Background: Sleep deprivation is a common problem among the elderly in the cardiac care unit (CCU). Objectives: The present study aimed to determine the effects of environmental modifications on sleep quality improvement in these people. Methods: The study population included 60 elderly patients whose sleep quality was assessed by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index with even domains. The environmental factors that can disturb sleep quality were determined via a questionnaire, including 13 questions on a 5-point Likert scale. Descriptive and inferential statistical analyses were performed in SPSS 22 software via independent sample student t-test and chi-square. Results: After environmental modifications, the total sleep quality scores changed from 11.8 to 5.96, indicating sleep quality improvement. Before executing the environmental modifications, there were no significant correlations between sleep quality scores and demographic variables (sex, age, marital status, and economic status). However, after the modifications, there was a significant relationship between sleep quality and economic status (P = 0.024). Conclusions: Environmental factors can affect sleep quality in the elderly hospitalized in CCU. Therefore, it is possible to improve sleep quality in these individuals by modulating environmental conditions.

Hypertension affects approximately 26% of the adult population and it is a leading cause of death in up to 13.5% worldwide. Hypertension is a disease with the highest prevalence in Indonesia, so good treatment and prevention are needed. Several studies suggest that there is a correlation between hypertension risk factors and the disturbance of sleep quality. Therefore, it is necessary to develop preventive and promotive efforts to obtain optimum blood pressure in patients with hypertension to avoid complications or even death. This study aims to find out the correlation between sleep quality and the value of blood pressure in the elderly ?60 years old in Batu City. A cross-sectional study was conducted in Batu City in 2020. Stratified random sampling was performed to select the respondents. A validated PSQI questionnaire and sphygmomanometer were used to assess sleep quality and blood pressure, respectively. A Chi-Square test was used to test the hypothesis. There were 391 respondents involved in this study. Most of the respondents have poor sleep quality, 205 respondents (52,43%) of which 41 respondents (20%) have normal blood pressure, and 164 respondents (80%) have high blood pressure. The statistical analysis shows a significant correlation (p=0,000) between sleep quality and blood pressure. In conclusion, hypertension is associated with poor sleep quality in the geriatric population in Batu City.

Sleep quality of elderly is influenced by psychological conditions. Elderly with hypertension are affected not only by physical but also pshychological conditions. Anxiety is a part of its. This study was used a cross-sectional approach to identify the relationship between anxiety level (independent variable) and sleep quality in the elderly (dependent variable) with hypertension in the working area of ??Karangmulya Health Center, Garut Regency. This study was used Zung Self-rating Anxiety Scale (ZSAS) and the Pitsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaires. The results showed that the majority of respondents were female, 63 respondents (65.6%) and widow/widower (69.8%). The Correlation analysis between the level of anxiety and sleep quality of elderly patients with hypertension showed results P-value = 0.041(p<0.05), which means there was a relationship between the level of anxiety and sleep quality in elderly patients. It is expected that health care workers especially nurses can help the elderly to improve sleep quality through handling anxiety in elderly people with hypertension.

Background: The elderly population in recent years has experienced a significant increase. The condition and function of the body in the elderly are decreasing so that a person will experience a decrease in physical abilities which can affect body shape. Changes in body composition in the elderly include an increase in fat mass, a decrease in fat-free mass and a decrease in bone mass. These changes can increase and decrease the Body Mass Index (BMI). Sleep disturbance that affects sleep quality is sleep disordered breathing (SDB) and is closely related to a person's BMI level. The higher a person's BMI, the worse the quality of sleep, and vice versa. Purpose: This study aims to determine the relationship between obesity and sleep quality in the elderly. Methods: This study was a cross-sectional study. The sampling technique was simple random sampling. The research sample consisted of 49 elderly people. Results: Based on the chi-square test, the value of p = 0.043 (p

Abstract: Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) occurs due to a decrease of myocardial blood flow following a coronary arterial occlusion caused by an atherosclerotic plaque. This study aimed to determine the correlation between the hematocrit level and the occurence of AMI among patients with congestive heart failure (CHF). This was an observational analytic study with a cross sectional design. The population was both CHF patients with old myocardial infarction in the Cardiology Clinic and all AMI patients with CHF histories in the Intensive Cardiac Care Unit (ICCU) of Prof. Dr. R.D. Kandou Hospital, Manado, from November through December 2012. Samples were selected by using a purposive sampling method. Data were statistically analyzed by using a chi-square test. The results showed that the total samples were 41 patients. The chi-square test showed that there was a correlation between the hematocrit level and the occurence of AMI among CHF patients with a P-value of 0.008. Conclusion: Hematocrit levels were significantly correlated with the occurence of AMI among CHF patients in Prof. Dr. R.D. Introduction: This study aimed to determine the effect of warm footbath before bedtime on the quality of sleep on patients with acute Coronary Syndrome in Cardiac Care Unit. Methods: This study was conducted on 120 patients admitted to CCU at Mazandaran Heart Center and randomly divided into two groups of intervention and control. In the intervention group, warm footbath was performed after the second night in hospital before bed time by 41 C water for 20 minutes for three consecutive nights; in contrast, the control group did not receive anything of this sort. The next day, St Mary's Hospital Sleep Questionnaire was completed to evaluate sleep quality. Then, the obtained data were analyzed using SPSS software and Friedman, Wilcoxon exact statistical tests. Results: The quality of sleep in the first night of hospitalization was different from the third night after the intervention in both groups and the improvement process of sleep quality was observed in both groups. Most patients had moderate impairments (23-36), which had not changed during the intervention. In intervention groups, 8 patients had severe sleep disorders (greater than 37), which declined to 1 after three nights of intervention. While, in the control group this number fell from 10 patients with severe sleep disorders to 5. Warm footbath had a great positive impact on patients suffering from severe sleep disorders (P<0.05). Conclusion: Although warm footbath did not improve the quality of sleep in all patients, it reduced the number of patients who had severe sleep disturbances.
