) and broad-band spectra (two foil method) was also measured and found to be largely constant in the vicinity of the focus. The line and broad-band temperatures differ, the broad-band temperature being about 25% higher. The electron density was equally determined using an intercombination line.

A Laboratory CT scanner with a resolution of (0.1 mm)3 wasused to determine if storage up to 7 days in saline at 4°C and (or) repeated measurementswould alter the compliance, C, and incremental elastic modulus, Einc,of isolated porcine aortas. All specimens were obtained fresh, made pressure-tight, and thenmounted in the scanner, with humidified air used to produce adequate x-ray contrast. Thespecimens were imaged at pressures of 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, and 24 kPa, and vessel measurementswere then obtained with a computerized technique and analyzed. Seven thoracic aortas werestudied on days 0, 3, 5, and 7, with a significant change (p < 0.05) in compliance firstoccurring after three imaging studies (i.e., day 5). Compliance of the fresh thoracic aortas (mean± SD) was 0.90 ± 0.28 mm/kPa at 14.4 kPa and 0.85 ± 0.31 mm/kPa at 22.5 kPa.Six thoracic aortas were studied only on days 0 and 6 with no intermediate measurements. Theyshowed no change in either compliance (0.88 ± 0.07 mm/kPa at 14.4 kPa and 0.64 ±0.09 mm/kPa at 22.5 kPa) or Einc (0.46 ± 0.05 MPa at14.4 kPa and 0.88 ± 0.15 MPa at 22.5 kPa) from day 0 to day 6. Thus, number ofmeasurements rather than time appears to be the important factor. Six abdominal aortas werestudied similarly but on days 0, 3, and 6. No significant change occurred in compliance (0.15 ±0.06 mm/kPa at 14.4 kPa and 0.032 ± 0.026 mm/kPa at 22.5 kPa) butEinc showed a change, possibly due to their viscoelastic properties. Weconclude that this nondestructive CT measurement method is suitable for repeated studies onporcine thoracic aortas, but not abdominal aortas, if the measurement involves two consecutiveimaging sessions separated by no more than 6 days.Key words: compliance, incremental elastic modulus, porcine aorta,x-ray computed tomography.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GIST) as such is a rare disease, but according to some study it may end up to malignant type in approximately 10-30%. Herein we present a 2 cases of GIST who presented with acute intestinal obstruction in emergency department. In imaging studies (X-ray erect abdomen, ultrasonography abdomen), it showed a features of intestinal obstruction but could not rule out the exact mechanism or pathology behind the obstruction. As commonly adhesions is a main culprit behind the cause of acute intestinal obstruction in case of any post-operative patient. So, we try to highlight that in case of any old aged individual and in virgin abdomen GIST should be keep in mind as a cause of intestinal obstruction.

  El signo de Chilaiditi es un hallazgo radiológico que se define como la interposición temporal o permanente de asas intestinales entre el hígado y el diafragma. Se denomina síndrome cuando se acompaña de sintomatología sugestiva de abdomen agudo. El signo y síndrome de Chilaiditi deben ser reconocidos con claridad por el pediatra clínico. Se reporta el caso de una paciente de 9 años de edad, producto de madre primigesta de 27 años. Al momento de la presunción diagnóstica debe tenerse en cuenta las patologías que forman parte del diagnóstico diferencial y asociar los estudios de imagen a la sintomatología y a los factores de riesgo que predisponen la aparición del síndrome de Chilaiditi. La incorrecta interpretación de signos, síntomas y de los estudios de imagenología, pueden conducir a establecer tratamientos inadecuados que no representan beneficios para el paciente.   Palabras clave: Signo de Chilaiditi, síndrome de Chilaiditi, parálisis cerebral, estreñimiento, radiografía de abdomen.   Abstract Chilaiditi´s sing is a radiological finding, defined as the temporary or permanent interposition of intestinal loops between liver and diaphragm. It is called a syndrome when it is accompanied by symptoms suggestive of acute abdomen. Chilaiditi´s sign and syndrome must be clearly recognized by the clinical pediatrician. The case of a 9-year-old patient, product of a 27-year-old mother, is reported. At moment of diagnostic presumption, it must take into account the pathologies that are part of the differential diagnosis, and associate the imaging studies with the symptoms and risk factors that predispose to the onset Chilaiditi´s syndrome. The incorrect interpretation of signs, symptoms and imaging studies can lead to inadequate treatments that do not represent benefits for the patient.   Keywords: Chilaiditi´s sing, Chilaiditi´s syndrome, cerebral palsy, constipation, abdominal X-ray.
