Bacopa monnieri (L.) Pennell is an important medicinal plant used for the preparation of medhyarasayan (rasayana). Leaf explants of field grown young plants of B. monnieri was used to establish an efficient regeneration protocol with cytokinin (BAP) and auxin (IAA). The highest multiplication, i.e. (220 shoots/leaf, a cumulative of 2200 shoots from 10 explants) were noticed after 45 days of culture in MS medium supplemented with BAP(1.5mg/L) and IAA(0.5mg/L). The optimum concentration of growth regulator for shoot elongation and rooting was recorded in MS+GA3(0.25mg/L) and MS+IBA(1.5mg/L) respectively. The rooted plantlets were successfully established in green house conditions.

Withania coagulans (Stocks) Dunal is an important medicinal plant of Solanaceae. Nodal segments obtained from field grown plants were used as explants. 1 ? 2 cm long nodal segment with a single one bud was cultured on MS containing 2.5 mg/l thidiazuron (TDZ), 0.1 mg/l NAA and 50 mg/l adenine sulphate (AdS) resulted in formation of 5.16 shoots per node. However, vitrification was observed in all explants within one month. On the other hand nodal explants cultured on MS supplemented with 2.50 mg/l meta?topoline (mT) with 0.1 mg/l NAA and 50 mg/l AdS resulted in the formation of 4.50 healthy and uniformly grown shoots per node.Plant Tissue Cult. & Biotech. 26(2): 187-195, 2016 (December)

We investigated differences of salinity tolerance between 'salt-tolerant' (ST) and 'salt-sensitive' (SS) genotypes of yellow centaury [Centaurium maritimum (L.) Fritsch] selected during the germination phase. The ability of in vitro cultured C. maritimum to complete the whole ontogenetic cycle in less than 6 months enabled us to deterine salinity tolerance during different growth phases. Based on the physiological attributes measured in this study (growth, morphogenesis, photosynthesis, flowering, seed germination), it can be concluded that C. maritimum genotypes differing in salinity tolerance showed a variable response to elevated salt concentrations during both the vegetative and the generative growth phase.

The propagation with seeds and stem cuttings of Teucrium brevifolium were investigated in order to facilitate the use of the species in floricultural practice and as a medicinal plant. The seeds after they subjected to different types of treatments (dipping in H2SO4 for 15 min or in H2SO4 for 15 min and GA3 1000 mg l-1 for 10 min, 24 or 48h and untreated) cultured for germination in vitro at 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 °C. The cuttings were planted in a peat/perlite mixture 1:1 v/v in plastic square plug trays in order to study the rooting percentage. Seed germination was very low (2%) at temperatures of 15-25 °C, while chemical treatment with the concentrated H2SO4 for 15 min, increased germination to 8-10% at the same temperatures. Asexual propagation of the species resulted in a 52.5-61.5% rooting percentage, in all seasons except winter. Treatment with IBA 2000 mg l-1 increaseds rooting percentage.
