This study determined the factors influencing the adoption of improved soybean varieties and examined the technical efficiencies of improved and local soybean varieties production in Southern Shan State, Myanmar. For this study, data from a sample of 337 respondents were collected by employing a multi-stage random sampling method. Logit model was adopted to determine the factors influencing the adoption of improved soybean varieties. Additionally, a stochastic production frontier was used to examine technical efficiencies of improved and local soybean varieties. Results show that factors that positively and significantly influence the adoption of improved soybean varieties are education, market access, extension access and training access. Examination of technical efficiency reveals that labor, fertilizer, machinery, and use of pesticide and harvester are inputs that significantly contribute to improving production efficiency among the improved variety farmers while seeds, labor, and fertilizer are significant inputs of local soybean production. On average, the estimated yield of the improved soybean varieties is 1.51 t/ha, which is higher than the yield of local soybean varieties grown at 0.88 t/ha. It was also revealed that improved soybean varieties had a relatively higher level of mean technical efficiency (85.04%) than local varieties (70.13%) and significantly different at 1% level. The results show that improved soybean production is more efficient than local soybean production. Therefore, government and non-government organizations should improve and provide market access, efficient and effective extension services and training to encourage farmers to adopt improved soybean varieties.

This paper introduced the working principle of magnetic levitation rail machine and carried out the magnetic analysis. Take the weight of 132N simulation workbench prototype for example, finite element analysis of rail electromagnetic fields is applied through ANSYS software to find out the variation law of magnetic field distribution and affecting factors. Analysis shows that magnetic levitation rail machine has small leakage magnetic field, high load capacity and large anti-external disturbances capacity if the parallelism and the straightness of magnetic levitation rail machine are no more than 0.1mm and 0.2mm respectively when the table is suspended normally. The research results provides theoretical basis for structural optimization of the magnetic levitation rail machine.

Efficiency and Production Factors Analysis of Base Sector  Commodity in the Pati Regency (Case Study: Milkfish Farming  in Pati Regency, Central Java)This study aims to measure the level of technical efficiency in milkfish farmers and factors influencing milkfish production as a base sector commodity in Pati Regency. The research applied DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) with output oriented assumption and Variable Return to Scale (VRS) approaches to measure the efficiency level of milkfish farmers. It is then analysed by Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) to determine factors influencing milkfish production in Pati Regency. Results showed that the level of technical efficiency of milkfish farmers in Pati Regency was in low level with average number of 7.41. There are 55% of 80 farmers are below average. Furthermore, this research described the efficiency level of milkfish farmers in low, medium and large scale. OLS analysis found that the use of seeds, land area, and distance between ponds and sea have significant effect on milkfish production instead of the use of labour.

Abstract The economic importance of soybean towards poverty alleviation and food security is gaining wider popularity and common acceptance among smallholder farmers in sub-Sahara Africa, especially in Ghana. Commercial soybean cultivation is relatively new in Ghana; hence it has recently benefited from several productivities enhancing innovation/technologies. However, despite these efforts, productivity has remained low. This paper investigates factors affecting production efficiency among commercial soybean farmers, across the three commercial districts of the Upper West region of Ghana. A cross-sectional data collected from 271 soybean farmers were used to investigate technical efficiency of soybean production. The overall mean technical efficiency estimate is 59% with a scale elasticity of 0.89-indicating a huge scope for efficiency improvement. The result shows that, factors affecting technical efficiency are dependent on the farmer’s socioeconomic status. With the existing technology and production recourses, soybean farmers can improve their current levels of soybean production by 41% through the adoption of best production practices.
