Aim. The aim of research was to determine pair correlation and path coefficients of traits and to identify on their basis contributions of different quantitative traits in the main feature – ‘grain yield. Methods. Eleven 11 spring barley varieties were investigated: ‘Dzherelo’, ‘Zvershennia’, ‘Etyket’, ‘Badioryy’, ‘Vzirets’, ‘Hranal’, ‘Modern’, ‘Vitrazh’, ‘Pasadena’, ‘Tolar’, and ‘Maliovnychyy’. We analyzed 50 plants of each variety for 11 quantitative traits. The pair correlation coefficients between quantitative traits were calculated by the BA Dospehov method; path analysis was conducted as AI Sedlovskiy et al described by the S. Wright method. Results. Path analysis revealed that the correlation between plant traits and yield depended both on direct and on indirect effects of each trait on the yield capacity. We established causes of varying correlations between yield and other plant traits. Conclusions. Different pair correlations between yield and plant traits were found. Path analysis of the yield capacity demonstrated that the correlation values between the yield and 11 quantitative traits ambivalently depended both on direct and indirect effects of a trait on the yield and on indirect effects of other traits. The direct effect of a trait on the yield does not always unambiguously affect the pair correlation coefficient. The following traits were of the greatest breeding value: lodging resistance and grain weight/straw weight ratio. Aim. Establishment of breeding-genetic features of spring barley varieties, their parentals components and hybrids generated via diallel crossing scheme and the efficiency of creating new source material for the crop breeding on their basis. Methods. Breeding and genetic. Statistical (variance, variational, correlation). Responsive. Path analysis. Genetic analyses. Results. Establishing the features of morphological and biological indicators, the level of adaptability, variability, correlation, path analysis, inheritance, combining ability on the basis of varieties and their parent components of spring barley. As a result of the research, the breeding value of varieties as sources of valuable traits was determined and a new source material and a variety of spring barley were created. Conclusions. Selection-genetic features of quantitative traits of spring barley varieties and their parental components have been established. Varieties as sources of valuable traits have been identified. Aim. Solutions of scientific problems of increasing the efficiency of genetic breeding methods are important objectives in the creation of valuable spring barley cultivars. Methods. Analyses of variance, variation, correlation and regression as well as genetic methods of analyzing features of genotypes in the diallel crossing and top-crossing design were used. Results. The important scientific problems with regard to increasing the efficiency of breeding for yield capacity, brewing quality and starch fraction composition were solved by establishing morphological and biological characteristics, dispersion, correlation, variability, adaptability, breeding and genetic peculiarities of inheritance, heritability, components of genetic variation, combining ability of plant traits as well as the effectiveness of hybridization and mutagenesis methods. As a result of the patterns established, the efficiency of the creation of economically valuable spring barley cultivars was increased. Conclusions. The new solutions of important scientific problems of raising the efficiency of breeding for yield capacity and grain quality were proposed and generalized. On this basis, valuable cultivars were created. As of 2017, 17 of them have been were included in the State Register of Plant Varieties suitable for dissemination inUkraine. A set of twenty one chickpea genotypes were grown and asses to know the amount of genetic variability, genetic association seed yield and thirteen quantitative traits, direct and indirect effect of yield contributing characters on seed yield. Correlation coefficient analysis revealed that seed yield per plant exhibited positive and significant association with 50% pod setting and plant height at genotypic and phenotypic levels. Correlation coefficient analysis revealed that seed yield per plant exhibited positive and significant association with 50% pod setting and plant height at genotypic and phenotypic levels. Path analysis revealed that characters such as plant height, number of primary branches, number of seeds per pod, hundred seed weight, biological yield and harvest index have positive direct effect on seed yield per plant at genotypic level.

S. Wright’s analysis of plant productivity is of great current interest. The research objective was to determine the pair correlation coefficients and S. Wright’s path coefficients for rice varieties and, on their basis, to identify the contribution of each of them to the plant productivity. Ten rice varieties were taken as the test material. The experiments were conducted in the irrigated experimental field of theInstituteofRiceof the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences ofUkrainein 2013, 2014 and 2016. Seeds were sown with an SKS-6A manual seeder; the seeding rate was 7.0 mln germinable seeds per hectare. The predecessor was alfalfa. The plot area was5 m2; the sowing distance was15 cm. The plants were analyzed for the following traits: plant productivity (grain weight), panicle weight, grain weight from side stems, productive tillering capacity, grain number per panicle, spikelet number per panicle, 1000-grain weight, grain weight per panicle, plant height, panicle length and density, empty spikelet number per panicle, and incidence of blind seed disease. Pair correlation coefficients were determined by B.A. Dospekhov’s method; path analysis, by S. Wright’s method. The correlations of productivity with 12 quantitative traits of rice were determined: the correlation was close with the grain weight from side stems and medium with the panicle weight and with the grain weight per panicle. Path analysis of the plant productivity established that the correlations of plant traits with the productivity depended both on direct and indirect effects of each trait on the productivity. The relative contribution of each of the studied 12 traits to the rice productivity was determined; both direct and indirect effects of their interactions with other traits were evaluated. This made it possible to discover causes and consequences of interrelations between the traits and, as a result, to choose valuable-for-selection traits, such as panicle weight and productive tillering capacity, which had the greatest direct effects on the productivity and significant correlations with it.

Abstract Background Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the top 10 causes of death in the world. Since Directly Observed Therapy (DOT) as a core strategy for the global TB control are not applicable to all types of TB patients, and self-management of TB patients (SMTP) as a patient-centered supervision type is a supplement to DOT and can improve TB case management. However, the factors related to SMTP are complex and need more study. This study aimed at identifying the determinants of SMTP and examining the direct/indirect effects of these determinants. Methods The purposive sampling technique was used to select study sites and participants were recruited from the study sites by the consecutive sampling method. The PRECEDE model was used as the framework to analyze the determinants of SMTP. The responses of TB patients were acquired via a questionnaire survey for data collection. A Pearson correlation analysis was used to define the relationship between the predisposing, enabling, reinforcing factors with SMTP behaviors. A regression-based path analysis was used to determine the action paths of the predisposing, enabling, and reinforcing factors on SMTP behaviors. Results The predisposing (TB knowledge), enabling [health education and healthcare workers (HCWs) support], reinforcing factors (family support) had significant positive correlations with SMTP behaviors (P < 0.05). The predisposing, enabling, reinforcing factors were positively correlated with each other (r = 0.123‒0.918, P < 0.05), except for family support and HCWs support. The predisposing factors (TB knowledge, β = 0.330) and the enabling factors (HCWs support, β = 0.437) had direct effects on SMTP behaviors. The enabling factors (health education and HCWs support) and the reinforcing factors (family support) had indirect effects on SMTP behaviors. Conclusions This study revealed the effects and action path of TB knowledge, health education, HCWs support, and family support on SMTP behaviors via a path analysis. Assessing patient’s needs for SMTP along with promoting effective TB health education and providing firm support from HCWs and family members are potential strategies to promote SMTP behaviors. The transition from bullying victimization to bullying perpetration is well documented in the literature. However, the mechanisms linking bullying victimization to perpetration are not fully understood. The main aim of the current study was to conduct a preliminary research investigating the indirect effects of youths bullying victimization on bullying perpetration through irrational cognitions and externalizing problems. The second aim of the study was to explore the moderating role of the type of parental attachment (secure vs. insecure) in the proposed model in explaining the association of bullying victimization and bullying perpetration. Data were collected from 269 adolescents (11-15 years; M = 11.98, SD = .68), enrolled in middle public schools from Romania. Path analysis and moderated path analysis were conducted to explore the direct and indirect effects and moderating effects, respectively. Study findings indicate that bullying victimization was indirectly related to bullying perpetration separately through youths’ irrational cognition as well as through externalizing problems. The serial indirect pathway from victimization to perpetration through irrational cognitions leading further to externalizing problems was also significant. However, the type of attachment that adolescents reported having toward their parents failed to moderate the indirect pathways, since all the interaction terms were nonsignificant. These findings advance the field prevention and intervention by identifying irrational cognitions and externalizing problems as important targets that anti-bullying programs should address to stop the transition from victims of bullying to perpetrators.

Background: Assessment of genetic variability and inter-relationship between the characters can be used in the breeding programme to evolve new varieties with wide genetic diversity to maximize the yield potential in crop improvement programmes. Eighty-four field pea genotypes were evaluated in an augmented block design for thirteen quantitative traits to study variance components, heritability, genetic advance and inter-relationship between the yield and yield contributing traits. Methods: The extent of phenotypic and genotypic variation that exist in a character was calculated by the formula suggested by Burton and de Vane (1953). Heritability in broad sense and genetic advance as per cent of mean for each character was computed using the formula suggested by Hanson et al. (1956) and Johnson et al. (1955), respectively. Correlation coefficient was calculated by method suggested by Searle (1961) and path coefficient analysis done as per method of Wright (1921) and elaborated by Dewey and Lu (1959).Result: Significant differences observed among the genotypes tested for the yield characters indicated the presence of variability. High heritability coupled with high genetic advance as percent of mean was observed for the traits viz., plant height, effective pods plant-1, harvest index and seed yield plant-1 were governed by additive gene effects which will aid in effective selection. Correlation coefficient analysis revealed that seed yield plant-1 had highly significant and positive correlation with biological yield plant-1, effective pods plant-1, harvest index, seeds pods-1 and effective nodes plant-1, indicating that these traits are strongly associated with seed yield in field pea. Path coefficient analysis identified biological yield plant-1 followed by harvest index, seed pod-1, effective nodes plant-1, 100-seed weight and day to 50% flowering as highly desirable components with great direct effects on seed yield.

This study was aimed to characterize yield components and plant traits related to grain yield. Correlation and path analysis were carried out in wheat genotypes grown under irrigated and non-irrigated field conditions. In the path coefficient analysis, grain yield represented the dependent variable and the number of spikes m-2, number of grains spike-1, kernel weight, days to anthesis, above-ground biomass m-2 and plant height were the independent ones. In both years, periods without rain occurred from early milk to grain ripening and from flag leaf sheath opening to grain ripening for first and second sowing dates, respectively. Character associations were similar in both water regimes. Grain yield showed positive phenotypic correlation with above-ground biomass, number of spikes m-2 and number of grains per spike. Path analysis revealed positive direct effect and moderate correlation of number of spike m-2 and number of grains per spike with grain yield. These results indicated that the number of spikes m-2 and the number of grains per spike followed by the above-ground biomass were the traits related to higher grain yield, under irrigated and late season water stress conditions.
