β-Ni(OH)2 flower-like spheres and nanoflakes were synthesized with strong ammonia water as precipitator and nickel nitrate as nickel source by the hydrothermal method. The phase structure and morphologies were analyzed using XRD and SEM. The results showed that under the same conditions of the pH value and the reaction time, the low temperature was propitious to synthesize β-Ni(OH)2 flower-like spheres. High temperature was in favor of the synthesis of β-Ni(OH)2 nanoflakes. Namely, β-Ni(OH)2 flower-like spheres were obtained at 180 °C for 48.0 h with pH=9.0. β-Ni(OH)2 nanoflakes were prepared at 240 °C for 48.0 h with pH=9.0. The formation mechanism was explored through observing influence of the conditions of the hydrothermal method on the morphologies of the samples.

Highly dispersed TiO2 nanotubes (TiO2-NTs) were synthesized via the reaction of anatase TiO2 powder with NaOH solution. Au nanoparticles of about 5 nm were deposited on the surface of TiO2-NTs with hydrothermal reduction method. The prepared nanocomposites were well characterized with TEM and XRD. Their photocatalytic properties and reducing ability were investigated by UV-Vis absorption and photocatalytic reduction of Cd2+ ions with different amount of TiO2-NTs and TiO2-NTs (Au) varying from 0.1g to 0.001g. The results from absorption patterns and AAS showed that the absorption intensity of TiO2-NTs (Au) was higher compared with that of TiO2-NTs. Moreover, the concentration of remanent Cd2+ (0.48mg/L) using TiO2-NTs (Au) was lower than that of Cd2+ (0.65mg/L) using TiO2-NTs.

The glyoxalted polyacrylamide(GPAM) resins were obtained by cross-linking reaction between glyoxal and cationic polyacrylamide(CPAM) through aqueous solution copolymerization. The based CPAM was synthesized with acrylamide(AM) and diallyl dimethyl ammonium chloride(DADMAC) as raw materials by living free radical solution polymerization. Various synthesis conditions were discussed and the optimum conditions for copolymer’s synthesis were as follows: the amount of DADMAC 20%(wt), the charge of the initiator 0.5%(wt), the dosage of chain transfer agent(2-mercaptoethanol) 1.0%(wt), and the charge of crosslinking monomer 9.0%, the dosage of glyoxal 25%(wt), the pH value of the tertiary reaction 7.5-8.0 and the tertiary temperature about 65°C. The structure of the resulting product was characterized by FT-IR, 1H-NMR. Then the GPAM resins were used in the process of paper-making as wet-end additive, the results showed that the paper sheets can get a significant increase in strength properties from the added novel product.

Yb3+, Tm3+ co-doped Gd6MoO12 phosphors were prepared by the hydrothermal method. After tuning the PH value and EDTA, phosphors present different morphologies including hexagonal prisms, spindles, and spheres. Under 980nm excitation, the upconversion luminescence properties of the as-prepared phosphors are studied based on changing the synthesis condition. It is found that usage of EDTA and pH changing both play crucial key in the formation of morphology. Pumping power on the UC luminescence properties and level diagram mechanism of Gd6MoO12:Yb3+/Tm3+phosphor have also been discussed.
