This study determined the factors influencing the adoption of improved soybean varieties and examined the technical efficiencies of improved and local soybean varieties production in Southern Shan State, Myanmar. For this study, data from a sample of 337 respondents were collected by employing a multi-stage random sampling method. Logit model was adopted to determine the factors influencing the adoption of improved soybean varieties. Additionally, a stochastic production frontier was used to examine technical efficiencies of improved and local soybean varieties. Results show that factors that positively and significantly influence the adoption of improved soybean varieties are education, market access, extension access and training access. Examination of technical efficiency reveals that labor, fertilizer, machinery, and use of pesticide and harvester are inputs that significantly contribute to improving production efficiency among the improved variety farmers while seeds, labor, and fertilizer are significant inputs of local soybean production. On average, the estimated yield of the improved soybean varieties is 1.51 t/ha, which is higher than the yield of local soybean varieties grown at 0.88 t/ha. It was also revealed that improved soybean varieties had a relatively higher level of mean technical efficiency (85.04%) than local varieties (70.13%) and significantly different at 1% level. The results show that improved soybean production is more efficient than local soybean production. Therefore, government and non-government organizations should improve and provide market access, efficient and effective extension services and training to encourage farmers to adopt improved soybean varieties.

Abstract The economic importance of soybean towards poverty alleviation and food security is gaining wider popularity and common acceptance among smallholder farmers in sub-Sahara Africa, especially in Ghana. Commercial soybean cultivation is relatively new in Ghana; hence it has recently benefited from several productivities enhancing innovation/technologies. However, despite these efforts, productivity has remained low. This paper investigates factors affecting production efficiency among commercial soybean farmers, across the three commercial districts of the Upper West region of Ghana. A cross-sectional data collected from 271 soybean farmers were used to investigate technical efficiency of soybean production. The overall mean technical efficiency estimate is 59% with a scale elasticity of 0.89-indicating a huge scope for efficiency improvement. The result shows that, factors affecting technical efficiency are dependent on the farmer’s socioeconomic status. With the existing technology and production recourses, soybean farmers can improve their current levels of soybean production by 41% through the adoption of best production practices.

Pandeglang district is the largest soybean producer region in Banten province. Since the last four years, Pandeglang Regency has decreased land area and production. However, the amount of soybean productivity has increased. The ability of farmers to manage and allocate various inputs used in soybean farming affects the production and productivity of soybean and can give an idea of the level of efficiency achieved by farmers. So it is necessary to research whether the application or use of inputs in the process of soybean production has been at technically efficient level or not. Based on these conditions, in this study aims to: know the level of technical efficiency in soybean farming in Pandeglang regency. The basic method used in this research is descriptive method and the location of research is determined intentionally or purposive sampling. Sample selection for soybean farmer respondents was done by simple random sampling method of 77 soybean farmers. The result of the research shows that production factors that significantly affecting soybean production in Pandeglang are wide, fertilizer and insecticide. The average value of farmers' technical efficiency is 0.864. This figure indicates that the average farmers of respondents have reached technical efficiency in soybean production in the research area. the technical efficiency value of the stochastic function with the lowest value 0.6314 and the highest value 0.9599. Factors affecting technical inefficiency are age and training. However, these factors have a positive effect, meaning that both increase the level of technical inefficiency of soybean farming.

In this study, input oriented efficiency analysis of soybean growing in Adana province was performed. Data were collected from 84 farmers with face to face survey method by using stratified sampling method. In the analysis of data economic analysis of soybean production was performed and after input use efficiency in soybean production was analysed by Data Envelopment Analysis. In addition, the distribution of expenditure and income components is examined according to the status of the enterprises being efficiency. According to the analysis results, the average soybean area width in Adana province is 121.78 and average soybean yield 430 kg/da calculated as. According to DEA with input oriented, technical efficiency was calculated as 0.881, pure technical efficiency as 0.950 and scale efficiency as 0.920.

This study was carried out in the year November 2020. The general objective of this study was to assess the profitability and Technical efficiency of soybean producers in the municipality of Tanguiéta. A survey of a sample of 184 producers was selected at random in Center of Tanguiéta, Taïacou, Cotiakou, N’Dahonta and Tanongou of the municipality. In order to analyze the financial profitability of soybean production, the interviews focused on data in order to estimate the technical efficiency scores of each producer and to establish the operating account of the sampled producers. Thus, the most efficient and the average or weakly efficient producers whose technical efficiency scores are less than or equal to 50%. Gross margin, yield, value added per hectare and profit to production cost ratio were estimated. The results showed that the technical efficiency indices of the producers surveyed varied between 11% and 91.1% with an average of 45.62%. Soybean production is financially profitable depending on the level of technical efficiency although the yields obtained are very low for each of the groups. The profit to cost of production ratio revealed that the group of the most efficient producers has the best ratio (1.18> 0.93), showing that soybean producers are technically inefficient overall. With regard to the indicators, they are far from the production potential expected in Benin.

Soybean has an important role in Indonesian diet, especially as source of protein, fat, mineral, and vitamin. Given the relatively stagnant technology, efficiency improvement at farm level would probably be an appropriate way to increase soybean production in the near future. The objective of this paper was to estimate the technical efficiency of soybean production in irrigated area of Brantas river basin and analyze factors affecting technical inefficiency level. The results indicated that the technical efficiency of soybean production in the sites was around 83%. The analysis, however, failed to identify the determinants of technical inefficiency because none of the parameters in the analysis was significant. Further study is required to identify the determinants such that the target groups of extension can be specifically determined. Since K2O fertilizer significantly affected soybean production while P2O5 and N fertilizers did not, the first step to improve the technical efficiency of soybean production was to provide soybean farmers with recommendation regarding balanced amount of fertilizers. The recommendation, however, should be derived from local verification trial in each site.

<p>This study aimed to analyze the impact of Sekolah Lapang Pengelolaan Tanaman Terpadu (SLPTT) on technical efficiency soybean participants and non-participants farmers. SLPTT is one of the government programs in an effort to enhancement production and productivity of soybean through the process of learning the application of technology to the management of the use of farm inputs and integrated climate. The method used was the Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA) with a model of the Cobb-Douglas production function. Location research in Jember Regency, East Java.</p>The results show the factors that influence significantly to the enhancement in soybean production among others, land, seeds, chemical fertilizers, and pesticides liquid. Production factors most responsive to the enhancement in soybean production is the amount of seed used. The average level of technical efficiency of soybean farming both farmers SLPTT or non SLPTT in Jember Regency have technically efficient. However, farmers SLPTT has an average value of technical efficiency is higher than their non SLPTT, respectively worth 0.83 and 0.75. The sources that affect farmers' socio-economic enhancement of technical efficiency of soybean farming significantly among others, age, planting techniques, the use of VUB, mechanical control, and the number of counseling or SLPTT 2013.
