In an analysis based on the theory of Fear, this study examines impulse purchase patterns during the COVID-19 Pandemic across major US urban centers. Data from 889 US consumers were collected from leading US cities to evaluate impulse buying behavior fluctuations using SEM-based multivariate approaches to examine the survey statistics. We used COVID-19 as a moderating variable of this impulse purchase behavior. The results confirmed that Fear of a complete lockdown, peers buying, scarcity of essential products on shelves, US stimulus checks, the limited supply of essential goods, and panic buying have had a compelling and affirmative influence on the sharp swings of impulse buying patterns. The findings further confirm that Fear Appeal and social media fake news have had a strong positive impact on impulse buying as mediating factors. Finally, it was concluded that COVID-19 is a significant moderating factor influencing the impulse buying behavior of US citizens. The practical implications suggest that marketers and brand managers should devise novel strategies to enhance their brand’s market share to attain a competitive advantage in COVID-19 or similar panic situations in the future. These research findings are essential to comprehend the sharp fluctuations of impulse buying patterns in the current cutthroat competition environment across the US and other parts of the world.

Impulse buying behavior is a sudden spontaneous urge of the consumer to make unplanned purchase after seeing the product in the retail outlet. Such type of behavior involves purchasing without much thinking. A number of studies have been conducted in the past regarding consumer decision making. This study has its base in the form of tech savvy consumers. Impulse purchase behavior for tech savvy consumers has not been studied much in the past; neither any scale has been developed specifically for such kind of behavior. Numerous technological products are entering the markets now days in our Indian market. Talking about the smart phones or the automobiles etc. loaded with a plethora of latest technological features and also the information technology featured services like net banking, internet of things etc. are also the primary choice and these technical features attract the consumers in the products. This research will open insights about the impulse purchasing behavior of tech savvy consumers and there are some other personality traits also. Using the technique of K means clustering analysis has been done.

Online impulsive buying behavior has grown in accordance with the advancement of e-commerce operations. However, despite the fact that numerous published studies have investigated some variables that influence online impulse purchase behavior, the involvement of promotional stimuli for broad diversification of products within a short period along with hedonic motivation being the moderator, as applied in e-commerce’ marketing campaign activities in Indonesia, in influencing impulsive buying behavior remains unexplored. This study, using PLS-SEM statistical method and judgemental sampling technique, is advantageous to address the influence of those marketing stimuli in generating impulsive buying behavior. A quantitative method was applied in this study, using an online questionnaire targeted at online shoppers all across Indonesia. Based on the analysis, it is found that time scarcity promotion is positively influencing online impulsive buying behavior, with or without the role of high hedonic motivation as the moderator. On the other hand, a price promotion attribute’s positive impact on online impulsive buying behavior is accepted as long as it does not involve the hedonic motivation as a moderator. The results of the research are intended to provide a better understanding of marketing stimuli in the research industry and practical recommendations to online merchants on how to promote their products more effectively to generate overall sales through impulsive purchases.

Technological advances create a new paradigm in the business world. The rapid development of internet usage will have a positive impact for online business in Indonesia. One of the most desirable consumer behavior by marketers who use online media is the impulsive purchase behavior. This study aims to determine the effect of gender, attractiveness of promotion and ownership of credit cards against impulsive buying behavior online. This research was conducted in Denpasar City involving 60 respondents through purposive sampling method. This method was chosen because it is not known exactly the number of population. Data were collected through questionnaires. Data analysis technique used is multiple linear regression analysis technique.The results of this study found that gender positively and positively affects online impulsive buying behavior, promotional appeal positively and significantly affects online impulsive buying behavior and credit card ownership positively and significantly affects online impulsive buying behavior. Marketers are expected to be more accurate in determining market segmentation, more creative in promoting and able to provide convenience and convenience in the payment process when shopping online. This paper examined the packaging features effecting milk buying behavior. Four packaging features were selected that included nutritional information, price, country of origin, & quality standards, and their impact on milk consumption and purchase behavior is analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling. The study was carried out in urban areas of Karachi, among 318 respondents using Likert scale based questionnaire. The findings suggested that all four packaging features have a significant positive impact on consumers buying behavior. Consumers are attracted towards those products which provides enough and adequate amount of information on its products’ packaging. Nutritional information is among one of the important element that needs more focus and it will surely results in a positive way to the manufacturers of dairy products. Hence, producers and marketers of milk should focus on their product’s packaging features especially on the verbal element as a primary strategy in order to influences consumers buying behavior.

For decades, impulse buying is considered to be one of the significant factors to increase sales volume in the retail sector. Past studies have investigated the impulsive buying behavior of generation Y consumers in retail settings of somewhat medium- and large-sized cities. Therefore, how certain situational or in-store factors can propagate impulse buying in the retail settings of small cities has been widely ignored. This article explores the influence of situational variables categorized as personal factors (time availability, family influence, money availability) and in-store factors (store environment, sales promotions, and friendly store employees) on generation Y impulse buying behavior in the Pakistani context in general and the country’s small cities in particular. A self-administered survey was used to elicit information from 422 purposively selected respondents (living in various cities of Punjab, Pakistan). Data have been analyzed by using Statistical Package For Social Science (SPSS) and Analysis of Moment Structure (AMOS) for structural equation modeling (SEM). Results revealed that personal factors, that is, time availability and family influence has significant and positive impact on the impulse buying behavior of generation Y consumers in Pakistan, also in-store factors except money availability has significant impact on impulse buying behavior. Recommendations for retail management have been given at the end of the article.

PurposeThe topic of impulsive buying has been studied by researchers for nearly 70 years and made a large number of valuable discoveries. However, most of the existing research studies focused on the impulse buying behavior in the context of single person shopping from the perspective of individuals and lack of research on impulse buying behavior in the context of shopping with others from the perspective of communities. Given that consumers' decision-making in the presence of others is significantly different from that when they are alone, it is necessary to probe into the internal mechanism of impulse purchase behavior in the context of shopping with others.Design/methodology/approachIn total three experiments were used to test the hypothesis. Study 1 examines the differences in the motivation of impulsive desire among consumers with different impulsive traits. A total of 240 undergraduates were recruited to participate in the study. The purpose of study 2 is to examine the effect of external attribution on consumer guilt, which leads to the failure of self-control. A total of 256 undergraduate students participated in the study 2. The purpose of study 3 was to test the moderating effect of the intensity of ties on the impact of goal on impulse purchase intention. A total of 240 subjects participated in study 3.FindingsWhen shopping with companions, consumers with different impulse traits have different initial impulses in the face of temptation, but they may have a similar higher willingness to buy on impulse. There are two reasons: on the one hand, consumers with high-impulsive traits produce a higher desire to buy on impulse driven by hedonistic motivation. In contrast, consumers with low-impulse traits will also have a higher impulse purchase desire driven by prosocial motivation. On the other hand, external attribution can lead to the failure of self-control and impulse purchase behavior. However, the above effects only occur when there is a strong connection between consumers.Research limitations/implicationsFirst, this paper simulates the phenomenon of impulse purchase in the relational situation through experimental methods; if the research based on the real consumption scenario can be carried out, the research results will be more convincing. Second, whether there are other intermediary mechanisms, such as whether external attribution can affect consumers' self-control through perceived social support, need to be further tested. Finally, it is also necessary to examine the role of other regulatory variables, such as consumers' sense of power, the type of self-construct, etc., and these research clues will further enrich the research on impulsive buying in the context of relationship.Practical implicationsFirst, businesses can launch more accurate marketing strategies for consumers who are shopping together, find ways to reduce consumers' attention to their own responsibility or fault and guide them to conduct external attribution to their impulsive consumption behavior. The findings also have implications for consumers to control their own impulse purchase behavior. In addition, the results of this study can provide new insights into the government to prevent social crisis and carry out consumer education.Originality/valueThe key contribution of the current research is that, unlike existing studies that focus on the exploration of impulsive buying in the context of single person shopping, this study explores the internal mechanism and causal process on how consumers' impulsive buying behavior occurs when shopping with others. The authors further make a contribution to a self-control theory by demonstrating that external attribution has a negative effect on self-control in relational situations. Finally, this study also finds that the intensity of ties can moderate the impacts of focus goals on impulsive buying behavior.

<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;">The expansion of e-commerce dramatically changes the spending patterns which are found a significant number of impulse buying. Practical method and easy way to buy specific goods from e-commerce might be an important factor why customers spent their money more impulsively. Researches on this phenomenon showed that psychological values emerged from religiusity condition and self-interest encouragement play as self-regulation for controlling impulsive buying behavior. Viewed from Islamic economic perspective, this study seeks to configurate self-interest (<em>al-nafs</em>) into three levels namely <em>al-nafs al-ammarah</em>, <em>al-nafs al-lawwamah</em>, and <em>al-nafs al-muthmainnah</em> when <em>al-nafs</em> involved in online impulse buying. The first two layers of <em>al-nafs</em> refer to the level of self-interest which are material oriented, whereas the last one represents the highest level of self-interest which is spiritual oriented. By employing 134 repondents from e-commerce customers in Jakarta, the research findings revealed that there was no relationship between religiusity and <em>al-nafs al-ammarah</em> and <em>al-nafs al-lawwamah</em>. However, <em>al-nafs al-ammarah</em> (sig.= 0.000) and <em>al-nafs al-lawwamah</em> (sig.=0.040) positively influenced impulse buying. Meanwhile, there was strong relationship between religiusity and <em>al-nafs al-muthmainnah</em> (sig.= 0.000) in which this highest level of self-interest did not have relationship with impulse buying. These research findings have important implications that in order to regulate impulsive buying behavior, customers should control their self-interest and make it to be <em>al-nafs al-muthmainnah</em>. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;"> </span></p><em></em>

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has been pervasively applied by organizations around the globe, especially in emerging countries, and Vietnam is a case. This study aims to extensively review the extant literature concerning CSR, impulse purchase, and their relationship. The methodology of this study is performed following the latest reviews from various credible academic sources to comprehend the relationship between CSR and impulse buying extensively. In addition, the study points out the research gap. Then, it discusses the results, the research limitations, and recommends possible directions for future studies that would greatly contribute to the scholarship of the fields.

This article focuses on impulsive buying experience. It aims at exploring whether the explanatory variables of this type of purchase, which are used in the marketing literature in the West, may account for the impulsive buying behavior in the Algerian cultural context. An extensive literature review allowed clarifying the basic concepts of this research; it led, firstly, to determine the variables that stimulate the consumer emotions and arouse pure impulse purchase and its consequences, and secondly, to show its importance to producers and distributors. The empirical study was conducted on 590 buyers from the Wilaya (Province) of Tlemcen (Algeria). The results of the data analysis, using the software R, indicate that the variables used in this study have a better predictive power of achieving the favorable experience of impulse buying.

The growing number of premium outlets in Malaysia has led to a new shopping experience for both local and international tourists. Associated with the concept of ‘everyday discount’, premium outlets would attract more consumers to purchase at the outlets. Previous studies have revealed the significant influence of sales promotion on consumer purchase behaviour as well as impulse buying behaviour. However, there are limited studies identifying the role of sales promotion on impulse buying behaviour in the perspective of international and local tourists. Moreover, previous research of literature on the premium outlets, especially in Malaysia is still lacking. Therefore this study aims to evaluate the role of sales promotion on impulse buying in the perspective of international and local tourists at premium outlets in Malaysia. Data were collected from 359 tourists at five premium outlets in Malaysia, using a self-administered questionnaire. The result of the study indicates that both groups have different preferences in terms of sales promotion that induced them to make an impulse purchase. This study suggests that retailers or marketers should improvise their pricing strategies and give out more samples and gifts to attract tourists to spend more money.
