Abstract The gain or loss effect on the dynamics of the matter-wave solitons in three-component Bose-Einstein condensates with time-modulated interactions trapped in parabolic external potentials are investigated analytically. Some exact matter-wave soliton solutions to the three-coupled Gross-Pitaevskii equation describing the three-component Bose-Einstein condensates are constructed by similarity transformation. The dynamical properties of the matter-wave solitons are analyzed graphically, and the effects of the gain or loss parameter and the frequency of the external potentials on the matter-wave solitons are explored. It is shown that the gain coefficient makes the atom condensate to absorb energy from the background, while the loss coefficient brings about the collapse of the condensate.

In this paper, we investigated theoretically the dynamic effect induced by nonlinear tunneling of two weakly linked Bose–Einstein condensates in an extended boson Josephson-junction model, in which the two-body interaction is extended to neighboring lattice sites in strong interaction regime. As a consequence the dynamic properties compared with the usual Josephson-junction model are crucially modified by the atom-pair tunneling, which leads to the macroscopic quantum-states of coherent relative-phase between two condensates seen to be effective Schrödinger cat states. The relative-phase is controllable by system parameters and thus can be used to realize the qubit in quantum computation.

AbstractIn this paper, we prove existence and uniqueness results for the ground states of the coupled Gross-Pitaevskii equations for describing two-component Bose-Einstein condensates with an internal atomic Josephson junction, and obtain the limiting behavior of the ground states with large parameters. Efficient and accurate numerical methods based on continuous normalized gradient flow and gradient flow with discrete normalization are presented, for computing the ground states numerically. A modified backward Euler finite difference scheme is proposed to discretize the gradient flows. Numerical results are reported, to demonstrate the efficiency and accuracy of the numerical methods and show the rich phenomena of the ground sates in the problem.
