<div class=""abs_img""> <img src=""[disp_template_path]/JRM/abst-image/00270002/08.jpg"" width=""150"" />Developed shogi robot system</div> The authors developed a low-cost, safety shogi robot system. A Web camera installed on the lower frame is used to recognize pieces and their positions on the board, after which the game program is played. A robot arm moves a selected piece to the position used in playing a human player. A fast, robust image processing algorithm is needed because a low-cost wide-angle Web camera and robot are used. The authors describe image processing and robot systems, then discuss experiments conducted to verify the feasibility of the proposal, showing that even a low-cost system can be highly reliable. </span>

Human beings possess a remarkable ability to recognise familiar faces quickly and without apparent effort. In spite of this facility, the mechanisms of visual recognition remain tantalisingly obscure. An experiment is reported in which image processing equipment was used to displace slightly the features of a set of original facial images to form groups of modified images. Observers were then required to indicate whether they were being shown the “original” or a “modified” face, when shown one face at a time on a TV monitor screen. Memory reinforcement was provided by displaying the original face at another screen position, between presentations. The data show, inter alia, the very high significance of the vertical positioning of the mouth, followed by eyes, and then the nose, as well as high sensitivity to close-set eyes, coupled with marked insensitivity to wide-set eyes. Implications of the results for the use of recognition aids such as Identikit and Photofit are briefly discussed.

Abstract— Literally embedded systems are defined as equipment that computes a particular job. Embedded Linux System was also developed as a means of education, one of which is ED-255EK Embedded Education Platform, designed to be very practical and consume very low power. ED-255EK is also equipped with a PXA255 processor that is compatible with ARM version 5TE ISA, so it can be used to carry out various kinds of lab work or experiments on embedded systems. The working principle of this tool begins with the configuration of data communication between Fedora Linux and ED-255EK. When the communication goes well, it is downloaded by the ED-255EK system to a laptop or computer that has been installed with the Fedora 9.0 Linux operating system. To take advantage of the ED-255FPGA module, driver module installation is required first, after which the application program is installed. Laptops or computers that have installed the Fedora 9.0 Linux operating system will act as input and output programs making it easier to monitor each module that is being run. The module used is the ARM 1923 Robot Module and Voice Module ED4321.

Wavelets are mathematical functions which are used as a basis for writing down other complex functions in an easy way. These cut up data into its frequency components and so that we can study each and every part with more preciseness as it is scaled for our convenience. We may also term wavelets as a tool to decompose signals and trend as a function of time. Wavelets are certainly used in place of the applications of Fourier Analysis as wavelets give more freedom to work on. In this paper, a basic idea of wavelet is provided to a person who is unknown with the idea of function approximation. Apart from pure mathematics areas, wavelets are highly useful tool in analyzing a time series. Wavelets are used for removing noise from a statistical data which is one of the most important job in data analysis. The applications of wavelets not only bars here, but they are also used in quantum physics, artificial intelligence and visual recognition. An important aspect of wavelets, image processing is covered in brief in this paper which will give a thin-air idea of how digital images are stored.
