Aim of this study is to inform about the prevention of child abuse and neglect. This study was prepared as a compilation. Effective programmes are those that support parents and teach positive parenting skills. Some of the most effective responses for preventing child abuse and neglect focus on child-rearing, parent-child relationships and the family environment, including training in parenting. Nurses have a key role to play in identifying, treating and referring cases of abuse and neglect in reporting suspected cases of maltreatment to the appropriate authorities. Child abuse and neglect have a long lasting impact on the child, its family and the following generations. In order to protect children from this situation, it is necessary to develop preventive programs, to raise awareness of their families-teachers-community and to make legal arrangements. Additional research is needed to determine effective approaches for nurses to prevent child abuse or neglect.  Keywords: Child abuse; child neglect; prevention; nurse.

Abstract.PARENTAL PERCEPTION ABOUT PARENTS EDUCATIONIn the so called Information and Knowledge Society, social and cultural capital are expected values. Despite the technological and scientific progres and the unstoppable development of Information and Communication Technologies, the doubts families feel about how to performe their parental role increases. Although the range of resources parents and children have at their disposal to get information to resolve those doubts is very wide (printed material, telephone, chats, social networks…), it seems that there is still lack of communication among the family members, which bring about conflicts which are not always solved in a constructive way. So, it is relevant to build nets which may support the educational and socialization role of the family. This paper analizes how 689 fathers and mothers perceive themselves regading communication strategies with their children. Variables related to communication styles with children, parental skills of emotional self-regulation, and strategies to solve conflicts have been analyzed. In order to collect qualitative and quantitative data, surveys, self-information, participative observation and focus groups techniques were used. The quantitative data was processed with descriptive and variables association statistics. The final conclusions indicate that parents demand information to better cope with their parental role, thus, parenting programms should be developed on a community base. Also, taking advantage of the wide scope the Net provides us, parents´ participation in Blogs and Virtual Learning Communities should be promoted. These resources may be understood as networks for social support, and ideal meeting places for exchanging concerns, experiences and worries. All in all, will promote the development of “Positive Parenting” as expected by the European Council. Keywords: family, positive parenting, programs about educational orientation in the family area.

The aim of the present study was to develop and validate a modified version of the Family Communication Questionnaire (FCQ) for women in the period one month postpartum with a focus on communication with the woman’s partner, own mother, and friends. The FCQ can measure the frequency of communication between women and their partners, own mothers, and friends across four childcare-related domains by methods such as face-to-face interaction, telephone, e-mail, and social networking services. In the present study, a total of 500 mothers were recruited from a facility in the Kansai region of Japan from February to July 2017 to complete a survey including a modified version of the FCQ and the General Functioning Subscale of the Family Assessment Device (FAD-GF). Two weeks later, 49 of 100 mothers asked completed a test-retest. After excluding responses that were incomplete for > 10% of the items in each domain, 399 (79.8%) valid responses were included in the analysis. The distribution of scores showed a floor effect for all scores except for those with the husband. The intraclass correlation coefficients for couple (woman-her partner), woman-her own mother, and woman-her friends were 0.719-0.897, 0.871-0.987, and -0.088-0.452, respectively, and Cronbach’s α coefficients were 0.886, 0.897, and 0.897, respectively. The FCQ and FAD-GF total scores were negatively correlated. The modified FCQ developed in the present study shows good internal consistency, stability, and validity for communication between mothers, their husbands, and their own mothers during the period one month postpartum.

While there were clear strategic aims in the way that marriages were made in the Howard dynasty during this period, the family was only unusual in that it operated at the very top of the aristocratic hierarchy and was therefore able to use marital alliances to successfully recover and bolster both status and finances. Where they were different, however, was in the experience of some of these women within marriage. By and large, the marriages made by and for members of the family, including women, seem to have been as successful as others of their class. However, three women close to the core of the dynasty experienced severe marital problems, even ‘failed’ marriages, almost simultaneously during the 1520s and 1530s. The records generated by these episodes tell us about the way in which the family operated as a whole, and the agency of women in this context, and this chapter therefore reconstructs these disputes for this purpose.

Recent decades have seen an increase in women’s employment rates and an expansion of egalitarian values. Previous studies document the so-called “motherhood penalty,” which makes women’s employment more difficult. Demands for greater shared child-rearing between parents are hindered by a normative climate that supports differentiated gender roles in the family. Using data from the Center for Sociological Research [Centro de Investigaciones Sociológicas] (2018), this study shows that the Spanish population perceives that differentiated social images of motherhood and fatherhood still persist. The “sexual division in parenting” index is proposed and the profile of the individuals who most perceive this sexual division is analyzed. The results show that women and younger people are the most aware of this social normativity that unequally distributes child care, making co-responsibility difficult. The political implications of these results are discussed.

Abstract A secure attachment relationship with at least one healthy adult is essential for a child to develop optimal coping abilities. Primary care providers like paediatricians and family physicians can help by supporting parents in practice settings. Every clinician encounter is an opportunity to ask parents about children’s relationships and their behaviour, daily routines, and overall family function. This statement, which focuses on children aged 0 to 6 years, describes basic principles in support of positive parenting and recommends in-office practices to promote secure parent–child relationships, engage families and build trust with parents. Crying, sleep, and difficult behaviours are described as opportunities for clinicians to provide anticipatory, responsive guidance to parents.
